Im a bit late writing this review.

We returned for our 3rd visit to Turtle Bay at the end of August 2011. We were greeted like family coming home once again. The Staff were genuinely pleased to see us.

We were shown to our Room straight away. We were in an Ocean View Room with a beautiful view. We normally have a Lamu Room but were over the moon with this upgrade. The room was beach front with air conditioning and a ceiling fan. Double bed and single bed, lots of wardrobe space, tea and coffee facilities, separate bath and shower , hair dryer, shampoo and shower gel, mosquito net and safe all provided. The only thing that concerned us was that it was close to the children’s play area, but once our door was shut all we could hear was the sea not that the children were noisy…..Every morning there was a beautiful sunrise to see, well worth getting up at 6.30am and having a stroll along the beach.

We went out and about as usual around Watamu Village and visited a few of the local Schools. We took with us plenty of pens and pencils and about 14 school dresses. We did also visit a well-known Orphanage ( I wont name it ) but we didn’t offer any form of help or support due to the amount the children had there. It was very well run but our main concern was how will the children cope when they leave there at 18, they may have some money in their pockets but they won’t have the life they had at the Orphanage, play stations, laptops, pcs, flat screen TVs, nice bedrooms, food, water , lovely clothes etc… I could go on about this but I won’t.

We did another Safari with the main man Abdul of Tunda Tours. There had been a problem with our Safari the previous year and Abdul kept to his promise and looked after us very well. We did a 5 night Safari staying at different Lodges. Little Gouvenours, IL Moran, and Mara Intrepid’s. I shall write separate reviews for these Lodges. We had a fantastic time.
The food at the Hotel was up to its normal excellent standard, always something for everyone and very tasty to. We were celebrating our Wedding Anniversary and were given a fantastic meal at The Blue Turtle and treated as if we were the only couple in there and looked after very well by all the staff. We enjoyed it so much we booked another meal for our 2nd week and once again were treated very well.

Well there’s not much more I can say really as I have said it in my previous review's for Turtle Bay, but if you are thinking of going then do it you won’t regret it.

Only downside was that the Pole Pole Bar over the road was closed for refurbishment…!!!

See you next year Turtle Bay....Mick & Jackie

Room Tip: Lamu Rooms by the quiet pool and Ocean Front Rooms are great

After a 3 hour transfer we arrived to a lovely welcome by the wonderful staff at Turtle Bay. The check in was extremely quick and we were then shown to our club room. What a surprise we had when we opened the door, the room is far better than the pictures show! There was a 6 foot double bed and a single bed, a balcony view to die for and bathroom, boasting full bath and separate shower.Air con that worked throughout our 2 week stay and constant hot water. Our room attendant cleaned our room each morning and we never managed to see him in the room. The pools are lovely we swam in both the main pool and the quiet pool although our sunbathing was always done on the beautiful sandy beach.
The entertainments team invite people on beach walks and we did do 2 of these both lovely walks. There is aqua aerobics every morning at 11am, this is when the music goes on and as soon as the activity is over so the music goes off. So peaceful. Beach games are another activity again we did enter into the spirit of thing twice. We mentioned to one of the entertainment team that we had bought over some pens and pencils and it was arranged that Rama would take us to the local school, stopping on the way to buy up all the excercise booksin the local shops. The childrens welcome was tear jerking all wanting to shake hands and they they sang to welcome us. Miss Adelaide the headteacher showed us around the classrooms and got the teachers to show some of the childrens work. Thank you to Rama for taking the time for us to experience the wonderful work of the school.
On our last afternoon 6 of us decided to go on the Dhow Sunset Cruise, this is definately a must do, it is organised by the hotel and food and drinks are plentiful. This was a wonderful end to the most perfect holiday I have ever had.
A huge thank you to all the lovely staff, without you the hotel wouldn't function, and a special thanks to Damien the manager who apologised for being away from the hotel in Nairobi when we arrived.I have left my heart at the Turtle Bay Beach Club and now know why there are so many repeat visitors returning to there second home TBBC.

30 minutes drive from Malindi in Watamu lies turtle bay beach resort. The hotel is huge and is a great holiday destination for tourists of all ages and from all over the world. Rooms range from ocean front rooms to garden rooms, Lamu blocks and finally club rooms. Being an official visit for me I stayed in a club room on full board basis. Full board means all meals and local drinks inclusive from 3 of the restaurants at the resort. The welcome was great, escort to the large rooms was good too. Rooms have large mirrors, king size bed and hot and cold shower throughout the day. Sadly, no tv :-( Air conditioning in the rooms makes the coastal heat bearable. Dinner service was enjoyable as other than a variety of food and drinks there is entertainment every evening. Staff are friendly and always ready to assist. Wireless Internet service is available at a fee.
Watch out for....Creepy crawlers like crabs. We encountered a crab in the pool at night and another on the corridor to our club rooms.....No picking phone calls at the buffet restaurant area during meals - part of the dress code
The resort offers different forms of entertainment every night at the restaurant by the pool site. We enjoyed, acrobats on one night and the Heritage band at the cocktail party night where we were introduced to most of the staff members.
Pool - great. Umbrellas are not enough for all guests though
Security of personal items in the room - totally secure. I left my wallet, phone and camera in the room and found them intact after the room was cleaned
Check out - flexible check out time based on reservations which was just super for us. We checked out at 2.30pm!

We have been in there for one week - family of four with kids aged 7 and 11. Absolutely one of the best holidays we ever had. From the beginning staff could't be more helpful with everything. We went for safari for 2 days, but that was not organised by the hotel (a part of package booked in UK). Unfortunately we didn't know at what time is the pickup from the hotel. Reception staff found out everything for us without any problems. As for the cleanliness rooms ware cleaned on everyday basis. We ware accommodated in Club rooms and they ware very good. Our rooms ware located in the building right off main hall and reception area. It was close to the restaurant and the pool area. The whole resort is very quiet and children friendly - lots of activities for kids and our younger son just loved it. There is also very good diving centre located just off the beach. It is ran by Swiss couple - and you can tell that. Everything works like swiss watch :)

It would be very difficult to find anything, that was wrong or even unpleasant. All those reviews about stall looking after mainly retired returners was completely not true. If you want to be picky, you can moan about the beach - first of all there is a bit of seaweed lying on the beach and also there is lots of local people trying to sell you their products. That includes local wooden and stone sculptures and other staff. Since they are not allowed to enter the resort area they wonder around the beach. There are 4 o 5 huts build on scrap wood and called with funny names "HARODS", "ARGOS", "DEBENHAMS" etc. Once you enter the beach you are approached by them and asked to come and buy something from them. However they are not aggressive or rude - on a contrary, they are very friendly. I suppose that is the only way for them to earn some some for living. If you want to buy something you MUST haggle. The starting price is about twice as much or more as he really wants to get.

I a summary we ware delighted with the holiday and we will do everything to come back. And I can tell you - we will be not the only ones. People we met are coming there many times - some even 10 - 15 times. In theory it is 3 stars resort - I have to say that I've seen many 4 stars ones that ware far less enjoyable.

Room Tip: We spent our time in the club rooms and ware happy with it - at the end you will not spend much time...

5 of us including two children went to Turtle Bay from 12th Feb to 20th Feb it is a job to describe hotel it is it is not possible to give a star rating in a british sense, but staying there is a five star holiday, boats, pedalows, scuba diving, childrens club etc you name it it is there, two pools one quite one. I see some people appear to believe so called returners get best service, thinking this might be true I spoke to two couples who seemed to know the manager thinking that they were returners both couples were there for the first time but stated they would be back. It was a very good holiday. Children liked the on demand snacks and pancakes. No worries over security.

Room Tip: Ask for connecting rooms if you have children. If you like very quiet area go for rooms around quie...
