A very nice place in a good location. The service was great and so was the pizza and spaghetti bolones. You can also order a house wine which was very nice. The prices are good.

Tried here recently with some friends in a bid to try more restaurants in Teramo rather than the few we always frequent.

The service was friendly, and pretty fast. It was perhaps 1/3 full at peak (Tuesday evening).

The décor and layout was okay..no TV hurrah!

Pizza was good, salads basic, beer good, wine poor. Coffee was possibly the worst I've had in Italy. We were the first to order coffee and therefore likely the first time the machine has been used since lunchtime, should have simply pulled some weather through first. I asked for espresso macchiato and was given a UHT pot of milk!

Just not enough to take me back, but no reason for others not to try it either.

We'd been meaning to try this pizzeria for some time, but as is often the case in this part of the world, when you find a good place to eat pizza, why take the risk on going somewhere else?

Anyhow, being in central Teramo with some friends, we suggested that we give "El Gato" a try. It's located a short walk from the main piazza and the frontage of the building is very inviting. It's an old building and once you get inside, it is warm and welcoming, with the pizzeria split into 2 dining areas. Unlike many pizzeria, the lighting is not harsh, there was no blaring TV in the back room and the décor subtle - no bright gawdy orange, yellows and reds, as seems to be the norm for many other pizza joints in Teramo and its' surrounds.

The service was friendly and unhurried. We all had pizza, plus salad, chosen from a very extensive pizza menu. All were of a good size (not huge), well cooked with a crisp, thinnish base - just how I like them. Only I had dessert, which was a lovely affogato, topped with pistachio and swimming in a pool of coffee liqueur, possibly Tia Maria. Delicious!

Our friends had bottled beer, which was fine and we took the risk of ordering a half litre carafe of house red, as we rarely buy bottled wine when eating pizza (min was €15 a bottle here), because often the local Montepulciano d'Abruzzo house is very, very good....and cheap! The risk didn't pay off. As soon as it arrived and realised it was chilled, we knew we'd made a mistake. As I poured the first glass, the nose of the wine indicated this was not going to be good and it wasn't. Should I complain when it's €3 for half a litre? Perhaps. When there are so many good cantina's in this part of the world where you can buy top notch red at €1.50 a litre or less, why on earth do some places buy terrible house wine?

One other little gripe was the coffee. The espresso cups had not been heated, so the coffee was all but cold. Thin, no crema and lacking in a full taste that I'd expect.

We will return, but will drink beer and we will have a conversation about where they get their awful wine from.
