Sick of hotel "coffee" ??? That vile stuff made with UHT milk? We give up on coffee in Thailand or Bali - usually.... However, while exploring the village markets on the "untouristy" Koh Yao Noi (accessed by long boat from Phang Nga) on leisure time with the wonderful Amazing Bike Tours; lo and behold, we espied a coffee shop, Thai/Western style - and hurrah!! we could've been in one of our local Fremantle cafe's, They have the machine, they have the beans, and it would seem, fresh milk, because there is not that UHT taste - its all wonderful. Coffee is the one exception we make to our rule of always eating local foods when we travel - but it is very hard to get a good coffee in Asia. And while you sup your fantastic coffee at Cafe De Iyara, you can read the Thai equivalent of Better Homes and Gardens or Style magazine; or watch the world go by to use the ATM over the road (we were entranced to watch the same monk use the ATM five times or so within the half hour we were in the coffee shop) - indecision about how much to take out?. The only negative is perhaps the woman who serves the coffee, who was, by Thai standards, a bit unfriendly and sour - perhaps she was having a bad day or it was a language thing. Nice decor, and you have to take your shoes off when you go inside. Also available there, free WiFi.
