Although the areas surrounding the beach is full of plastic bottles, the water here is better than other filthy beaches in and around mumbai. Go here to experience calm surroundings, peaceful sunsets and lip-smacking food

Beach is good, clean without lot of people. Just a few hours drive from Mumbai. Great for a day or an overnight trip.

This is one terrible beach - filthy and full of people, who are dirtying up the place. Completely avoidable.

“A nice beach, but the surroundings are dirty”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2012

A not so well know beach North of Mumbai, a short drive away, you can be here in a couple of hours. It has a range of small places to stay in. Most of them Home stays trying to morph into small hotels. The ones with home cooked food are the best. Also has a few with swimming pools.

The beach is nice and big. Very shallow, so make sure you catch the high tide, otherwise water is very shallow. The sand is black, the beach is clean but the Casuarina groves leading to the beach are filled with garbage. The locals do a thriving business with many stalls and parking charges, yet the approach to the beach is totally littered...

The Kelwa fort is a disaster. On the left of the beach is a small piece which can be approached only during low tide, through the local fishing village/jetty. The right most section is hidden inside the Casuarina grove. Both are fragments of what must have been a massive fort at some time. The locals don't seem to give any importance to them, and anyway they are painted upon and littered.
