My wife and I just returned from a visit to the Iberostar resorts in Rose Hall Jamaica. Our fifth annual trip to this beautiful and friendly country. We never stayed in the Rose Hall or Montego Bay area. Our previous trips had been twice to Breezes Runaway Bay and twice to Riu Palace in Negril We were supposed to be booked at the suites but were pleasantly surprised when were told that we had been upgraded to the Iberostar Grand. I had contacted them in advance to inform them that we were returning to Jamaica again after being married there in 2007 and had selected their resort for this trip. The upgade was amazing as the Grande is by far the nicest of the three resorts at this property. We were floored when we were told we had a "butler." This was the kind of service that we had yet to experience in Jamaica. Frankly, we felt that the butler thing was somewhat overrated as we didn't take full advantage of it. Although the service was very good at this upscale resort. Our room (5414) was amazing with a spacious balcony and lovely views of the pool, ocean. beach and resort. The room was comfortable with a jacuzzi in the bathroom. The room also had a stocked fridge. We tried two ala carte restaurants. The Japanese and Surf and Turf. Both were very good. As always the chefs at the Japanese was quite entertaining. The food was good at both. Overall, the food was your typical all-inclusive fare with a large variety to choose from. Our only disappointment was the beach. There was alot of seaweed in the surf and on the beach. It was rather messy and the sand was coarse. Nothing like the beaches we experienced in Negril. While we certainly enjoyed the upgrade and stay at this upscale resort, chances are we will return to Negril for our next trip. We found the Jamaican vibe and friendliness to be somewhat stronger on the west end of the island. Not to take anything away from the Iberostar Grand, I encourage readers of this review to experience it yourself. These resorts try their very best to please everyone and that is virtually impossible. We have found in our five years of traveling to Jamaica that it is important to keep an open mind and try to make your own judgements about a particular resort.

My husband & I stayed here the first week of December with another couple and we all felt this resort exceeded our expectations. We booked our trip thru Delta Vacations Luxury Package which included a first class flight, private transportation to the resort and a guaranteed oceanfront suite. Everything went very smoothly and we arrived at the resort less than an hour from the time we landed!

We were greeted by Peter, who took care of our luggage while we walked into the extraordinary lobby to check-in. We were given a cool towel and a mimosa to sip as they attached bracelets to our wrists which would allow us unlimited access to all three of their properties. (Although you have access to all three, guests from the Rose Hall Suites and Beach Resort cannot access the Rose Hall Grand ammenities. More than once we saw security guards stopping people who didn't have bracelets.) We were then shown to our room and within minutes our butler was at our door ready to give us a brief tour. The room was spotlessly clean and very well laid out. I really enjoyed our lanai/patio which had a spectacular view. There was a comfy sofa and a two person swing that I fell asleep in more than once. Rooms were cleaned and refrigerator restocked everyday. The attention to detail was phenomenal. Every evening our maid would provide turn down service. She'd turn off certain lights and leave others on for a restful glow, push our rugs under the bed and replace them with linen mats, fold our comforter down in a unique way with chocolates, light a candle under our coconut scented oil diffuser, lay out our slippers and bathmat near the jacuzzi tub and straighten up any untidy areas. It was always a pleasure to return to our room after dinner/show.

Butlers: Since they provide this service 24/7, we had three different ones during our stay; Ryan, Rushane and Marlon. Whatever issues we had (all minor) were attended to in a very friendly and respectful way. One night we arranged for a romantic rose petal bubble bath and champagne. Unfortunately, our butler mistakenly wrote down the wrong room number and a very surprised guest ended up with our romantic set-up. When the error was discovered, they went above and beyond to make it up to us. The following night we came back to our room to find Marlon and Rushane waiting for us. They had lined our walkway into our room with candles leading us to our jetted tub filled with bubbles and rose petals shaped into a heart. Our bed was covered in rose petals also, with a bottle of delicious champagne and white chocolate tart desserts nearby. Ryan was always on hand in the mornings, making sure he spoke with us before we started our day to see if we needed anything. We came back to our room one afternoon to find he had left us a bottle of Appleton Rum. They truly made us feel pampered.

Star Friends: We had the most interaction with Stally, Debbie and Ryan. Never did we feel harrassed by them. They made sure you knew what was going on (volleyball, horseshoes, bocce ball, bingo, water aerobics, etc.) but never pressured you to join in. They want you to enjoy yourself and if, for you, that means laying on a lounger reading a book, that's what you should do. Personally, we participated in bingo (won some bottles of rum, tshirts and hats), volleyball, horseshoes and the morning stretching/yoga class. These young people work some very long days but seem to enjoy their jobs. By the time we left, we felt like we were saying goodby to new friends.

Food/Drinks: We tried all four restaurants and enjoyed them all. Beautifully decorated, great presentation and impeccable service. We all felt the quality of the food was top notch. We also enjoyed eating at the buffet. Some items were the same each night, but there were also different ones each time. They usually followed a theme like Mexican or Italian or Jamaican night. We also used room service each morning for a pot of coffee and basket of pastries. There is a coffee maker in your room if you choose to make your own. The beach barbeque's were fun and good with the jerk chicken, pork and steak along with live reggea music. Food is always available. Breakfast buffet between 7:00-11:30, lunch buffet between 12:00-4:00, snack buffet between 4:00-6:00, dinner buffet between 6:30-10:30 plus 24 hour room service. Wow! And then there were the drinks. There wasn't any drink we asked for that they couldn't make, even an Asian Pear Martini. We enjoyed the Jamaican Smile and the Dirty Monkey while lying by the pool. The pool waitresses were always walking poolside, asking what they could get for you. Never waited more than five minutes to have a drink brought to me...heaven.

We never left the resort because we had plenty to keep us busy right there. Your all-inclusive includes any non motorized watersports such as snorkeling gear, kayaks, sailboats. They also had some snorkeling and kayaking trips you can take right from the resort that were very reasonably priced.

All four of us used the Spa for a variety of massages and were very pleased.

Pros: The staff who are genuinely committed to making sure you enjoy your stay. If you're unhappy, they take it personally and go above and beyond to make it right. We also felt very safe here, which was a big concern for one of our traveling companions.

Cons: I have only one, which is really a suggestion. To know what activities are happening each day, you have to go to the concierge's office and look at the list. The office on our floor was often closed. My suggestion is to either have a dedicated tv station that would show each day's activities and times or, as they do on cruises, slip a daily itinery under everyone's door.

Room Tip: If you're looking for privacy, the only rooms I wouldn't suggest, would be the lowest level...

We looked at a lot of all-inclusive properties and went with this one because of all the great reviews. The lobby and rooms are gorgeous but the food was just okay. We're vegetarians so maybe the meat/seafood options were better. The lunch buffet was definitely not worth the money but the Italian and Japanese restaurant were pretty good.

My wife and I stayed for the last week of November and it was 1st class from start to finish. We were greeted with champagne and orange juice on arrival and introduced to our butler (a service we have not experienced before). The Junior suite on the 3 rd floor was perfect in every way, with the well-stocked complimentary bar another feature I have not experienced before. The staff levels are the highest of any all-inclusive I have stayed (mostly Sandals) and the quality is definitely 5* for food & drink. Make sure you book the restaurants ASAP, especially if you want the early sitting (6:30 to 7:00). The Japanese restaurant was the most popular, but our favorite was the Mediterranean in the Suites resort next door. As commented by others, the beach is not the greatest, but we enjoyed swimming in the sea every day. The pool is great and the bartenders at the swim-up bar great fun, particularly Morris Day. We had two games of golf/pp included, so we played Cinnamon Hill twice, which was a very good course. All in all, this was one of the best holidays at an all-inclusive resort and we would definitely return. A minor comment - I question the need for butlers and concierges for every section, I think it is overkill. I would prefer the cost be allocated in providing a third complimentary round of golf.
