Having eaten here a good few times it has never disappointed , the food is good value and worthy of any food critics write up. Food is locally sourced and cooked to perfection and immaculately presented by chefs Peter and Richard . While these guys take care of things in the open kitchen , Shelly and Boris and staff float around the floor with pure professionalism and grace . A good variety of wines along with fresh breads and pastes and cheeses that you can buy to bring the taste of bates home with you . This is a must see little restaurant in rathdrum . You will not be disappointed

Visited Bates on Saturday night, this is one of our favourites restaurants and we had not been for some time so were really looking forward to it.

As always we were very happy with all aspects of the Bates experience. We had a lovely intimate table for two which was perfect and there was a warm welcoming atmosphere. Service as always was attentive and clean. Our food was fab - we could not resist going for the venison again washed down with a bottle of Argentinian Malbec. Love it every time!

We were a large party on a busy Saturday night...the service was excellent, we chose the three course set menu, there was a good choice, and it was all hot and tasty, good wine list. The restaurant was quaint with lots of character, and a great buzz!

I frequented this restaurant quite frequently under the previous ownership and had been given to believe it had maintained its relatively good standard - not so.

We requested a particular table on booking as we were aware of the irregular floor level in the top section of the restaurant, on arrival the table we requested was occupied. We sat down and had to request cushions for 2 of the chairs as the centres have unfortunately fallen down which leaves your table level too high for comfortable dinning. Tablecloths appear to be a thing of the past also.

We ordered our food and wine, the food
was disappointing - more bistro style than
restaurant and very mediocre. The staff while attentive and in one case slightly too familiar did not seem to be aware how our orders were as we had on more than one occasion to answer the same questions twice. It's a very small restaurant so no excuse for this little problem.

It was a restaurant I would recommend to anyone but unfortunately I would not recommend it to anyone with its current stabdards. I think it badly needs a good manager and chief with some flair.
