22 Feb 2012 Rick M
Me and my wife stayed for one night with our dog Ben. We were made very welcome by the friendly staff and owners. The room was very clean and comfortable. On the evening we both had fish and chips, which were very nice. The breakfast next morning was also very good, which set us up for our long dog walk ahead. The queen Catherine hotel is a lovely place to stay.

Stayed at the Queen Catherine last night and had a fabulous time. Having read a couple of the earlier reviews we were a little apprehensive but there was no need to be. We arrived in time for Sunday lunch and can highly recommend the garlic mushrooms starter, the sauce is creamy, the mushrooms fresh and succulent and come served with warm crust bread....delicious. Main course was very nice and was great to see that the vegetables had not been boiled away to mush. I was worried that there would not be enough veg from my partner and myself as the portion seemed small but we finished our meal totally satisfied and if more veg was required you just have to ask, great idea as this saves waste. We were so full we did not have a pudding but there were plenty to choose from. We decided not to check in straight away as it was a Sunday and wanted to do a little shopping so we returned at 5 when the pub was quieter. Check in was a pleasant experience and we were escorted to our room (room 3, twin bedded room). If you are wanting to stay in a Boutique Hotel then stay in the city. If you want a cosy country pub hotel then you have come to the right place. The rooms are nothing flash but had everything you need. The beds had the crispest whitest sheets I have ever seen in a hotel, fluffy white towels and the packet of tissues was a nice touch. A wooden box contained a selection of drinks that would rival any 5* hotel. Coffee, capuchino, latte, hot chocolate, fruit tea...fantastic! An added bonus came in the shape of 'The Tees Hot Club'. A blues band that appear at the pub quite regularly on a Sunday evening. 4 guitars, drums, keyboard and to top all that there was also a saxophonist who was just totally awesome!! The lead singer could easily win a Chris Rhea sound-a-like competition. We were made very welcome by the locals and a great night was had by all.
A tasty freshly cooked breakfast was served the next morning by a lovely lady which just rounded off our stay nicely. Thank you everyone for making our stay so great and we hope to make a return trip some time.

Stayed here using a Groupon voucher and found the food excellent quality and staff very friendly. It was lovely to sit round a coal fire with a lovely bottle of wine and enjoy the lovely local company. Bedroom small but bedding, towels etc very clean and plentifull. Lots of tea, coffee, hot chocolate etc to chose from.

Just like to say a big thankyou to Nick and Sandra for a lovley night. Could not fault anything.
The food was fantastic and the drinks very very resonablly priced. Although the rooms are basic ( the owner is aware of this ) they were by far the cleanist we have stayed in for a while bearing in mind some of the 5 star places we have visited. The beds were so comfy, its
just what walkers visiting the area would need after a long hike. The pub itself it so welcoming what with the open fires, and the locals are lovley too. We will be returning again especially after the devine breakfast we had. Once again thanks to all the staff who were so approchable and friendly, oh and hello to sam the dog, youre gorgeous!!!!

Room Tip: we stayed in a twin room, but the owners will put them 2gether to make you a kingsize if you wish

My friend and I have just got back from an overnight stay at The Queen Catherine and were highly delighted with the friendly staff and the superb clean bedroom with the most inticate touch of warmth and homliness. As we were taken to our room you couls smell the cleanliness. The laundry was brilliant white and the towels so fluffy,It's the first time in over five years that I have slept all night without waking up, the beds were total comfort. The twin room we stayed in had an en suite shower / tiolet and a TV, there was a wide selection of hot drinks to chose from in the room and the sunday lunch was delicious. We later enjoed ourselves in the evening and a jazz band entertained us, pure class, thank you so much to everyone who made our overnight stay a memorable one. We will be back again even if it's for the fantastice breakfast. There was nothing we can fault the place for, well, maybe we didn't spend enough time there. We used the Groupon and would highly recommend this to others.
