KOYAO Resort.

>Rate (7/10)
>
>***** Real Thai 5 star standards, private 1.5 hr long tail from Phuket to
>the Island, where you land on a white sand beach and climb out of the boat
>into the water and wade ashore with suitcases...to a beach lined with
>Coconut tree's and up onto a lawned area where the 17 "Villa's and main
>reception - bat - dinning room and massage places are.
>Cannot describe the view looking out to sea from the villa "day room(
>fitted with raised Thai teak lounge beds- but you look towards the Krabi
>coast line and there are stacks of those "james bond type" islands in the
>sea offshore and on the beach we saw turtles/ fish and crystal clear water.
>The Villa has two giant beds raised on teak platforms far apart from one
>another with a divide passage leading to rear of the villa- which opens to
>a walled garden, with his/hers vanity- separate toilet and then in the
>garden with coconut tree's an under the sun/ stars shower. The units have
>their own fully stocked refrigerator mini bar...and TV-DVD players are
>supplied free of charge if required but must be requested, as not fitted as
>norm.
>The boundary walls of the villa are "roll up bamboo shutters" that are
>dropped at night if required and the beds are covered with Mosquito
>nets-and portable fan units supplied- but no A/C.
>
>The staff are Moslem Thai- and all very helpful in every way, there is a
>fully stocked beach equipment store, wind surfers, volley ball , snorkel
>equipment and so on...all in good condition-even couple fishing rods.. The
>main interest to the families whilst we were there were the residents cats
>and kitten and the large lizard that resides below the bar deck!!but one
>can join tours arranged by resort or take boat trips to niebouring islands
>We arranged to hire motor bikes at 250 BHT a day inclusive of all, and
>toured the island( fishing villages- rubber plantation mountain villages
>and saw some of the indigenous bush animals and lots of birds up to raptor
>size.
>
>This resort-is a Robinson Crusoe experience in style!! and the entire
>resort is beautifully laid out and designed such that there are not to many
>people- and no villa is close to another-overlooks one another, and its an
>ideal honeymoon place -with very good massage staff, to pamper you daily-
>but as the massage is exclusive an bit expensive. Due to the humid sea air-
>lack of A/C in the Villa's Europeans used to luxury could only stay max 5
>days and other's who were used to humidity- damp evening sea air in the
>bedding/ clothes would revel in the resort, and could stay weeks-after
>which one never would want to leave-its a "forget the rest of the world
>exists" kind of place-just what anyone who understands stress management in
>the modern "industrila-IT" world needs at the end of a year to charge
>batteries and smell the air....and to decide to be able to go back into the
>fray for another yearly bout before finding another Kayao Island
>resort...or returning!
>
>The meals are very good European and Thai mix, the breakfast are reasonable
>but could do with a greater choice, again the staff go out their way to
>give you the best service- and there were two social evening's organized
>over the week but people who seek such a hideaway..dont really go to
>socialize , one was barbeque with some of the best sea food to satisfy any
>gourmet- supplemented on request by meat and the other was a "drinks on the
>house" get to-gether with staff and fellow guests .
>
>Generally every thing is very well maintained and organized, although the
>reception-admin area leaves a lot to be desired in respect to organized
>layout, with lots of paper, old office equipment laying about- this is the
>most disorganized unsightly area of the entire resort which is surprising
>as the resort seems to be over the "top" with management.
>
>The resort offer a flexible package which allows one to get a discount on
>the accommodation, which proved to be good value for money and discounts
>all children's meals under 18-they do not accept American express.
All the staff went out of thier way to make my 5 person family holiday a success-especially my son and Daughter in law who slept at night in a bed strewn with flowers- My young daughter like the other children could not get enough of the resident cats and Kittens..
Comparing to the previous resort"Rocky Resort" Koh Samui, which was over rated- Koyao will see us again.
