Oh dear, not sure what's happened but what was a great place to eat has now turned into the absolute opposite. As we sat down a couple next to us were complaining about the food and we thought "all a bit unnecessary" but by the end of our meal we had to agree. So sorry about this, poor guy behind the bar looked a bit upset and we really felt for him. Still! on a positive the beer is outstanding and I would gladly drink myself stupid in there.

We went for dinner on Friday and was surprised to get space as it is normally overbooked. We noticed that the menu has changed and were looking forward to eating the quality food. Unfortunately, the starters were nothing special and the main meal (burger) although seasoned beautifully did not hold together. Therefore will not be going there again in a rush. I don't know what has changed but it is a real shame.

Apart from a very chatty New Zealander behind the bar, this was a never again experience. We have eaten and drunk here before on a couple of occasions and were anticipating another enjoyable dining experience. Sadly, two of three meals left us feeling slightly queezy!!!!! (The other was satisfactory.) Soggy and somehow bitter (!) fish, far too overcooked gammon and soggy chips meant everyone left meals unfinished.

We won't be returning to eat or drink - many other places to choose from. Sad, because the interior is attractive and cosy and the open fire lends a real atmosphere. But essentially, one eats out to eat and this was not a satisfactory outing.

Gave the Fleece another visit after not eating here for a while as we live close by. We both had fish and chips. The portion of mushy peas was very small and the fish tasteless. The service was friendly and they do serve an excellent pint of wharfebank's various bitters. Will stick to drinking here and continue to travel to the Roebuck which never disappoints on food.

Haven't been here for a while, so as the opportunity was presented to us (ie no kids!) we thought we'd give them a try again (not been for a while due to kids & job losses!) SO....we found ourselves in time for the Early Bird offer (5pm-7pm £12.95 for 2 courses) (portions weren't downgraded due to the EB offer either - I've been to establishments before where they've served smaller portions due to an EB offer) We had for our starter calamari fried with chilli & lime-left us both wanting more! 1 main course of Prawn & Chorizo luiguine - a massive plate of pasta (could have done with a few more prawns but they were big ones) the other main was fish & chips, huge fish, beautiful batter, homemade mushy peas & a few chips. Pudding was creme brulee with a sauce, it was nice, creamy & vanillery & the sauce was great aswell. Also several pints of their own brewed beer was consumed (no this doesn't affect the review!) which were VERY nice. There was only 1 member of staff service, so service was a LITTLE slow however we didn't mind this too much as it allowed your previous course to settle & you didn't feel rushed to hand the table back as you do in some establishments. I couldn't fault the meal otherwise.
