“Brilliant quiet country hotel stay”
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Stayed at this hotel with my Mum for 2 nights mid February. On arrival we were upgraded to a suite with a lot of room and view overlooking the lake. The staff are very attentive and friendly and so helpful. Breakfast fantastic value included in stay. Brilliant location if you want a cosy night away or few nights. Spa area with outdoor spa pool was a bonus....steam room could have been a little bigger!! Particularly lovely and helpful bar staff girl the night we ate in the lounge.
Once a gain a real gem of a break. Thank you.

Stayed here for 2 nights - booked it through living social - we stayed in the main hotel - had a great time. We enjoyed everything about the hotel. The food was to die for and we left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Thank you to the staff for your great service. We will definitely be back.

Brilliant experience in every way. Beautiful location feels like you could be a hundred miles away surrounded by amazing natural beauty. Wonderful lodges we had the executive lodge which was outstanding, and wonderfully warm. it had a beautiful bathroom and shower with tiled walls and heated towel rail, the sitting area had plentiful seating, coffee table and desk, tv, kettle, a lovely bed area, and heated walls! it seems the heating system is literally built into the walls, how cool!!! This is a very effective way of heating the cabin and you can really appreciate its benefit. The cabin felt like it had had a very expensive luxury refit as everything was done to a very nice standard. There was also a lovely spa and pool with steam room sauna and treatments available. The dining room has beautiful views over the large water area with the spa building to the side. The grounds are full of wildlife and very beautiful. The lodges and the spa are in the grounds which makes them separate from the main building but to be honest the brief walks between buildings gives you the opportunity to enjoy the landscape and setting even more. We stayed 2 evenings the second evening there was a terrible storm which took the electric out and the managers and their staff immediately took care of all guests. They called at all the cabins and rooms and offered to get guests safely to the main building, where they had log fires burning and candles everywhere. They served free wine and drinks and buffet food. When the electric was restored several hours later they additionally provided warm soup bread and chips and this was late at night bless them! This was all provided FOC and they could not have done more to keep people warm and comfortable. Their outstanding care and genuine kindness was excellent. All members of staff were outstanding. I will certainly be returning and recommending this hotel to everyone I know. So this is very highly recommended and grateful thanks to all staff thank you.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my wife during half term. We had a great break with just a few niggles.

The staff are generally great. Very friendly and go out of their way to help.

The spa and it's staff were super.

The log cabin bed room was unusual and you could overhear noises from next door. The automatic bathroom light had a mind of its own.

The let down was the food. I had a goats cheese salad which was beyond bland. The risotto also lacked any discernible flavour.

My wife ordered a quintet of scallops. Only four arrived. Even worse the promised potatoes/veg had to be requested. We also had to ask for her scallops to be kept warm whilst waiting. And for the elusive fifth one.

Breakfast however is a triumph. Plentiful and tasty.

One more slight niggle. If you know the road is going to be closed perhaps it would be benificial to let guests know of alternative routes back to the hotel.

Would I stay again. Yes absolutely but might eat elsewhere

I've seen a couple of not so nice reviews here, so wanted to write a little to say what a perfect wedding we had at the Chevin.

We got married in May 2013, on what was one of the sunniest days of the year - so the beautiful grounds at the Chevin made for perfect photos.

The staff were absolutely incredible in ensuring that every part of our special day ran smoothly. Chris and Vicky were instrumental in ensuring the day went perfectly. The staff set everything up for the wedding perfectly as I'd described!

The food was exceptional - all our guests commented on the quality. We also had some lovely guest comments as to how the venue makes for a very personal wedding as it's unique, welcoming and informal.

The Lakeside is a perfect place for an intimate ceremony, and the Woodlands Suite was ideal for our wedding breakfast and evening do.

The Bridal Suite was perfect, and the hotel were also happy to accommodate all our guests for breakfast in a separate room the following day.

Rather than writing an extensive review, I'd be more than happy to respond to replies for recommended rooms, food and suppliers for a wedding at the Chevin.

It really was the perfect venue for a perfect wedding - we cannot fault a single element.

Room Tip: The suites outside as beautiful.

Our stay was with a Groupon deal for two nights in February. We also stayed in Chalet 59 and found it very warm and comfortable. We had everything we needed. The hotel staff were very helpful, polite and efficient. Breakfast was good on both days and we also enjoyed being able to eat less formal meals in the evening from a good menu choice in the bar area. Lovely to see open fires. Great atmosphere. Lovely area to explore. We visited York and walked on the Otley Chevin. Beautiful scenery.

my partner booked the valentines weekend, only negative of our whole trip was the staff at the front desk didnt give us any information on arrival, e.g we didnt no we had to book in for our tea which was a good job we arrived for tea early and where told at the door we needed to book, also didnt no our spa treatments were booked into time slots which we had to find out due to exploring otherwise we would of missed them, we got the spa package deal and stayed in a lovely cabin room, (cabin 70) our cabin was out the way and was peacefull, the rooms where very comfortable and cosy and clean and was stocked with coffee and tea. food was fantastic, we were sceptical about the 6course as it didnt sound like our thing but we enjoyed every course on both nights, breakfast was also fantastic, good selection, helpfull waiting staff. our spa massages were great. overall we loved the place and will certainly be back

Room Tip: cabin room 70, its out the way and very peicefull
