“Watamu stay April 2013”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

We stayed at this hotel during the end of April for one week. We have travelled extensivley in Africa and knew what sort of service to expect from a hotel of this standard. The staff did not let the hotel down, they were polite couteous and helpful at all times even though we stayed at the end of the season.when they must all of been looking forward to the hotel closing for a few weeks! The hotel itself is very tired looking and could do with a lick of paint. The rooms were comfortable but also need updating, the bathroom was dull and a little dirty. The food was average but plenty of variety on offer. The entertainment in the evenings was good and on the whole the hotel setting is very beautiful. The beach boys can get on your nerves trying to sell all the time, but of course they do need to make a living. If you ask them to leave you alone they they will do so. We organised a safari with Nemo who saved us £350 on the tour operators price each, and all went like clockwork. We stayed at Treetops in the Masai Mara, lots of beautiful animals but have stayed in nicer places. The Masai Mara is beautful and well worth the trip.
The reason that we took a three day safari while only on holiday for 1 week was to get away from the dire English people staying at the hotel, most of whom had stayed there umpteen times before and what they didnt know about what you should and shouldnt do wasnt worth knowing! Very clicky!
I would say that this isn`t a young couples hotel more a family and middle aged couples place.
We wouldnt go back but did however enjoy our stay.

Room Tip: Beach rooms have a lovely view and you can step out of the door straight onto the beach

My fiancée and I chose Turtle Bay as the venue for our wedding, partly because we love the place and also our family and friends could book a package holiday from the UK to come and join us for the celebrations.
Although the hotel has been there for a long time now and the building is getting on a tad the standards are absolutely fantastic, it is testimony to the dedication of the management team and the staff who all work hard to make sure that your stay is memorable for all the right reasons.
The wedding was planned to perfection and everyone involved took pride in making sure all went well, which it did, a big thank you to Nancy the event planner who was brilliant.
The whole group had a wonderful time for the whole of the stay, comfortable and clean accommodation, very good food throughout, fantastic staff, great pools and amenities and patient security staff who had to put up with the midnight swimming antics of a couple of our more wayward 18-30s children.
Big thank you to Damian and the team for a good job well done, we will see you again in June.

Lots of great reviews for this hotel so really looking forward to a lovely relaxing holiday which on the whole we had. There were 3 of us sharing a club room which was perfectly adequate. The hotel is rather dated i feel and lacks atmosphere, but its very clean and comfortable. We were at the hotel a couple of weeks before it was due to close for the season and it was very quiet, we asked for a little background music to be put on at the bar and pizza restaurant in the evening but they couldn't accommodate this. Not the hotel's fault, but a big minus for this hotel was the fact that you couldnt step foot on the beach without hassle from guys trying to sell you trips and tours - and they seriously dont leave you alone - they line up looking for holidaymakers to step on the beach and pounce like sharks. Even when you went on an escorted walk with the hotel staff you were guaranteed that they would escort and try and sell every step of the way (this i think the hotel could arrange better). The food was buffet style and tasty enough, but certainly not wow. We tried the Blue Turtle restaurant which you paid for on our last day and it wasnt really worth the extra money. On the whole a nice but not exceptional hotel

My partner and I have just returned from the Turtle Beach hotel, my partner had been several times in the past but it was my first visit. We were looking for a nice relaxing week in the sun and I have to say it ticked all our boxes, I'm not sure where the three stars come from as we both felt it should easily be a four star and we have stayed in five star hotels that were not as nice.
Firstly the people, I cannot recall any other hotel where the staff were so friendly and helpful, the waiters asked our names on the first day and never forgot them or what we liked to drink. The food here is just amazing, admittedly the hotel was quiet as it is their low season but never the less most of the food is cooked fresh by the chefs at the grills and they obviously love what they do, the daal curry and freshly made naans are to die for, and the chateaubriand was just delicious, we never tired of the quality or options of food available and thought the fresh pancakes served at 4 pm every afternoon were lovely.
Please ignore previous comments about the clientele being elderly or entertaining visitors, whilst we were there the guests were mixed, some families and couples and even a group for sole travellers. There are some older couples as many people who have found this hotel do return, but don't be put off by this because the service is still great for first timers.
We had a room in the main block close to reception with a sea view and found it had everything we needed, I cannot comment on the upgraded rooms as we never looked at them.
The entertainment was a really good mix of local dancers and live music, although we were happy to sit on the bar terrace where there was a bit of sea breeze and just enjoy the ambience of looking at the Ocean an occasionally seeing a beach crab wander onto the terrace.
All in all we had a fabulous week and think this hotel fits the bill for most travellers, despite the fact that we like to try different places, would we return, you bet we would.

Popular resort in Watamu primarily because of kid friendliness. The grounds and pool are very nice though rooms are a bit dated. This is a great place to stay if looking for all inclusive never leave the resort, because of the lengthy list of organized activities every day from 10am to midnight. A little cheaper than Hemmingway's (for foreigners, resident rates are about the same) but not as nice rooms.

My wife and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday here. We had a fabulous time at this resort. it punches way above it's rating. The hotel was well laid out, clean, tidy although some aspects of the accommodation could be renovated this did not detract from our stay here. The food and drink was first rate. An adult only pool and pool area was a great bonus. The location is very good and the hotel has a great beach.

The very big plus for the resort is the tremendous staff employed here, could not fault them at all, they were all very cheerful and helpful. Arguably the best staff we have ever encountered in our travels around the world.

Well done to the manager and all the staff in the first class running of this resort.

I went with my family that was visiting from out of town, including my 7 year old nephew and we had an absolute ball. The food was great, the location is stunning and the staff was so helpful and friendly. They ran activities everyday and my family loved it (water aerobics for mom and games for my nephew). The hotel is also right on the beach so it was easy to take a dip in the ocean. We were even able to see eels and other creatures in the tidepools just outside the hotel when the tide was low.
