Stayed here the last two weeks of october, To celebrate our 30th Wedding anniversary and our 50th Birthdays and have to say TBBC pulled out all the stops to make this a holiday to remember.
Firstly we were given a free room upgrade from a ocean front room to a sea view suite which takes up the whole top floor of one of the Lamu blocks with fantastic views over the quiet pool and the sea.
Room was frequently replenished with fresh fruit and flowers and bottles of champagne. To further our celebrations we were also treated to breakfast in bed and a meal in there fantastic Blue Turtle restaurant with La carte menu.
The staff at the TBBC are as good as you would find in any 5 star Hotel and are always cheerfull and helpfull from cleaners and groundsmen to front of house staff you will not find a better team.
All restaurants are of good quality with plenty of choices to be made.
serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, dinner, and supper.
All in all this is a fantastic hotel where you will feel safe and at home.
During our stay we did a Two night Three day safari with Tunda Tours
which is a local company run by Abdul who is no stranger to TBBC as he has many excellent reviews from previous guests of TBBC.
Please read my separate review under Tunda Tours about safari this is a must if planning a safari!
Finally a Big Big Thank You To All Management and Staff at the TBBC for a Holiday and Memorys that will last for years to come.

We spent 2 weeks at the TBBC during October / November 2011. This was our first visit to TBBC and to Kenya and if we’re honest the first couple of days we weren’t too sure about the place! We liked it, but we didn’t love it.

As a few others have said, the first couple of days we did feel as though we were treated differently to the repeaters. For example, we were the last to be served with drinks on a few occasions, and one evening, we were told that we couldn’t sit at a particular table as it was reserved for some repeaters. Once a couple of days had gone by and we’d started chatting to the waiters and staff, it was completely different and they couldn’t do enough for us. I think the moral of the story is to get involved and get speaking to the staff. They were all fantastic and a real credit to the hotel.

Our room was a super club room on the 2nd floor in the main block overlooking the main pool. The room was very clean when we arrived which continued throughout our stay and although quite basic, it didn’t really bother us as we don’t really spend much time in the room on holiday. Although it didn’t bother us, you do hear the disco in this block which goes on most nights until about midnight.

A slight niggle was the air conditioning. We didn’t have a remote control and so it was operated by the room key in a slot by the door. Because there was no remote, you couldn’t alter the ferocity of the air which seemed to be set at maximum. This was a bit of a problem as you needed it on in order to get to sleep, but within about 20 minutes, the room was like an ice box and you have to get out of bed to turn it off. We did request a remote control but unfortunately it didn’t materialise.

On the whole we ate in the main restaurant which we didn’t have any problems with whatsoever. The choice of food was fairly limited, but there was always something we could try. It was all perfectly cooked and extremely tasty. The staff were excellent, attentive and friendly. One of the best places we’ve visited all inclusive food wise. We also ate in the Pizza Garden a few times and a couple of times in the Blue Turtle a la carte restaurant. In both places, the food was absolutely superb and the service was nothing short of incredible. We just wish the Pizza Garden could open a branch where we live!

We took part in a few of the activities whilst we were there – darts, beach walks, beach games, table tennis and water polo, water polo, water polo ! The fun base team are brilliant – and do exactly what it says on the tin. Mike and his 'snake hips', George and his legendary laugh, Mambo Jambo and his 'water polo, water polo, water polo' and all the others, thank you for helping to make our holiday so fantastic and memorable.

We booked a safari with Abdul of Tunda Tours before we left. We had a 2 night, 3 day safari to the Royal Mara in the Masai Mara. I’ll do a separate review about both Abdul and the Royal Mara, suffice to say, incredible.

On our last morning Philip ‘Mambo Jambo’ from the fun base team took us to the school academy in Timboni. A tiny little school with two classrooms and in excess of 50 children with the most beaming happy faces that I have ever seen. We’d taken some pencils and bits and pieces, and they were so grateful to us.

We did have a few little issues with the Beach Boys. We did find it difficult to have a quiet walk along the beach without being surrounded and offered safaris, trips, trinkets etc. Firmness just didn’t work at first I’m afraid and they seemed to hone in on the fact that it was our first visit to Kenya. They all have nicknames and we did befriend a guy called Alexander the Great. He was great and it helped us to realise the reason why they were there. Next time we’ll we'll know how to deal with them.

I can honestly say that this holiday has been a true experience and at the risk of sounding corny, life changing. We think we’ve got problems, they are nothing compared to what these people have to contend with on a daily basis. We can’t wait to return and we’re already planning our next trip – 3 weeks next November !

I spent four days here after a three night safari. It was a lovely spot to relax in. Check-in was simple and efficient and I was quickly shown my room. A Lamu room overlooking the quiet pool and with a sea view beyond. Unfortunately it was raining extremely hard when we arrived so I had to wait to explore. My room was clean with lovely white sheets and plenty of clean white towels. There was a flask of cold drinking water provided and several water stations about the resort where it could be refilled. The main restaurant overlooks the large pool and the food is buffet service. There was always plently of choice and chefs cooking so food was always hot. Eggs at breakfast are cooked to order and nothing seemed too much trouble.
The staff are very friendly and always speak (Jambo) and are always smiling. The security is also excellent.
Asante sana Turtle Bay for a wonderful time

Room Tip: Lamu rooms overlooking the quiet pool provide easy access to the main restaurant, entertainment area...

We arrived during a heat wave in off season, were so grateful to leave Lamu that everywhere looked good. Staff is not the most endearing but there are a few who tow the line for everyone. Fun place for family with children, lots of activities in the pool and along the beach. Food was abundant and varied, evening performances and late night dancing, a basic, good retreat.

Rooms leave something to be desired but are clean and full of light. Our fan made the most horrible noise and the air conditioner could not be regulated, alas, it was all about finding reourcesfulness.

My travel companion would return. I would seek other options.
Fair value for the offerings.

Room Tip: Face the sea, get as lose as you can for the evening breezes, they are divine!

We have just returned back from TBBC what a disappointment, when we arrived we had to wait over an hour for our room, we were finally given a garden room which was a double this was no good as I was travelling with my mother, another 30 minutes wait, before we were taken to one a the sea view rooms.
The room was dirty, and in poor condition.
The next day we attended the welcome meeting, the Thomas Cook rep spent 10 minutes telling us it was ok to go out and if we wanted to go on a trip see the guys on the beach, he also said he would be in the hotel at 10am every morning, we never saw him again, the reception had to phone him the day before our flights home as no one had a clue what time we were being picked up for the airport.
Please be warned it is not safe to go outside, 2 people from England visited the local school just outside the hotel and were mugged.
I also had my money stolen on the last day, I went to the reception to pay my bill put my bag on the table looked in the shop window behind me and within seconds my purse was gone, there was no one else in reception but the staff. when I complained I was just dismissed.
