We were only going for a week and not having had a holiday for a couple of years it needed to be special and wow did it deliver.
It didn't start well when the plane had a technical problem and we were delayed 15 hours, but praise must go to Monarch for the hospitality they showed us.
Anyway arriving at 1am we found TBBC had kept staff back to feed us!
Couldn't complain about the rooms, food, facilities or entertainment, but best of all was the service. Nothing was a problem, everyone had a smile and the whole holiday was just made perfect.
Went on a snorkelling trip, booked through the hotel, which was great.
We did book a two day safari through Ibrahim, our Thomas Cook rep, (who was also brilliant), to Tsavo East and Salt lick. Been based in Wattamu it is a little bit of a trek to get there, especially in the rainy season as the short cut we took was damaged by the rain/trucks. The views from Voi Safari lodge during lunch and Salt lick overnight are simply ones that will be with us all for ever - superb. The whole safari was made by our guide, Beka, who was both skillful at the navigation and knowledgable about the animals/area. Salt lick is one of those places where the photos just don't do it justice. During the night we were woken by Elephants and on looking out of our window, saw the reason for there vocal trumpeting - a lioness. They made such a racket, but we didn't care, it was magical.
Beka took us back through Mombasa, a city he was rightly proud of. It may not be everyones cup of tea, but hearing of the Kenyans struggles and there progress it was well worth the diversion.
Anyway if you want a family holiday which will live for you forever the Kenyan, and especially the Turtle Bay Beach Club, experience is one that should be top of your list. Forget the troubles they are having with there neighbours (security was excellent), back this superb countryMore
