We didn't love our arrival. Our plane got in quite early in the day and our room was not yet ready - ok, there are never any promises on this. But the front desk staff did not make any effort to move things along for us. We returned to the desk a few times over the course of the day and asked about our room only to be told "come back at 3". At 3 they first sent us to the wrong room, but quickly corrected the problem. This was really our only significant complaint all week.
The resort is beautiful. The infinity pool has a beautiful effect (though the water is a bit cool), the lazy river winds through the property (though doesn't have much of a current...it is very, very lazy :) ), and the beach is lovely. The sand is not pristine white, but very nice. There are lots of palapas (though you need to put towels out early for a good spot), and it was always easier to find a seat at the beach than at the pool.
The rooms were very comfortable, and my family found the beds particularly comfortable. There was a lot of space for our stuff, and we loved the view from the balcony.
The food -- this was definitely a highlight! Though we were disappointed not to be able to have more than 4 a la carte dinners (this is the most they guarantee) and were unable to get a reservation at the Japanese steakhouse, we never had a bad meal. The breakfast buffet was delicious, the lunch at the beach grill, the beach BBQ, and main restaurant were all yummy, and we completely enjoyed the dinners, too. Here's our favourite thing about each a la carte: the chocolate dessert at the Gourmet, the decor and appetizer bar of the Mediterranean, the outdoor dining of the steakhouse, and appetizer bar and many of the main courses at the Mexican. (My daughter says to let you know that the smoked salmon there does not taste the same as smoked salmon at home; she was disappointed) But there was definitely something for everyone everywhere, and the Jamaican specialties were fun to try.
Probably what we missed most while we were there was the ability to walk around. Everything is designed so as to be close together, so it's really easy to meet up if you split up, to get to things quickly and to move from one thing to the next. But if you want to take a walk after dinner, this isn't the place to go. Even getting back to your room won't take more than three minutes.
In spite of the few negatives I've mentioned here, we would definitely recommend this resort. We've been to a number in Mexico (Mayan Riviera), Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Turks & Caicos and Cuba, and this one definitely measures up. Unfortunately our last two trip were to the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo in Mexico, and that one is about as good as it gets! It spoiled us for anywhere else!
We completely enjoyed the scenery and the people in Jamaica, and look forward to returning some day. And we will be happy to stick with Iberostar that has yet to let us down.
