We stayed at Turtle Bay for 3 weeks in October 2011, lets get this straight from the start, there is NOTHING! to moan about. The staff and people who run this hotel are amazing!,from the general manager to the most humble cleaner, nothing is too much trouble, you are amongst genuine friends from the outset. We stayed in Lamu rooms, overlooking the"quiet pool" A big shout to ROY our room boy, cheers mate you are a diamond!.If you want decent drinks have a word with WENDO head barman, tell him Steve sent you!,have a Tusker for me mate!.The waiters really looked after us especially- JOTHAN(THE WEATHERMAN),RATIBU(AKA-EDDIE MURPHY!),KHAMISH(IN DA HOUSE!),ROY(BABYFACE!),KADENGE(MOTORCYCLE STUNTMAN),you guys are brilliant,We cant thank you enough.Right, the food-whats not to like?decent tucker, enough choices to suit,if you dont fancy anything on offer give BIG ALEX(-the chef) a nod he will soon rustle something up for you! or go and see SAMSON in the pizza place, minestrone soup to die for!! and a decent spag bol.The funbase guys will keep you amused, check out the maddest games of water polo you have ever seen!!PHILLIP the head guy is definitely in touch with his feminine side!!.and MICHAEL will spin some wicked choons given half a chance.Safari-3days 2 nights, Tsavo and Amboseli booked through KINGI,stayed at VOI LODGE and MOUNT KIBO SAFARI LODGE,the latter has outstanding views of Kilimanjaro and is an amazing place to stay,it just blew us away, long drive back to TBBC but well worth it.The beach boys are a decent set of guys just trying to earn a living-dont be scared!they are very well informed and will look after you,go for a walk with GRINGO and you will learn more about nature than David Attenborough could ever tell you!! also go to the rockpools with KING DAVID and ALFRED lots of info guaranteed. What more can i say TBBC we wiil be back!!!!

Room tip: pick a lamu room if poss and ask for ROY

I recently stayed at the TBBC for two weeks at the end of October with my husband and our 4 year old son. Having never visited Kenya before I found the long coach transfer intresting and a great chance to see different parts of Kenya.

The hotel itself is clean, has all of the facilities that you would need and the staff are just so amazing. The Fun Base Team work hard with various activities water aerobics, water polo, volleyball etc and have organised walks every morning to different areas around the hotel and outskirts. We went on one walk to the Creek which was ok, we did get some beach boys join us and they made us a lovely hand carved door plaque for our son. Our son enjoyed the Kids Club especially the early kids dinner at 6.30pm and DVD's until 9pm, which gave my husband and I peacefull dinner! They also offerred babysitting which we didnt use but others there did and were really happy with it. Patience is one of the ladies and she was brilliant with the kids as were they all. The pool's are great for the kids and Alex the barman, Derek with the sun loungers, Jothan in the restuarant were all really good and stood out to us with the service they gave. The rooms are clean, fresh and comfortable, air conditioning is cold! We also tipped as we went along as they do get days off so would rather show our appreciation when the service is given. The Food was ok, we only ate in the main restuarant and found that there was enough selection which was hot for us to eat, lots of meat!

We went on the beach a couple of times and you can hire a pedalo with the Watersports Centre which is free for half an hour - check with tides to see when best to go out but you get a great view of the beach without the hassle!

We felt that we were treated fairly, same as other guests "repeaters" and was great to get chatting to them.

We went on safari to Tsarvo East with JT Safari's which was great, I will post a seperate review for this and also Voi Lodge which had such a spectacular setting. Only downside to this was there was no air conditioning in the room but was still worth staying there.

I may go back in the future to TBBC as is such a great hotel but if I were to go on safari again I would go to Masai Mara which everyone raves about with JT Safari's again.

Room tip: D Block is away from building works next door and nice and quiet

We stayed at Turtle Bay in October 2011, we chose it over Hemingway which by far is on a dfferent scale, because Turtle Bay had kids club, and we thought our daughter will enjoy it. It kept her busy for some part of the day, while we were reading/dozing off and relaxing on the beach.

The hotel is not quiet and relaxing it's crowded and busy, the food is 4.5 on a scale of 10, but if you are cooking for a mass we did not except above average food anyway.

I was very annoyed that a hair cream which I bring from abroad and a goggle which I have paid $20 went missing, but I was even more annoyed how the house keeping manager handled the situation. I was told that the items were not left behind according to their log book, I told her that they were not left behind, they went missing, because we could not find either items in the room when we were leaving.

I would say stay at hemingway if you have more than one kid they will entertain themselves in the pool and on the beach and you can always do activities offered on the beach by other companies like snorckling etc...

An absolutely awesome place for a family holiday.
We loved every moment of it.
The staff are so friendly that we immediately felt at home.
Rooms are plain but who is going to be spending time in their room
when you are in this wonderful place.
Loads of entertainment.
Nice beach.
But 5 * for the staff.

Returned from my second stay at TBBC on12th October, still a great place to stay my room was in the main block and the building work next to TBBC was a pain if you can upgrade to a Lamu room there's no problem. There didn't appear to be as many waiters this year and service was slow at times. There can be a lot of seaweed on the beach in September and October.
I had two great excursions with Raymond of Kingi Safaris, I highly recommend him, the Mida Creek and BBQ is great value, snorkel and then Lobster for lunch.
Raymond also arranged my two night Air Safari on the Masai Mara without any problems I stayed at Governors a great camp in the best area of the Mara.
