Just returned from an Easter break in hidden valley . The site was very good with lots of entertainment laid on for the kids .Egg hunt ,X factor stuff like that although not sure if this is laid on every weekend .

Caravan pitches were a little cramped but manageable although the camping field was across the river and on bad ground .Place was packed over the weekend and seems to be booked up for the coming week .I would return to this site .The only complaint i would have is the poor reception /shop on site .

Just returned from very pleasant short easter break with 2 young children and our dog in tow. This site is well maintained, the owner/manager is constantly zooming around on his moped checking all is in order. The shower blocks and toilets were kept very clean at all times even though the site was full - we tried to extend our stay but there was no space available!

Our 8 year old daughter and 3 year old son enjoyed the adventure playground(s) there were 2 different areas one more suitable for toddlers and the other a little bit more adventurous for older children ( there was no extra charge for this as mentioned in previous reviews - not sure if this was because it was off season, I definitely would not have been happy paying €5.00 per child on top of the pitch rates ) and we all enjoyed an hour or so on the small lake in kayaks and rowing boats which were charged at €5.00 for the kayak and €2.00 per person for the rowing boat.

As we arrived early on Thursday we got a great pitch which had plenty of space to spread out all the equipment which comes with camping. The children of the regular residents seemed to have free run of the park and were out and about from dusk till dawn and our daughter was able to make plenty of friends - very important for an 8 year old girl!!!

The views were fantastic and after a full days activities the kids were ready to settle down with a DVD at 9 oclock leaving us to enjoy a well deserved glass of wine with spectacular views under a blanket of stars - what more could you ask for, this place was my idea of heaven, on our way home we booked for the next 2 bank holiday weekends and we are all looking forward to our next trip.

We stayed in the hidden valley for two nights in our motorhome. It is in a lovely location beside a river and has its own boating pond for children. It is an ideal base for cycling and walking being located in one of the most beautiful parts of Wicklow. The local village with its bars and shops is a few minutes walk away up a steep hill. The pitches are very good with electric hook up, water and waste water disposal available on each pitch. It must be a great spot for children as they seemed to be on the go from dawn to dusk and we never heard a child cry during the time we were there. There is an 23.00 hour noise curfew on the site which was as far as we could tell never needed to be enforced. The owner was constantly in attendance on the site and was very friendly and helpful at all times. He allowed us to extend our stay on the day of departure with no extra charge as we wanted to cycle to Glenmalur. He told us we could stay till that evening if we wished as the weather was so nice. We could not agree with some of the negative comments made in other reviews following our stay. We could see that there are currently impovements being made at Hidden valley but impovements are always needed to keep a good site in peak condition. We intend to return to hidden valley with our grand children in the near future.

this has the potential to be a nice spot but there are too many caravans jammed too close together. The photos are misleading since there is no way to enoy the surrounding other than to look at the stretch of river by the campsite. you cannot go walking in the woods or anywhere other then the site or roads.
The toilet block is a bit better than standard, it has tiled concrete block walls rather then the painted norm. It sells itself as 5 star site, but I would rather stay in a field. Its ok if you like your fun canned and you want to take the kids for a quick mini canoe paddle in the pond but even that wears thin after one go. And its not cheap!

We stayed here in July with 3 young children in what was described as a luxury log cabin. Luxury it wasn't, but it was adequate. Unfortunately the TV could only pick up a very fuzzy RTE1 and there was no DVD player so in the evening and when it rained the kids got a bit bored. I realise this shouldn't be a big issue on an outdoor holiday but I felt we were misled on this which is a little annoying.
The mattresses on the bunks had seen better days which was a bit icky - they were only cheap mattresses anyway and wouldn't cost that much to replace; but overall the cabin was reasonably clean. Basic rather than luxury

The location is lovely, the river is a big plus but the small artificial lake was a bit of a let-down. The kids did the kayaking but it's only exciting the first couple of times on that little lake.
I definitely didn't get a good vibe off the manager, Barry. He was a whisker away from rolling his eyes whenever I asked him anything and not being very assertive I just didn't bother unless it was something major (couple of things which were eventually sorted, after I had asked 2 or 3 times which is difficult for a rabbit like me). I did see him being very aggressive with some kids and he is quite scary in aggressive mode. I could see that some of the other guests were getting on great with him, so maybe it's fair to say he's a bit changeable, especially give the mixed reviews on here.
The other staff were absolutely lovely, especially the youngsters who had an excellent customer service ethic.
We used the toilet blocks a couple of times and although there was a cleaning girl there doing her best, with so many tents and caravans on site I think it was hard work to keep on top of the cleaning.
Also I wasn't aware that dogs were allowed on site - in fact I could've sworn I'd read somewhere that dogs weren't allowed, but maybe I'm mistaken. I know for some people this will be a plus but it isn't for us.
With 3 kids the cost of using the playground was astronomical - 5 euros a day each. There were deals eg 5 days for the price of 3 which was the only thing that made it affordable. It definitely wasn't worth that and in fact I thought there were safety issues with some of the equipment, not to mention the stoney ground. The kids enjoyed the 2 big tunnel slides and the climbing stuff (which was averagely good, nothing special and nothing to get an 8+ year old excited) and it whiled away an hour or two for them per day (less and less time per day as the week went on, of course).
Rathdrum village was about a 20 minute walk (uphill) and a lovely place. The locals were friendly and helpful.
It's an ideal location for visiting Glendalough and Avoca, and Brittas Bay. We also took the kids to Clara Lara which they loved - we spent about 4 hours there before they had had enough.
To be honest I did appreciate the quiet character of the place, if you hanker after a bit of night-time socialising or entertainment (even TV!) then it's not ideal for you. Bed-time for us is about 10pm so we didn't have any issues with the noise curfew. There was definitely a few rumblings about the manager from other families so not entirely relaxing or a particularly good atmosphere there. Still, we would probably go back mostly because of the ideal location in that part of Wicklow, it was preferable for us over a B&B or holiday cottage because the kids made some friends and enjoyed having a little bit of freedom to go out and play which they don't have at home.
I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend without warning them of the down sides.
