We stayed at the First World Hotel for 2 nights on 15,16 March 08. We were 7 friends and we had a blast. Sure the hotel has some problems, but if you're not too particular about where you stay, its a great place.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, tho we were hardly ever in the rooms. The bathrooms are small, but one can manage. The check-in takes a long time and we were prepared for it. You need to go take a chit which has a number. We got ours at around 1 PM (no. 484) while no. 250 was being checked in. We dropped off our bags at the waiting counter and went across to survey the place. Lots and lots of places to eat, drink. We hit the casino asap and it was huge, but really crowded.

If you're a roulette fan, this is not the place for you. Its a minimum of 10 ringgit for number bets and 25 ringitts for outside bets (odd/even & black/red) There are so many people at the table, its just absurd. It takes 15 minutes after the spin for the casino to pay off bets which means you have to wait a Loooooooooong time for the next spin.

Hit the touchscreen roulette counter. They have around 75-100 touchscreen counters and a big screen tv which shows the ball being rolled into play.

If you've booked thru a travel agent, please be careful, they give you vouchers with the date on it. We didn't see that the indoor theme park vouchers were valid only on the 15th and we had to forfeit the voucher.

The outdoor theme park is great fun. Lots of rides for people of all ages. Plenty of places to eat as well.

Tip: pick up some bottles of water, snacks from the closest 7-11 at a petrol station on the way as water and drinks are more expensive than in KL.

All in all a nice fun place especially for people in colleges/ youngsters and groups of friends.

My husband and i browsed through all the Genting hotel websites and forums and read people's blogs and finally chose First World Hotel in Genting because we wanted to stay as close to the theme park as possible. We booked online from the hotel website and enjoyed the 15 percent discount.Paid like RM180/night inclusive breakfast for 2. We booked 3 weeks in advance, and there were only the Superior deluxe rooms available, but that was what we wanted for our 3 days 2 nights stay.Genting cannot book last minute,or else full full full! So we packed our jackets and shawls (even our dvd player!) and drove up there, parked at the convenient hotel parking(lots of parking lots),and got a ticket number to queue for Check-in.It says check in at 3pm,but u can try from 12pm actually. We got a nice, big room (from the website pic like tiny) on the 17th floor in Tower 2 ,with beautiful view of the mountains, large screen tv,tea/coffee,fridge etc,and was nice and clean. We were hoping for the long bath, but got the shower, nevermind, yeah the bathroom was a bit small, but ok la ,as long as it is clean. Its so easy to access the indoor theme park/shopping mall & outdoor them park.We just go down to the 8th floor, where there is the Restaurant for breakfast, and Cultural village shops selling souvenieres from China,Indonesia,Singapore, thailand, india etc.and can go down to the bowling alley and the mall.Or else go down to the 1st floor lobby and go up escalator to the indoor theme park/mall. We rode on the Euro express train RM8/person,its a short thrill ride within the mall. And we rode on the monorail caterpillar ,which starts from inside the indoor theme park and goes outside round the outdoor theme park.can see all the rides.RM8/person too.The motion master was showing Pre-historia dinosaur show, but we didnt make it for that one.Food is definitely not a problem, cause there are sooo many to choose from. They've got all the KFC,McD,KennyRogersRoastChicken,PizzaHut,Mexican food and local fare food, food courts both upstairs and downstairs. They keep the bathrooms/toilets clean also. We would love to go back up again soon as we just love it up there, the nice, cold weather. The only improvement comment that i want to suggest is they should upgrade the tiny caterpillar compartments,it was a bit claustrophobic, the tracks werent smooth and the ride passes over abandoned pieces of thrill rides and overgrown grass etc.A bit unkept and forgotten,it seems. And the windows outside the building should be cleaned once in awhile, looks like a lot of dirt build up over time.
But,hey, all in all ,our stay at the first world hotel was great !

I stayed at this hotel as a tour package Melaka-Genting-Kuala Lumpur from Singapore tour agent. I was glad that I chose this hotel using tour agent otherwise I would have to queue for ages (the check-in counters are 30 but the rooms are 6,118, you do the figure). There are some special check-in counters for tour agent and I didn't I have to wait at all :))

We were allocated standard rooms on tower 2. The rooms are plain and ordinary but I think it is adequate for 1 night stay, the room is somewhat clean and the bathroom is adequately clean. The standard rooms do have windows but they are facing other rooms windows so there is no view.

Although I can recommend this budget hotel to everyone but I will probably not back to Genting as it was a disappointment to me.

My last thought before I left that place was…Who would like to come here?
Though I was prepared to some extent after reading the reviews but nothing could have prepared me for the experience. We reached there at around 10:30 pm and by the time we finished check in and got into our room, it was already 3:30...we weren't prepared for such long 5-6 hours wait after our overnight trip from Delhi. And in my humble opinion the wait wasn't worth it. There wasn't much there except few indoor rides and run down entertainment that would only appeal to first timers and kids. And again be prepared to wait from 45 mins to over an hour for each one of them.
As for rooms, I think the super deluxe room with a view was ok, it could have been better if only it had some basic amenities like hair dryer and room heater.
The breakfast had very few vegetarian choices to offer. But the many food courts and restaurants in the indoor theme park of the hotel more than make up for it.
If you really have to include it in your trip, reach Genting early, put your baggage with the concierge. Go out to the outdoor park. Come back after you are done for the day, check in at your convenience. Indoor theme park and casino can be enjoyed later in the evening or early next day.

My husband and I initially booked an el-cheapo package at this hotel for 3 days and 2 nights, but little did we know that the Deluxe room given to us in the package was horrible! It was very small and was a 2-star room, at best. We quickly decided to upscale our room to a Superior room but we had to fork out extra cash for it. A word of advise, if you want to stay in a decent room in this hotel for more than 1 night, then you better get a Superior room on Tower 2 (the newer hotel wing), which is the room I'm going to write about in this review.

The room was spacious and nicely furnished and everything looked brand new, including the sofa and other furniture. The deco was a bit modern, but it suited our tastes well. There was no balcony to speak of, but the view from the room windows were quite nice, that of rolling green hills and the mist that hung to them. If you open the windows at night, then the cold mist would come into your room, making you feel as if you're abroad and not in Malaysia. Heheh.

The only minus point about staying at any hotel in Genting is mostly the food. It's not a matter of availability (there are numerous fast food and other food outlets in First World Plaza, just a few minutes walk from your hotel) but rather a question of price. If you are not interested in having your meals at the hotel buffet, then you're going to have to fork out a lot of cash for buying food, as everything here costs significantly more than the same thing bought somewhere else, say in KL city centre or anywhere else, for that matter. A packet of crackers which would normally cost you RM2 at a sundry shop in KL is selling for RM4.50 here in Genting. While meals from McDonald's or KFC will cost about RM4 or RM5 extra. Trust me, either go for the hotel buffet or bring along your own food supply. Instant ramen, anyone? Hehehe.

In terms of value, the package that we booked came with two complimentary tickets to a sort of musical magic concert called 'The Fly'. The concert itself was quite entertaining and went beyond our initial expectations. So, a definite plus point there.

In terms of service, we are not really in the position to give an opinion as apart from the initial check-in counter staff, we hardly had any encounters with the other hotel staff. Rooms were made up pretty decently and cleanly every day, although we were out of the room when they made it up.

All in all, if you get the right room (Superior room on Tower 2!), this will be hotel that you'd scarcely have any regrets staying in.

Frankly speaking... I go to Genting Highland quite frequently. It almost two month once. Averagely I will go to Genting Highlands at least 7-8 times per year.

Of course the main purpose my hubby and I like to go to Genting Highland is because of the weather and gambling in casino but we are not the gamblers. We just like to try our luck there. We will always set a limit to 'loose' the money so that we would not addicted to the gamble... Hehe...

First World Hotel will always be our first choice. Honestly it is because this hotel is near to the casino. Secondly, there is a massage centre at the same floor with the check-in counter. My hubby and I love to go to massage after gambling or before going back to hotel room for sleep.

Even the standard room is pretty small but is it ok for me coz my hubby and I will always spent the long time outside the room.

Standard room : Never even imagine of, the worst rooms where you will not like to send anyone. Tower 2 : Super Deluxe rooms are good. Can stay. There is no room service in this hotel. The Reception staff is good and helpful. Do not directly believe your travel agent. Most lie and give false information. Contact directly the hotel, honest people. Nice place to stay with good view in super deluxe rooms just RM 120 more than standard room, worth upgrading.
