“Great compact resort!”
Reviewed March 25, 2012

We didn't love our arrival. Our plane got in quite early in the day and our room was not yet ready - ok, there are never any promises on this. But the front desk staff did not make any effort to move things along for us. We returned to the desk a few times over the course of the day and asked about our room only to be told "come back at 3". At 3 they first sent us to the wrong room, but quickly corrected the problem. This was really our only significant complaint all week.

The resort is beautiful. The infinity pool has a beautiful effect (though the water is a bit cool), the lazy river winds through the property (though doesn't have much of a current...it is very, very lazy :) ), and the beach is lovely. The sand is not pristine white, but very nice. There are lots of palapas (though you need to put towels out early for a good spot), and it was always easier to find a seat at the beach than at the pool.

The rooms were very comfortable, and my family found the beds particularly comfortable. There was a lot of space for our stuff, and we loved the view from the balcony.

The food -- this was definitely a highlight! Though we were disappointed not to be able to have more than 4 a la carte dinners (this is the most they guarantee) and were unable to get a reservation at the Japanese steakhouse, we never had a bad meal. The breakfast buffet was delicious, the lunch at the beach grill, the beach BBQ, and main restaurant were all yummy, and we completely enjoyed the dinners, too. Here's our favourite thing about each a la carte: the chocolate dessert at the Gourmet, the decor and appetizer bar of the Mediterranean, the outdoor dining of the steakhouse, and appetizer bar and many of the main courses at the Mexican. (My daughter says to let you know that the smoked salmon there does not taste the same as smoked salmon at home; she was disappointed) But there was definitely something for everyone everywhere, and the Jamaican specialties were fun to try.

Probably what we missed most while we were there was the ability to walk around. Everything is designed so as to be close together, so it's really easy to meet up if you split up, to get to things quickly and to move from one thing to the next. But if you want to take a walk after dinner, this isn't the place to go. Even getting back to your room won't take more than three minutes.

In spite of the few negatives I've mentioned here, we would definitely recommend this resort. We've been to a number in Mexico (Mayan Riviera), Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Turks & Caicos and Cuba, and this one definitely measures up. Unfortunately our last two trip were to the Iberostar Paraiso Lindo in Mexico, and that one is about as good as it gets! It spoiled us for anywhere else!

We completely enjoyed the scenery and the people in Jamaica, and look forward to returning some day. And we will be happy to stick with Iberostar that has yet to let us down.

Room Tip: There are four floors of rooms, none very far from anything. Top floors tend to be quieter. We wer...

Dear guest,

Thank you so very much for taking time out of your busy schedule to share your comments and feedback on this website for us and other travelers to view. We sincerely appreciate all your remarks and especially those about our resort’s lavish accommodations, appetizing food from our many restaurants, amazing infinity pool, immaculate beach and the genuine friendliness and hospitality of the Jamaican people. I would however like to point out that you can in fact make more than 4 reservations to the al a carte restaurants; once you have made all your guaranteed reservations, you simply need to stop by the Guest Services desk located in our lobby between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm on the same day which you do not have a reservation to check the availability.

I would also like to remind you for your next visit that guests of the Suites Resort are allowed access to the Beach Resort so you may also explore there as well if you would like to enjoy a longer walk around our property. All in all though it seems as if you and your family really enjoyed your vacation with us and we sincerely hope that we will once again have the opportunity to welcome you to our resort as it was indeed a pleasure to have served you.

The Iberostar Rose Hall Suite is part of a complex comprised of three hotels: The Grand Rose Hall, the Rose Hall Suites, and the Rose Hall Beach. Apparently, the resort is the second largest in Jamaica. We had a great time there, the rooms are very nice and comfortable, very clean, and well maintained. The food is excellent. We went to restaurants "à la carte" for 6 nights (out of 7). We were entitled 4 reservations, but when you make your reservation in the morning of the same day, it does not count for your total. I would recommend the Gourmet restaurant, as well as the Japanese (located at the Rose Hall Beach). Wine was very acceptable, especially the red (San Mauricio).

The beach is great, and you can snorkel very easily around three reefs only about 20 m from the beach. Lots of fish. Even saw a barracuda!. Great tennis courts, but for the real players, you should bring your own racket.

All in all, a great stay that I would recommend without hesitation.

We stayed here for a week in March during our spring break, The Resort is one of the best in the area, we went with two young kids hence we choose all inclusive option, the food basically sucked for vegetarian, However after giving specific recipes to the guest service they were able to accommodate us for dinner, their chef made excellent effort to prepare vegetarian meals. For lunch and breakfast they have same food almost everyday, deserts, juice everything is pretty much same in buffet.
We enjoyed their Tennis courts, the pro there is really good, they offer beginners and advance lessons there almost everyday. Nightly entertainment was nice as well.
Rooms are nice, Internet access sucked, forget about using internet, your phones will not work there. They do have Wii-Fi which only works in lobby area. I would highly suggest families take walkie- talkies if going to this resort with larger group, will save you lot of walking and searching.
Excursion:- Only thing worth doing is Dunns Water fall and Mystic River. We heard a lot about Luminous Lagoon, was waste of time and money, Also Chukka River Tubing was a waste of day.

Overall nice Resort, If you are vegetarian be prepared to eat same pasta or sandwich everyday for lunch and breakfast.

Dear guest,

Thank you for choosing to be our valued guests here at Iberostar Rose Hall Suites and also for taking time out of your schedule to share your review about your recent visit with us in March. We are especially glad to hear that despite your initial opinion of our food, our guest services department was able to assist you as well as the chefs could accommodate your special requests for some vegetarian options; we regret to hear that you did not enjoy the wide variety of the fresh fruit station we have during breakfast and lunch, or the health station that we have for breakfast in front of the natural juices. Even if we do have a great variety of choices at our buffets for the different meals, I’m sure the chefs will revise the vegetarian options to make sure we have a greater variety that satisfy a wider range of vegetarians.
We are very happy to hear as well of your enjoyment and satisfaction with our tennis courts with knowledgeable pros and our vivacious nightly entertainment which I’m sure kept you amused each and every night. Again, thank you for your preference in choosing Iberostar Rose Hall Suites and trust that you will not hesitate to return in the near future as it was indeed a pleasure to have hosted you at our lovely resort.

We visited the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites - Jamaica the week of March 12. We travelled as a family - with two kids ages 13 and 9. This is the 6th Iberostar property we've been to and we continue to seek out Iberostar resorts because we've had great experiences in all of them - from Varadero to Punta Cana to the Mayan Riviera. The resort acknowledged our repeat business by granting our request for a room on the top floor and they gave us some gift goodies as well.

The Iberostar Rose Hall Suites was not the grandest of Iberostar properties (the Iberostar Maya in the Mayan Riveria still has the most amazing propery I've seen), nor did it have the best beach - nonetheless our overall experience at the Rose Hall suites was amazing for the following reasons:

1. Great Restaurants
For a one week stay - you are allowed 4 a la carte reservations. Tip - reserve all 4 as soon as you check into the hotel. We ate at Ruby's steakhouse (suggest the Flank/Skirt steak), the Mexican, the Mediterranean (suggest the surf and turf - the meat was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife) and the Japanese. All were great. The buffets are also good -but we prefer the leisurely pace of an a la carte meal. Tip - the buffet restaurant at the Rose Hall Beach has an outdoor area which makes for a nicer ambience.

2. Great Entertainment
The star friends at the Suites are truly awesome with names like Happy Feet, VIP, Skittles, Momo and OMG. They are in great shape and the best shows were those that featured them showing off their dance moves. The beach party is not to be missed - we got to dance on the beach under the stars. Does it get any better?

3. Decent Gym - Even Had Spinning Classes and A Terrifiic Spa
There was a spinning class at 11am with actual spinning instuctors that they bring in. Our instructor for the week was from Windsor Ontario. Tip - there is a great spa area where the gym is located with a wellness pool and two sets of other spas - including roman baths, whirlpools, and sauna. Make sure you try these out. Also - the beach aerobics at Noon is actually a decent workout, alot of fun and attracts alot of participants.

4. Snorkelling Off the Beach
There is a man made reef extending almost the width of the beach. The dive centre to get snorkelling gear is at the other end of Rose Hall Beach. We got into the habit of having lunch at Uncle Tony's - the outdoor beach restaurant at Rose Hall Beach and then signing out the snorkelling equipment at the dive centre for our 1 hour afternoon snorkel. It's great to be able to see a variety of marine life just a few feet from shore. Also - the water is the nice and warm.

Other Tips:
1. Bring conditioner - for some reason this resort does not provide it
2. The cigar lounge bar by the pool table room was never busy so a great place to get a drink
3. Souvenir shopping - the resort was just too nice to leave - so we shopped for souvenirs at the Montego airport which had alot of shops and a couple of nice sit down restaurants as well
4. If you want to be by the pool - suggest you reserve your loungers with the beach towels early in the morning. Loungers at the beach were plentiful.
5. Request a room on the top floor for a great view.

Other Comments:
We did find the it quite windy most days - especially on the beach. I talked to someone who who's been to the resort 3 other times and the weather was not typical. The wind would die down by evening and the nights were clear and beautiful.

Bottom Line:
We had an amazing time. Jamaica is great fun and I would definitely recommend the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites. I'm hoping to have the chance to go back again.

Room Tip: Request a room on the top floor for a better view.

I spent a lot of time researching where we were going to take this year's family vacation. We wanted all-inclusive for ease, bedrooms that were large enough to accommodate our 3 children, excellent food, and - most importantly - an amazing kids club so that the kids could have a great time while we enjoyed grown up time.

The reviews of this place are so almost universally stellar, it seemed a no-brainer that this is where we would go. After having spent a week there, however, I have to wonder who on earth is writing these reviews???

We traveled on March 8th, 2012. First issue is that the airlines issue an immigration form on the flight, saying that only ONE PER FAMILY is required. After waiting in line at immigration in Montego Bay (not too bad, fairly organized), we were told by an immigration official that EACH family member needs their own form. She was as annoyed as we were, as she said it's a problem with every single traveler and the airlines do nothing about it. It probably took us an extra 10-15 minutes to complete the forms, which we could have easily done in line had we known. Also, there is apparently a "special" line for families with small children - at the far right of the immigration area. It is not marked and no official person told us, rather some locals told us and lo and behold, they were right.

We opted for the included transport to Rose Hall Suites. We were lucky in that a shuttle was just about ready to leave when we arrived, so we didn't have to wait around for a long time as some of the earlier arrivers had to. There were 8 of us in our party, and though the shuttle appeared to be full, the driver insisted there was room and had us get on. Well, there WAS room, as long as we were willing to hold two of our children in our laps. :/ Drive was uneventful and fairly quick.

Upon entering the grand reception area of Rose Hall Suites, there is a smell of mildew or some strong odor. Perhaps it's common in tropical areas due to the constant moisture, but the smell was unpleasant. I was looking forward to the welcome drink while we checked in, but despite there being several dirty glasses on the reception counter, it was about 10 minutes before anyone came around with a drink for us. Luckily, the lobby bar is across from reception so we just grabbed our own drinks. Despite what other reviewers have said, we found the reception staff to be pleasant.

We were shown to our ocean-front rooms, 3029, 3030, and 3031. Despite the numbers, these rooms are actually located on the ground floor. Other reviewers have mentioned requesting higher floors for an ocean view, but our view was just perfect from the ground floor.

The rooms were very nice, spacious, updated and clean. The tub was phenomenal! Large enough for two or more, deep, and luxurious. The shower stall was the opposite - the tiling was grimy and dank and just not very nice.

We grabbed some lounge chairs by the pool and hung out for a while. The infinity pool is very pretty and large, with a swim up bar that is covered so it is totally shaded. This is a negative, as between the shade and the very cold pool water, it was not comfortable to sit at the pool bar. Also, there is very little wait staff wandering around the pool area, so be prepared to swim up to the pool bar, or wait in line at the little bar next to the pool if you want a drink.

Around 3 or 4 pm, the staff puts on an activity - dancing or whatnot - by the pool. It is VERY LOUD. Very reminiscent of Cancun spring break kind of thing. People seems to enjoy it, but not what I'm looking for in a supposed 4 or 5 star location.

Speaking of the staff, I found the staff to be very unfriendly and not engaging at all. The women at the towel stand seemed put out every time you asked for a towel or your card back. The bartenders seemed pained to give a smile. The absolute worst was Sean who ran the parasailing boat. He grunted orders and was visibly and vocally annoyed if you didn't automatically know how to put on a parasailing harness. HORRIBLE. There was no particular worker that stood out for welcoming behavior, as they all seemed to wish they were elsewhere and that they didn't have to bother with you.

The kids camp was an absolute disaster. When we travel with our children (ages 7, 5, and 4) we make sure there is a kids program. This way Mom and Dad get a vacation as well. It is CRUCIAL to our idea of a vacation. On the second day, we went over to the kids camp building. There was a very cool, large pirate ship/waterslide structure that the kids loved. It was right next to the camp. However, as they informed us, it was not "part" of the camp. Parents needed to accompany their kids on the ship. Ok.....so we go to check the kids into the camp. There is one woman running it and no other kids there. There are some chairs, some games, and an outdoor play structure. We mentioned that we would like them to take the kids to lunch. This was clearly not on her agenda for the day, as she asked us at least 3 times in 5 minutes if we were sure that we didn't want to pick them up for lunch ourselves. We left and enjoyed some adult time at the beach. When we went back to check on the kids, they were sitting in a dark room watching a movie. It was 85 degrees and sunny and they are stuck inside watching a movie???? I was furious. I asked about activities, etc. The woman informed me that they do an activity at 3:30. So kids camp is open from 10 a.m. until 5 pm but there are no activities planned until 3:30 in the afternoon? Needless to say, we didn't make the kids go back there, and it was very clear why there were no other kids there at all. We did have them show up one day for the 3:30 activity, which consisted of a group of kids each taking a turn trying to putt a golf ball into a roll up golf green. Beyond LAME. Even if you are willing to have your kids sit in a dark room all day doing nothing, the fact that they don't even open until 10 am means that you can't take a tennis lesson (8 am) or do any of the other earlier morning activities. I have been to several other resorts with kids camps, and this place clearly needs to take some lessons from other facilities. I cannot express enough how disappointed I was in this so-called kids camp. It literally ruined any chance my husband and I had of alone time.

If you go to this resort, be prepared to fight for a pool lounger. Despite posted signs saying that lounge chairs cannot be reserved, EVERY SINGLE lounger was taken (towel and/or other personal affects on it) by 7 a.m. After several days of trying to follow the rules, we gave up and went out at 6 am to reserve some loungers of our own. Eat or be eaten, I suppose. Often times we would go to breakfast and see a group of chairs reserved and then not see a single person in the chair the entire day.

The food was so-so. It seemed to get better as the week went on, but perhaps our standards just lowered by the end of the week. The buffet had nice variety, but needed more labels for the various items. We found ourselves constantly comparing the buffet to the one at Club Med, which is really much more high end and well-labeled. The jerk chicken consisted of overgrilled chicken breasts or roast chicken (good) parts that you could ladle jerk sauce over. Total disappointment - would never have expected to have better jerk chicken in Turks & Caicos (Beaches) than in Jamaica, but there you go.

As for the ala carte restaurants, we ate at the gourmet, the mexican, aunt ruby's steak house, and the japanese. We made our reservations the first day and didn't have much trouble getting in. The japanese is the hardest to get into. The mexican was tasty, aunt ruby's steak was nice - we ate outside. The steaks were completely overdone, however, which would not happen in a "fine" steakhouse. The gourmet was fancy, with small portions and decent food. I mentioned it was my father's birthday and they made a beautiful dessert for him and sang, which I thought was exceptionally nice. The Japanese was a lot of fun and pretty tasty, though not as good as your standard Benihana in the US. Definitely recommend just for the show of it, though.

All in all, this trip was a big disappointment, mainly because of the lack of an effective kids camp, the mediocre food and the unpleasant staff. I would definitely not return here, nor would I recommend it. I stayed at the Ritz Carlton down the road several years ago and the experience was amazing. Even as far as all-inclusive resorts go, which tend to be generic by nature, this place didn't compare to Club Med or Beaches.

Of course, we still managed to have a good time. Some pros: Beautiful infinity pool; great room with an excellent location (right next to the pool and beach); gorgeous landscaping and very clean; lovely terrace sitting area outside the lobby bar (where my husband and I would have spent a lot of time if we had been able to put the kids in camp); awesome spa amenities - we didn't partake in any spa treatments, but there are saunas, hot tubs, pools, etc in the spa area that are free to use. These were super nice, although the steam room wasn't working. Very high end and we had it all to ourselves!

Room Tip: We loved our ocean front rooms. Right next to the pool and beach. The only downside is that being...

What a wonderful holiday!

We traveled to Montego Bay Rose Hall Suits Jamaica; February 18th to the 25th has been my favorite holiday so far! We traveled as a family with our teenage daughter!
We got to the Montego Bay Airport late Saturday night after long flights and many delays. We arrived there was about at 2 and ½ hour custom wait, which took forever! There has been about 3 other full plains arrive just before us and 2 after us! After we got our luggage we found our Air Canada rep and was escorted to our bus witch then left shortly after to our hotel. One we got there it was paradise, too bad we got there in the dark. We checked in and since we were quite late the polite young lady and the desk gave us a upgrade to a Junior Family Suit just beside the lobby on the 4th floor! The room was wonderful! We had an extra room with a king bed that over looked the ocean! The patio was nice, great views, ok beds, very clean, big bathroom with a big tub and shower, double sinks, and big closet, in room safe, and storage space to unpack! The only really downside we has was that night when we got there, there was no places open to eat, so after we explored a bit, be decide to order room service at about 11:30 ish. It was a really long wait and after about an hour we called back down and they said that it had been delivered but must of went to the wrong room, and would make another one soon. They finally came up about 2:30 am! We were very tired and never ate all day, it was very good but hard to enjoy at that hour of the night! The next morning we enjoyed the day around the hotel, very nice beach and pool area, always an open spot on beach, but very hard to find by pool. We ate at the Mediterranean, Gourmet, Japanese, the Steak house, and the buffet, the food was great and the drinks were wonderful. I would recommend there burgers, and wings! TO DIE FOR! The servers and staff were always nice and willing to help! We did leave the resort a few times, like the Catamaran tour to Margareta Ville and snorkeling, at shopping tour to the hip strip, a little tour all over MO Bay, and to markets, and on the last day to Mystic Mountain! The tours were awesome and the quid’s deserve 2 thumbs up! We also went to the Rose Hall Shopping mall! I would recommend getting most of your stuff at the airport! Fair prices, duty free, and large choices.

At the hotel, it was very clean, people working 24/7, the maids cleaned up the room 3 times a day, and re stocked the fridge every day! On our last day we had almost the full day to enjoy but had to check out of our room, they stored our luggage safely until we left, and gave us a room with bathrooms and showers to clean up in. The lazy river was lazy, very slow but enjoyable, and pool was overly clean until a child pooped in the pool the last day. The ocean was very calm, pretty blue, and clear, so easy to snorkel and see lots of fish (and few baby stingrays) and often starfish. If you go to the dock by the beaches you can feed the fish take along banana, bread, bacon or whatever and there will be millions that would come! And in the lobby they had wifi also, that was good to catch up with things back home. There is a few men who walk around with cameras so you can always get you picture taken, really nice for family photos. Also we took in getting hair braids by a nice lady by the pool area who would do it at any time. Make sure to go to the night shows, they were awesome, and take part in the games by the pool, beach, dancing, and aerobics lead by the boys ;)
One thing I would suggest is for the Star Friends to get to know other people more, a few people noticed how they would spend time with this one larger family there the same time, and got lots of attention, and the guests would require them to drop everything and cater to them. I know it’s hard to do but they all did really good to cater to most needs and wants.
The star friends deserve so much; they truly made our hotel more enjoyable! Shout out to Zena, OMG, Sting Ray, and Happy Feet, who made a special connection with our teenager and our family for the week and Krazy Kenny, MOMO, KIKI, and VIP. They always got our teenager up dancing and included in things. Every night at the night shows (which you cannot miss!!!) they came over to say hi and talk about different things! OMG, Zena and Happy Feet were like our family, and remembered our daughter’s name! You truly havent seen dancing until you see the people who work at this hotel!
Dont Worry Be Happy! One Love, One heart, Lets get together and it will be all right!! :)
The people are all truly amazing everywhere here!
I would highly recommend this hotel! Had a wonderful time, and was way beyond our expectations! And our Daughter wants to go back tomorrow!! Very sad to leave!

Room Tip: Try to get on 3rd or 4th floor, more of a view! (The family Suit was A+)

Dear guest,

I would like to start by extending our sincerest appreciations for choosing Iberostar Rose Hall Suites to host your family vacation and also for taking the time to share your review on this website. As a hotel, we are always looking for ways to improve on our already superb services and facilities to better satisfy our guests and we are very much appreciative for all your comments and suggestion and will be sure to take them into consideration.

We are truly delighted by your specific mention about our resort’s spacious and luxurious suites, pristine beach and infinity pool, scrumptious dining options with quality food, lively entertainment and most importantly your reference to the genuine hospitality and friendliness of our staff and especially our enthusiastic Star Friends Team; we do realize that we are very fortunate to have such a dedicated body of staff.

We will ensure that all the persons you pointed out receive your kind words of praise. It is also good to know that you set aside some time to enjoy some tours off property and were able to experience other aspects of Jamaica as it definitely has a lot to offer. With that being said, I would however like to point out that we do in fact have the Mexican restaurant which is open for late night snacks from 11:00 pm until 7:00 am and we apologize if this was not made clear to you. Overall though, it seems like you had a fabulous time at our resort and we certainly look forward to welcoming you again as it was our pleasure to have served you.

We stayed here in February 2011. It was wonderful. The property was clean. The rooms were excellent, big and well maintained. The patio/deck areas were huge. The cleaning staff was quick and efficient, as was the mini-bar attendant. The star friends are hilarious and entertaining, never overbearing or annoying at all. The wellness spa is amazing, I dream about it often, with the various tubs, spas, saunas, and showers. There was tons of stuff to do, day or night. But, if you want to sleep, the rooms are quiet and relaxing.

The food was average, about the same as any other all inclusive. We do not go in expecting much, so we are usually not disappointed by the food.

In 2012, we paid twice as much for a resort we we half as happy with. I would without a doubt, stay at an Iberostar again. We had a wonderful time and were sad to leave.
