We stayed here prior to an early flight from Leeds/Bradford to Venice.
Positives: the staff are great- we were leaving too early for breakfast, but the receptionist asked us if we would like the night staff to prepare us a continental breakfast anyway. We did, and it filled a gap. They didn't have to do that. The receptionist, barman and night staff were all most helpful- the hotel's main asset. Another main asset is the hotel's position. It is close to the airport, but in quiet grounds. The price is right- £75 a night including 7 nights parking. The hotel smells lovely, of pine, like a big sauna. The bar served local real ale, Ilkley Brewery's Mary Jane during our stay. It is a spring seasonal ale, not strong, but an exceptionally tasty elderflower scented hoppy brew. Finally, my car was exactly where I left it when we returned.
Negatives: for a hotel advertising itself as somewhere to park and stay near the airport, the parking area was small. There were broken floorboards right by our room. The room was poky, with scarcely space for two cases. The shower would not sit in its housing. Showering with one hand, the other holding the shower head at 5 in the morning is very, very irritating. Some of the decor in the hotel dining room is tired.
In conclusion, we would probably stay here again, but the journey to Leeds from Wolverhampton was such that we would try to fly from closer to home. The hotel's saving grace is its staff. But for them this review would be 2 or 3 out of 5. We got the impression that the owners of the hotel are treating it as a bit of a cash cow, not attending to basic maintenance and running it down.

We have just returned from a weekend at the Chevin Country Park Hotel & Spa. We stayed with our extended family (6 adults and 4 children) in two of the lodges - both of which were extremely comfortable and well equipped. The staff at the hotel couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. The food and service in the restaurant is also excellent with a great menu and really well executed. The children's menu was suberb too - the food for them was completely fresh and home made.

There were weddings on both Friday and Saturday, but neither of these encroached on our enjoyment of the weekend. The hotel is very spacious and there is plenty of room to accomodate both a wedding party and regular guests.

The pool and leisure area is currently undergoing re-furbishment. The pool was open and we all managed to fit in a few swims over the weekend. The re-furb is due for completion really soon and you can see that this will be a brilliant and luxurious addition to the hotel.

The hotel is right in the heart of the forest park and there are plenty of walks in and around the area for groups of all abilities. The staff at reception had details of these and were happy to print out a route map for us.

This is a great hotel, with friendly, welcoming staff which I thoroughly recommend.

Stayed here for 2 nights for a recent family wedding, our room was described as standard (which seems to mean un-refurbished) and smelled of damp. The room was a decent size and basically ok but the bathroom was very tired, it took ages to get hot water (you need to run a tap or the shower for several minutes, what a waste of water) and toilet paper seems to be strictly rationed! Room cleaning didn't seem to include the basin, bins or replacement of toilet paper. Even at a special discounted wedding rate this place is over-priced. On the positive side, the location is good for a wedding party and on the 1st night we ate in the excellent on-site restaurant which has some excellent wines on it's 'bin-end' list.

Many thanks for your recent review of the hotel, I am sorry that on this occasion the accommodation did not live up to the standards we have set ourselves. I can assure you the standard does not mean unrefurbished and that more than 45% of our rooms have been refurbished this current year with the majority of the remaining rooms scheduled for completion by the end of the year.

I am gald that you enjoyed your wedding experience and that you found the restaurant to be of an exceptionally high standard and rest assured of our commitment to ensuring all aspects of a guest's stay reaches these high standards.

Regards

Think Center Parcs without the investment. We tried 4 rooms in total over a 2 night stay, so are well qualified to comment! Room 1 was a lodge room, connected to the main building by a covered walkway. It was spacious but had no heating and that damp smell of "French gite in April". We asked to be moved. Room 2 was a "recently refurbished"( ie. it smelled strongly of paint and had bare wires hanging from a (presumably non-working) smoke detector) room ,deep in the woods. It was absolutely tiny: the 4' double(?) bed took up virtually the whole room, there was no lighting and one of the pillows was covered in dried blood. The manager offered to move us to a different hotel, but alas they were all full. So, room 3 was the bridal suite in the main lodge building (Europe's largest all-wood building, apparently: see below): the room was a large well-furnished duplex, but bizarrely again very few of the lights worked. It was, however, warm, dry and comfortable. We had to vacate the suite after one night to make room for some newly-marrieds (of which more later). Room 4 was the room next door, it was an executive room, warm, dry, clean and well-furnished. Best of all, all of the electrics worked: bliss! Room 4 was the best room of the lot. However, it soon became obvious from the number of inebriated guests wandering the corridors, packing the bar, making merry on our private patio, and playing noisy football games on the lawn outside (don't know if Jimbo ever did get it "on 'is 'ead"), that the hotel's main business, especially at weekends, is wedding parties. So, don't expect peaceful seclusion in woodland surroundings. I can't comment on the leisure facilities as they were closed for refurbishment: which we only discovered when we asked the way to the swimming pool. However, despite all this, two stars shone brightly: firstly, the staff, especially the duty manager, could not have been more apologetic and more helpful. Secondly, the restaurant was outstandingly good, and worth a visit even if you don't stay at the hotel: in fact that might be the best combination. Finally, a word on building materials: log cabins look nice, but wood does not absorb sound ( musical instruments anyone?) , so we could hear the family next door in minute and accoustically perfect detail. Secondly, wood and water don't mix, so the bathrooms were all looking a bit scuzzy, not helped by the old avocado suites and 70s fittings. If you do decide to stay here, upgrade to an executive room:it's worth the extra money.

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel here on Tripadvisor, I am sorry to hear of the senario regarding your stay and assure you that we aim to make every guests as comfortable as possible from the moment they arrive at the hotel.

Your initial room is schedule for complete refurbishment as part of our ongoing program and will follow as soon as we have finished our new Sonas Spa at Chevin health club which is due for completion early July and will be a truly wonderful addition to the hotel.

I am glad to hear that the staff and restaurant lived up to our reputation and that you enjoyed these aspects of you stay.

For a truly romantic and peaceful experience perhaps on your next visit you may like to request an executive lodge room, these offer great privacy and have all been recently refurbished.

Once again I thank for your feedback and hope to welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.

Regards

I've lived less than 2 miles from here for 8 years and never visited! 5 of us hired a lodge for Sat night and a great girly night in.
The lodges have been recently refurbished and are really lovely. We had a 2 bed lodge which sleeps 6 - a double, a twin and 2 fold out beds. There is one bathroom (no-ensuite) a great kitchen diner living room area. The kitchen is suprisingly large and pretty well equipped, though no wine glasses or microwave which is a bit odd.
There's a TV and DVD player too.
We had a couple of small problems - only half a roll of toilet roll for all of us (they soon delivered a couple extra) and no spare duvets for the pull out beds.
We didn't use the pool as it's being refurbed at the mo, but I do know it is very nice and a lovely addition to the hotel.
Breakfast was included in our package and we ate in the restaurant for this. The breakfast was great, all self service (except hot drinks and toast), not greasy and the food tasted good quality.
We paid £175 for the lodge for 5 of us, so £35 each inc breakfast which is great value.

Many thanks for posting this review, your kind comments are much appreciated and we are all glad you enjoyed your visit to the hotel.

The recently refurbished lodge rooms are beautiful and the large self catering option is perfect for larger groups who want to enjoy each others company.

Once reopened the leisure and spa facilities will be second to none and will be a really treat for each and every guest.

I do hope to welcome you back in the not to distant future.

We have just returned from a wonderful 2 night break at the Chevin Country Park hotel and must congratulate the staff for there friendliness and efficiency. The location is superb, rooms clean and comfortable and food excellent.
To sit in the spa pool/jacuzzi looking out over the pond watching the wildlife was just heaven. The terrace setting is idyllic and the surrounding countryside holds magical treats like Bolton Abbey and Parceval hall within a few miles from the hotel.
I only have one criticism and that is that the music played in the restaurant was not very conducive to a relaxing dinner or indeed a leisurely breakfast
Apart from this congratulations to all at the hotel, we will definitely be back soon.
