We stayed at the Chateau (reviewed separately). This is a nice restaurant to go to once, but if you stay at the Chateau, it is your only option each day! Food is sophisticated, the wine list is good but expensive, and the service is attentive but the waiters should work on their personal hygiene.

The food served is very high-end-gourmet French style. In other words, it's lots of courses with little amounts of food, served with foam, jus and any other fashionable food gravy out at the moment!

The food was impeccable, and the service was brilliant.

The only slight frustration was (and I know this is very 'French', and I'm sure this is the norm and me being picky!) but between every course, a bread roll was served.
On one hand, you need to eat the rolls or else you'd be STARVING due to portion sizes. On the other hand, after 2 days of bread rolls, the roof of my mouth was in pieces!

All in all though, a great experience - love that Champagne sorbet!!

The restaurant is very good and offers a great variety in menus, à la carte dishes and wines and champagnes. The chef offers a high-quality classical French cuisine with some pleasant surprises. We stayed at the hotel and had dinner with our 9 months' old son every day and staff were very baby/kid friendly. The setting is really relaxing (two separate large castle rooms). It's always a good sign for a hotel restaurant when there are a lot of external people coming over for lunch and dinner (especially for a hotel pretty remote such as Chateau-de-Fère. Ask if you can visit the Chateau's cellars; quite impressive.
