What a blast! This place is so elegent I expected the king to make an appearance! The rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. Since we qualified for the "Golden Days" rate, I found it to be very affordable and wish we could have stayed more than one night. The breakfast buffet was really nice. Don't miss this one!

We had a wonderful stay here. Large room with huge bathroom. Comfortable beds and sheets. Nice shower and towels. Adequate breakfast. But, the parador was magical. I loved the feel of this. It was pricey, but after having driven for about 10 hours, it provided the rest and relaxation we needed

This parador was only a 1-night stay for my wife and I but made an immediate impression, especially upon entering the central lounge area. Fantastic! Our room was also wonderful...a very spacious corner room with double-doors opening to Juliet balconies on both external walls. Nothing individually spectacular to look at but the fact that we could see the horizon through 180 degrees was spectacular enough. Our 3rd Parador to date and the service was of a high standard...which now seems to be typical. The staff are always friendly and efficient...and extremely tolerant of our language shortcomings.

A beautifully appointed palace, our room was a bit disappointing with no view, but ok, we ate dinner in the restaurant, which again ok, but not special or good vfm. The breakfast room was pretty spectacular, as was the food, normally fried eggs were freshly prepared on request, but not at this paradore. However the reception staff were most helpful and contacted another Paradore on our behalf, where we had left our IPad charger. Fernando Macho gets our vote as employer of the year.

Situated in the Plaza Mayor, the building has the wow factor from the outside and it gets even better inside. This is the most deluxe Parador I stayed in. Huge, luxurious rooms - ours had two balconies over looking the picturesque square- beautifully decorated. We had a pre dinner drink in the spectacular lobby and then a fantastic dinner in the traditional restaurant. Amazing place, felt like royalty.

Parador de Lerma

Rather than drive to Santillana del Mar in one day, we decided to stop in Lerma for two nights. The Parador de Lerma, a 17th century ducal palace, sits prominently on the main square (Plaza Mayor) of Lerma. The palace is both magnificent on the outside and the inside.

The front desk staff was very pleasant and helpful. We stayed on a Tuesday night and on Wednesday mornings there is a market on the square so no parking is allowed outside the parador. The underground parking garage has at daily 15Eu fee and the girl at the desk told us that since we had joined the Amigos Program in Madrid, the daily parking fee was waived. We would not have known about the benefit of the program if she had not told us.

Before we were shown to our room, the girl at reception asked us whether we would be interested instead in a tower room. While we were not interested, we took at look at the room. The main bedroom was very nice. In addition, in the tower there was an extra bedroom with bathroom that you reach via a very long circular staircase. While the views were nice, between the initial walk just to reach the room and then the walk up the circular staircase to the tower room this would be your fitness center.

Walking from reception to the elevators towards the back of the building, you pass a large interior courtyard surrounded by Tuscan columned arcades. As you walk along the courtyard there is a large medieval manuscript in a glass case on one side and a large medieval wooden carving on the other side. The courtyard is used as a central place to sit and relax/ work (the WIFI is good) and also where you can order light food and/or drinks.

We had a very large balconied room facing out on the central square. Of the three paradors we stayed at during our trip, this room was the largest and nicest. The bathroom was also very large. Since there were three of us, we especially appreciated being able to move around the room with ease. WIFI is free at the parador but we did not get reception in our room and either had to go outside the room and sit in a little alcove near our room or go downstairs to the courtyard.

Our first night we ate dinner at the parador inside a room resembling a wine cellar. Even with a prix-fixe menu, dinner with the additional cost of bottled water and wine was expensive. The food was very good but the service was slow. (Also, each parador serves dishes which are specialties of the region.) We also had breakfasts at the parador and again they were good but very expensive.

There are many cafes and bars near or on the square and you can easily find a place to get sandwiches, lunches or dinner. We picked up sandwiches to bring back to our room the second night at the Asador de Lerma (across the square from the parador) so we could watch the Euro cup. The restaurant also serves lunches and dinners. There was a store nearby selling bottled water and soda. It was hit or miss as to whether we would find the store open because when it was actually open or closed bore no resemblance to the schedule posted on the door.

The Wednesday market was a novelty for us and something that we do not see in the states. People come to the market to buy clothes, food, leather goods, etc. The town itself is like a walk back in time with its winding narrow streets and old stone houses.

Borgas is nearby with some other small towns of interest within driving distance.

We had a lovely 2 night stay in the Parador de Lerma.

The building is fantastic and we chose to upgrade to a corner room on the 4th floor with 2 large balconies. This was great for enjoying the morning and evening atmosphere of Lerma.

We have stayed in many parador and whilst the experience is great it feels like a chain on the decline. maybe the state owned group is tightening the purse strings. Breakfast isn't what it used to be and some of the decor needs improvement. There is a fine line between old, characterful and out of date. It's a competitive world out there and the Parador for me is losing it's sparkle.

Still a perfectly good hotel, great location and enjoyable stay. No complaints.

Room Tip: Room 420 has a fantastic corner aspect to enjoy reading your book on the balcony, sun streaming in w...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The amazing ducal palace at Lerma, now a Parador, is located in the upper part of the city. The hotel features a central courtyard surrounded by lovely columned galleries. The elegant majesty of this palace from the era of the Hapsburgs and its lovely interiors, with beautifully designed lighting and decor, will make your stay an unforgettable experience. The Plaza Mayor (Main Square) is opposite the main facade of the palace. At night, the lights of the Parador make it look even more magnificent and stately. The medieval quarter, Arch, Carcel Bridge, San Blas Convent, Santo Domingo Monastery, Pasadizo del Duque (Duke's Passage) and former collegiate church of San Pedro are just some of the treasures you won't want to miss. The area around Lerma is well worth a visit. 22 Kilometers away is Covarrubias, a lovely village where San Cosme y San Damian Collegiate Church and Dona Sancha and Dona Urraca squares invite travelers to enjoy a leisurely visit, imagining that time has stood still in the Middle Ages and that little has changed since the year 987, when Count Fernan Gonzalez founded the town. About half an hour away by car is another treasure: the Monastery of Santo Domingo de Silos, a Romanesque jewel which has become a place of spiritual and artistic pilgrimage. It is also not far to beautiful Aranda de Duero, city of wine, monuments, history and culinary expertise. ... more   less
