Just got back from our first, but hopefully not last, trip to MoBay. This was my family group reunion with 18 people from 14 months to 80 years old. An unbelievable experience was had by all and I would like to share it with you.
Although rooms were not ready when we arrived at 2pm, check in was fast and efficient and the "dirty banana" was a great welcome. After eating lunch at the buffet, our rooms were ready.
ROOMS - Although we requested pool view/high floor, the hotel was apparently booked so we were on the ground and first level but on the pool side. The "floors" are confusing initially. The ground level is 0 floor, second level is the first floor, third level is the second floor (and lobby entrance) etc. That took a while to get used to. The building closest to Ruby's restaurant and the Beach hotel side is bldg. 3 (we were in that side) and the building closest to the Grand is building 4. On the pool view side in bldg. 3, the rooms with the higher number are nearer the beach and lower nearer the lobby. so 30 is nearest the beach facing the pool, then 31 and a few others face beach and then 40's and up face Aunt Ruby's and Beach hotel with those higher numbers (like 55) closer to lobby again. Rooms were spacious but on the dark side - could definitely use brighter lights. Careful of the step down to the sitting area. Mirrors could be placed better - even after a week I was still going to the tv over the dresser to do my hair and makeup lol. Bathroom amenities should also include conditioner though. This is probably the first resort that we have been to that did not supply it and of course I did not pack it this time around!
FOOD/DRINKS - Definitely a variety of restaurants. Since we were a relatively large group I was concerned about seating arrangements. Thanks to ANDREW WRIGHT, we had our 4 pre booked nights with seating at one long table. THANK YOU!! Our other nights and breakfasts (thank you ROSE ANN our waitress) went equally well with seating. Loved the Calabash food and our waitress LESLEY ANN who also waited on us some mornings! Maria Bonita's (Mexican) a la carte appetizers were really good - entrée menu was a bit repetitive esp since there was no lobster - but our waiter GODFREY was amazing. He went out of his way to help make a birthday dinner very special. We requested to have him again the second time we ate there. We also ate at Ruby's steak house -mmmm good and the Japanese which was good and fun as usual. However, some of the staff there were a bit rude throughout dinner and then rushed us at the end so the next group could be seated. Definitely understand that others are eating after us, however there is a polite way to ask to please finish dessert and leave. I have to admit though, this is the ONLY time during the entire week that that occurred. Perhaps it was because it was not the suites - ALL the staff at the suites were ALWAYS extremely cordial, friendly, polite and helpful. Our beach waitress LACY was absolutely terrific everyday - remembering what we all were drinking and never left us thirsty even when she was working the entire beach by herself! What a terrific, warm individual! When LACY wasn't bringing us drinks at the beach, CHRIS was making sure we were not empty handed at the swim up bar! He too knew what our favorites were but always was ready to make something special!
ENTERTAINMENT/ACTIVITIES - Even when not running an activity or performing on stage the STAR crew was exceptional - not only in skill - but their personalities were outstanding! I have to admit we have been at many all inclusives in the Caribbean and we never interact with the entertainers at all and never take part in their "cheesy/touristy" activities and shows. WELL let me tell you that this group was so much fun to be around - they truly made you feel welcome because you could tell they loved their "job" of dealing with the guests not only with their scheduled activities but even on a personal level. Many days one or more of them sat with us, even ate with us and talked about their lives and their island at OUR request. Our family group especially connected with MO-MO, SWEETNESS, CHINA and OMG. We will really NEVER forget them and all the fun we had with them. STING RAE did a great job hosting most of the programs. The nightly shows (9:30) were entertaining. We personally especially liked the ones that the STAR PLAYERS were in. What great dancers they all are and MO MO is also phenomonal gymnast. All their energy was never ending but his level was especially remarkable.
The SNORKELING was awesome - one of the best right off shore snorkeling spots next to Grand Cayman. Many varieties of fish in the rock area inside the roped area. The rocks are located between the Suites and Aunt Ruby's Restaurant. You can either swim along the buoyed ropes from in front of infinity pool toward Aunt Ruby's or walk the beach and enter the water before Ruby's - almost in line with the end of the Suites building by the grass side. There are also plenty of kayaks for guests use and quite a few small wind catamarans. NO jet skis or banana boats available on the property though.
There is a small casino with your normal slot machines as well as multi game slots with poker, black jack, keno etc. The "younger set" enjoyed the disco which is open from 11pm to 3pm every night. They especially enjoyed Friday night when the Star Players joined them after work.
Not only the rooms, but the entire property was very clean. There were always people working around the property.
I guess you can tell I would highly recommend this hotel to all age groups. This trip proved to us how beautiful the people of the beautiful island of Jamaica are. If I missed anything that you want to know just ask!! I hope I remembered everyone that needed to be personally named. Thank you all for a memorable family reunion and hopefully we can return to your wonderful resort again.
