“private beach lodge”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

we stayed 4 nights in private beach lodge, its separate from the resort but they arrange a tuk-tuk to take you to and from the resort and will get room service delivered to the lodge if you want it. private beach with a beautiful view. you can hire scooters to drive round the island which they will also bring to the lodge. the roads a bit bumpy down to the lodge but nothing to complain about- its all very natural so if you want hot water and scared of insects maybe the resort is the better choice
overall completely BRILLIANT! our host mhee was amazing- I would request her again definitely. everything perfect. highly recommended.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of our Private Beach Lodge. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay in our Private Beach Lodge. We are very fortunate to be able to offer this type of remote accommodation which offers absolute privacy, but still has the services and facilities the Resort supports.

Thank you also for your kind comments about Mhee which I will certainly share with her.

Best regards

We stayed for 4 nights, biggest regret was that we were not there for longer. The views are stunning, the hotel simple and beautifully presented. The manager Regina and Tom were wonderful warm hosts. Lovely lovely lovely !

Only one criticism, we were in room 18, there really is no view other than the entrance to hotel and also close too and overlooking the area where staff prepare food ... V noisy at 7am, not exactly what I wished for. Avoid this room, and all will be great.

Dear Reviewer

Thank you very much for taking the time to share this review and thank you also for the very kind words about Tom and I. It was a pleasure having you here as guests.

I am sorry that you were desturbed by the early morning team, which is something we do remind our occasionally over enthusiastic team about in a regular basis. We hope to improve this in the futue.

My Wife and I travelled to the Koyao Island resort for our Honey Moon, 22nd September to the 5th of October 2012 we stayed in a Beach Villa Room 13. Our Holiday begun with some Monsoon rains and although this went on for about 3 days Regina and all her staff made sure we had an amazing time, the rest of our stay was great weather. The Beautiful Beach Villa was spacious and well thought out, I believe we were staying in one of the newly refurbished beach villas and I certainly miss the sound of the waves sending me off to sleep at night.

The resort is in an excellent location on the Island with local restaurants only a few minutes walk away, I would definitely recommend Changs Thai restaurant as well as La Luna Pizzeria which did amazing pizza. The Hotel food was good but inconsistent at times and the menu was a bit limited but our favourite meal was our Candle lit dinner for two by the beach and the seafood was amazing, definitely something everyone should do during a stay at Koyao Island resort.

The Island is not your usual Tourist area and that is why we booked this resort, the locals are very friendly and on one occasion when caught out in the rain on a moped a local came out from her house to invite us in.

The resort organised cocktail parties on the beach and James Bond evenings which were good fun and enabled you to gain a few friends.

For those who enjoy fishing their are plenty of fish to be caught close to shore drifting in the Kayaks over the numerous reefs.

The Resort definitely could do with upgrading some of the bikes and kayaks although I believe they are in the process of doing this. Apart from that I couldn't fault the resort or staff and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing holiday in an Idyllic setting, just make sure you book a long enough stay as you wont want to go home.

Thanks once again to Regina and Tom and the rest of the staff who were excellent and made our Honey Moon very memorable.

Room Tip: Room 13 was excellent

Thank you very much for sharing your experience and we are delighted to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. I would also like to thank you for the kind comments about Tom and I as well as the rest of the team.

I am glad you enjoyed the cocktail party on the beach and James Bond night, which is something we still do. In th meantime we have also upgraded some more villas, maintained the bicycles and employed a new head chef. We are constantly working on improving both service and facilities and feel we have achieved a lot of good things. Hopefully we are able to welcome you in the not so distant future for you to experience the improvements

When you have jet lag and you just want to drop your bags and chill, well this is the answer. After being a single traveller and being nervous about my first trip to Thailand, look no further! Stunning views, beautiful rooms and fab staff. Regina, the new manager and Tom her deputy can only but say they are fab. Tonight we had a cocktail party on the beach. We all mingled and let lots of lanterns into the sunset. Thank you to all the lovely staff fo making my first trip to Thailand so memorable.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience at our Resort. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed it and it was a pleasure to have you here.

We always find that a Guest Cocktail party on the beach is a good opportunity for guests to learn to know each other, especially for solo travellers, and joining in to send the lanterns in the sky is always a bit special. Am so glad you enjoyed it.

We hope to welcome you back in the near future

Thanks for all the reviews that helped us choose this resort.

We stayed 5 nights with our two teenage sons and have really enjoyed our time. It rained cats and dogs for the first couple of days and then we got paradise for the last day or two. Even with the rain though we decided (as is our family policy) to have fun and we did. We went kayaking, bike riding, beach walking, mini crab hunting at night, and sometimes enjoyed the rhythmic and mesmerizing sounds of the waves and rain in symphonic harmony. When it got too much jungle Jim for our teenage urbanites they found solace in the free wi-fi at the bar.

We rented scooters and explored the island which was nice but realised that the resort is easily on the best part of the island anyway. The best thing about this island is that it is not based on tourism and the vast majority of locals just do their thing with the odd tourist weaving in and out around local life. We loved that about Koh Yao Noi. To enjoy that though, don't come here expecting the height of Thai service common in more tourist orientated areas of the country. A small sacrifice in my opinion as what you lose in service you more than gain in beauty and an authentic Thai muslim island.

The family beach villa we stayed in at the resort was great, the ambience very "troppo" and supremely relaxing. The food is good, albeit inconsistent at times, as are the cocktails. The facilities need a little attention like the kayaks and bikes but these are apparently in the process of being improved. We enjoyed them anyway.

The staff get better as your stay unfolds and they get to recognise you which we felt equated to confidence as the resort admirably employs mainly locals on a non-tourist orientated Island. It's a great policy in our opinion and a credit to management for doing so. The management is clearly patient in their approach to training local people in the hospitality industry. It must be frustrating at times I guess. We grew to appreciate and admire both the staff and management.

All in all a fabulous place with warm and attentive management and with service a work in progress. Beautiful setting, great relaxed atmosphere, and definitely worth a week of one's holiday itinerary. Just remember though that this is a niche type resort (open walls etc...) on a non tourist island with locals not that interested in turning it into another Phuket. That is what brought us to Koyao Resort and will bring us back time and again if it preserves its special feel. It may not however be appealing to others in the way it has been to us.

Thanks to Tom, Regina, and the Staff (especially Sorn) for a much needed break in such a divine place of rest.

PS  Villa 9 is a great family villa close to the facilities and the beach.

from the moment we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome and the view from koyao is breathtaking, especially from the infinity pool! Tom and all the wonderful staff were always full of smiles and were incredibly kind, nothing was too much trouble. the resort has kayaks and bikes that are free to use making exploration of the island very easy. we stayed in a bungalow with indoor/outdoor living. there is so much space around it felt very private. we spent a lot of time sat in our open living room looking out at the view, absolute paradise. the complimentary afternoon tea and snacks helped add to the family atmosphere. the restaurant served delicious thai and western food and there is also a good cocktail menu in the bar. although we were very sad to go we also had one of the smoothest and most relaxing check-outs we have ever experienced, everything was organised for us without us having to ask. thank you koyao, we'll be back as soon as we can!

Fantastic stay - our room was simply heavenly with incredible views of the beach. Highly recommend hiring a scooter and driving around the island, or using one of the free kayaks at the resort to paddle out into the endless blue! Meant to be rainy season when we went but barely trickled once.

Essentially have your own private beach, the water is always warm! An infinity pool to spend time relaxing and a bar to enjoy a few cheap cocktails. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly - on one day a soccer game was organised in which all the staff and the majority of guests joined in, fabulously uniting experience - and this was in off-season! Might be better to lodge in the on-season as their appears to be more activities held every night.

Only negative were the prices of the food and excursions - if you do a little research you can find much cheaper options around the island (snorkelling and kayaking tours, restaurants and massages). Also the price of hiring a taxi compared to hiring a scooter for the entire day is incomparable - if you have little experience with one don't worry, their easier than riding a push bike.

Also while off-season can be much cheaper, the island is almost asleep! Most of the restaurants we wanted to visit were closed so you may have to consider going when it's high season.
