Just returned from an amazing two week holiday at TBBC. Do not be put off by the comments about returning guests, the general atmosphere at TBBC is that whether you are new or returning you are part of a family.
Beach beds are reserved but I moved around the beach and didn't get comments or stares as mentioned by a previous reviewer. The food in the restaurant is varied for Kenya - you won't get the same variety as Mexico. I always found something really good to eat and there is always the pizza restaurant when you fancy a change. The staff really make this hotel special, they are friendly, smiling and always ready to make your holiday amazing. James at the Weaver bar, Samson in the pizza restaurant, there are too many great people to mention.
I've dived all over the world and the dive staff are the best I've come across with their care and attention to detail again they can't do enough for you. Visibility wasn't brilliant but the fish life was varied and the corals were good.
One final point try and head to Watamu its a short walk down the beach once there look out for a small Italian ice cream shop which sells every variety of ice cream there is and well worth a visit.
I booked the safari through Thompsons although I do think that if you book through the beach boys or in the village you will be OK. Our rep Victor couldn't do enough for us and the tented safari was just what we were looking for especially as there were no fences and during the night we had an elephant straight outside the tent.
All in all a great holiday and I can't wait to go back.

We stayed here from 14-28th Dec 2012.
Hotel is lovely, facilities are good and the rooms are clean and tidy. The biggest asset are the staff, they are so friendly and happy and really make you feel welcome. We would return back if only to see some friendly faces again (Alex in the restaurant, Ratibu, Khamish, Michael, Harrah...)

We would have loved a fridge in our room (to soothe the sunburn!) but this is just us being picky. The food is nice although a little restrictive for vegetarians in terms of variety.

The hotel try their best to make it an enjoyable holiday.
We were happy with our stay here.

Room Tip: Rooms around the adult pool are quieter than near Reception/main pool. The main pool is where the night entertainment and disco happens until midnight. And be careful of the crabs coming up from the beach!

What a friendly hotel - after our wonderful safari we needed a few days rest. The staff are amazing, food good, the beach is fabulous- snorkelling and dolphin watching, I love the environmental link to La Roche and the community action. I would love to return.

Room Tip: block A was right next to the beach

This was our first time at Turtle Bay Beach. The welcome drink when we arrived was much apppreciated on a very hot day. The air condition in the rooms was also very welcoming and a lot cooler than outside. All the staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, they were fantastic. The food was good and plentiful, to be honest you were spoilt for choice of what to have. There are 3 swimming pools, 1 for children, 1 for families and 1 for adults, several bars and restaurants with just a short walk to the beach. If you are not one for lying around on a sun lounger every day then get out and explore and take a trip on a Dhow with food and drink included in the price, it is fantasic, we had a brilliant time on our trip.

We look forward to going back again.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at TBBC and spent 3 days during the stay on safari.

Main resort - we felt that the layout of the resort was good and the grounds were well maintained.

Rooms - we stayed in oceanfront rooms which were advertised as recently renovated. We did not feel this was the case.. Accommodation overall is basic which is fine because let's face it you aren't there to stay in your room all day.

Beach - a plus for the resort is that there is a private beach that leads onto the public beach. This prevents the beach boys hassling you all day long as they are not allowed access to the private beach.

Sunbeds - well, where do I start ! We were completely and utterly embarrassed by the behaviour of individuals , mainly returners, regarding sunbeds ! Firstly , there are plenty of sunbeds and the hotel has a clear policy that they cannot be reserved yet people leave items on the beds at night and early morning ( we are talking 6am,) in order to reserve them. On our first full day we went out fairly early( to use not reserve beds) and both us and our friends used sunbeds outside the oceanfront rooms that did not have any items on them...........the commotion this caused was unbelievable and more to the point were we're embarrassed by the behaviour (loud comments etc) of the British guests that had 'lost' their sunbeds and the other guests joined in the 'loud comments' and 'dirty looks'! This then resulted in beds being reserved and people being up extra early to make see they didn't lose them the next day! We were in Kenya not Spain !!! We can't be doing with behaviour like that so moved to another area the beach . Through talking to others this was not the only 'incident' and there was a general feeling the returners thought they were above all the rules .

Restaurant - food was ok, nothing special and not very varied. The salads and rolls were put out well in advance of the evening meal which concerned us as it meant flies were all over it. We stopped eating it once we realised and stuck to the hot food that was covered. We ate in the pizza restaurant and blue turtle both of which were good and a nice change to the main restaurant.

Service - in general the staff cannot do enough for you however restaurant service for drinks was very slow on most days.

Pools- 2 pools both of which are good and well maintained. The first week there were a few families with children so the main pool was in use quite a bit but once they had gone the main pool was fairly quiet. The adult pool is very quiet but had the same issue with people 'reserving sunbeds'.

People are clearly attracted to this resort given the large number of returners who have been going back for years and years - just observing whilst we were there we would put the average age of the majority of guests at 60yrs plus - clearly no issue with that but it does impact on the feel and experience of the resort. Very few younger couples.

Overall we would rate the holiday as average in terms of the accommodation and overall experience (excluding the safari which was fabulous).. It won't stand out as a holiday for us and we won't become returners. We have returned to other resorts before but this one just did not have anything special that would draw us back and to be honest the behaviour we witnessed was just embarrassing.
