“People for god sake don't make a mistake...”
Reviewed September 12, 2010

People for god sake don't make a mistake of booking this hotel, my reasons for advising so are based on:
1: this is a very old hotel with smell so terrible that a normal person can stand it
2 oh I almost fainted when I went to washroom
3 it's location is at the bottom of genting resort which in itself is very old n outdated, n if I ever had any kids with me I would never let them touch a single thing here, it is filthy
5 don't go by wht it says about being 5 stars it should be less than 3 stars
6 oh! Checking...,u need to wait atleast one n half hours, staff doesn't seem to be bothered or concerned, duty manager comes with excuses but do u want excuses n discomfort for ur holiday?
I am serious guys book this only if u do not have anywhere else to go.

This was our first visit to Genting and we were quite excited about the trip. Our travel agent had booked us at Awana Genting Highland as the hotels at Genting theme park were fully booked.

On first impressions the hotel seemed quite clean and well maintained. Check-in took about half an hour which was expected seeing the rush. We were given a room on 21st floor of the tower and the view was really good with lush green surroundings all around. The room had two comfortable queen beds and the attached washroom was clean. The room seemed refurbished though the TV was a 21” CRT but we weren’t complaining as we hardly had any time to watch TV. The day we arrived it was raining and weather was pretty cool but we still had to switch on the air-conditioner as it was a bit humid.

The breakfast spread was pretty decent with lots of variety and service was quite up to the mark. We were glad that we didn’t stay at one of the theme park hotels as it was extremely crowded and noisy up there and the kids really enjoyed the Skyway ride to Genting Theme Park.

For the unbelievable low price we paid (40 dollars a room) we had an excellent stay. Great views from the hotel over the golf course and friendly staff.

You are a bit out of the way since you have to take either a shuttle or the cable car to genting (20 to 30 minutes) but for that you get a really quit spot with lots of options.

Once in genting you're surrounded by locals we didn't see any foreign tourists as far as we could see.

The amusement park and most of the genting highlands is so outdated it was hilarious to see. But for the 1 day we had we had fun. Don't expect Las Vegas style fun, it's 45 years old and it shows. If you want Las Vegas got to Resort World Sentosa (Singapore) same owner, but completely new and a Universal Studios park

Awana hotel is beautiful located at a hill top. The scenic view from the room is awesome.
The climate is extremely cool and romantic. The rooms are cozy with all basic amenities.

Since it is located at the foot of the genting highland, to reach its peak or amusement park or casino, we need to take sky way service.
It’s a spectacular view to reach the amusement park thru sky way.

However, for vegetarians the choice of food is limited.

Booked Deluxe Superior for a night. Was at Theme Park Hotel earlier. This hotel is a far cry from the noise and chaos up there. We had a room on the 23rd floor and the view was superb! Our room have coffee-making facilities with electric kettle provided for. There was also an empty but operating fridge, a safe, ironboard and iron, the usual bathroom amenities.

Check-in was slow. At 1.45pm. was told to wait an hour for the room as the maid was still cleaning it. At 3pm, the maid was still at it but finished up quickly upon seeing us. Room was spacious and clean but chairs looked a bit stain.

Reception was not very helpful or knowledgeable about hotel shuttle matters. Would be better to check with information counter at the entrance. Asked about shuttle to Strawberry farm and was told to take a cab which will cost around RM40. Reception was not aware that hotel shuttle actually stops at Gontong Jaya Bus stop. From the Bus stop is just a 2-3mins walk to strawberry farm. The mushroom and orchid farm is in the same vincinity as the strawberry farm. Worth a visit! Do try the Refreshing and sweet Strawberry Milk Shake @RM8.

Rajawali coffee house is hugh and cosy. Food is mediocre though. The varieties they served for buffet breakfast were better than theme park hotel. There were many kinds of breads, salads, yoghurt, toast, Milk and cereals, Indian-vege and rotis, sausages and bacons, Potato wedges, an egg counter, lontong (nice gravy but not kept warm), oat porridge, Nasi-lemak (did not try this) petite choco danish (only 1 type of danish!!), 3 types of butter cakes which was kind of dissapointing (panda & marble cake and petite blueberry cupcake), juices, sweet coconut dessert malay cake, fruits (lots of watermelon) and the usual coffee/tea. Could not see any fried rice or noodles. Would be nice if they have the fried rice/noodles and more varieties of cakes, like chocolate cakes, fruit cakes, cheese cakes....yummm.

Hotel offers some eco-tours and buggy rides around the vincinity for a small tour fare but we did not have time to try this. There was also a moonlight tour where they bring you on a ride in the buggy, fireflies viewing and supper.

Hotel provides free 2-way cable-car tix to upper genting but we did not used it as we'd just spent the day before up there. Was actually glad to get away from it. Do note that during Genting skyway closure, the Go-Genting Bus Ticket counter will not be operating at Genting lower skyway station. You will then need to travel back up to first world bus terminal to get your Go-Genting Bus tickets bound for KL.

Awana Genting hotel would be my top choice if I will to visit Genting again. If you like serenity, relaxing and natural environment, this is it!
