Fingle Glen Golf Hotel
Certificate of Excellence

Stayed overnight here on our way to Cornwall. Very convenient for A30. Bedroom size adequate for a stopover, shower excellent and everywhere very clean. All the white linen was crisp and the towels ' dazzling' !! The restaurant and bar facilities are fine with splendid views. Overall, the facilities provide all you need for an 'overnight', without the frills. For the price we paid, it was very good value for money and particularly enjoyable if you are comfortable with a golf club environment.

Yes, the rooms are not the largest and the bathrooms are a little on the snug side, but this hotel is fantastic value. We took 3 of the 8 rooms and paid £65 for each on a late booking site which is a lot cheaper than most of the budget chains. This price included a magnificent breakfast which would not have been included in a Travel Lodge or Premier Inn and was freshly cooked and well presented. The staff are quite young and a little disorganised but this seems to be usual for a golf club in my experience.

Room Tip: room 5 is a family room and takes 3 single beds

We stayed in one of the cabins near the golf course with the kids whilst the in-laws stayed in the hotel itself. Both were very well presented and the bedding and tiolets were exceptionally clean. The cabins are very well stocked (a bit like centre parcs) but it could have done with a dust! Cobwebs/dust everywhere! The inlaws had the same thoughts on the hotel room. Also the remote control for the telly was very selective!! You couldn't get half the channels as the buttons wouldn't work. As we have small children we didn't go far in the evenings so needed the TV for entertainment. Also the fridge "hummed" incessiantly and loudly! When we raised this at reception they didn't seem that bothered!
It would have also been nice if someone has mentioned when we booked, that the hotel was hosting a Prom event for the local college on the Friday night for 300 teenagers . It was very loud and although the disco finished at 12, the kids were still running around shouting etc in the car park at gone 1pm!!! Great start to the holiday.
We also had breakfast at the hotel. Whilst the food was very hot and tasty, the service was very, very slow and disjointed. Toast could turn up 30 mins after everything else. Seemed a little under staffed. Don't eat here unless you have time to kill (which we did!) Also we stayed 3 nights and although yogurt was on the menu, it wasn't availbe on any morning cause "they'd run out" Exeter was only 10 minutes away. Couldn't they have re-stocked! Also kippers were on the menu but I was served hot smoked mackerell fillet???
Overall, it was good enough for the price we paid and very convenient to visit local attractions.
If the Reception staff has asked if we enjoyed the stay I would have told them the above but as they didn't, I am writing it here!!!
Improve your customer relations, it doesn't cost anything!

Room Tip: Don't choose "the chestnuts" cabin, the fridge will keep you awake and the remote cont...

Stayed one night on a business trip. The room was clean and almost adequate for my needs, just a place to lay my head and eat breakfast, therein lies a problem. I had a meeting at 8.00am in Exeter, so would have to leave at 7.30am, breakfast is served from 7.30am. so missed breakfast. Very disappointed about this, partly my own fault for not asking before booking, but partly for the hotel not to give the breakfast times in their publicity. So I have to mark the value as terrible, £60 for just a room. Cannot comment on the service, as I only met two people and didn't get any, arrived at 7.30pm reception was shut had to go to the bar to find help. Obviously cannot comment on the food. Room 1 noisy (see other review), tiny TV (Laptop size), bathroom small. Would I book again, probably not.

Room Tip: Room 1 is noisy. Leave late to get breakfast

Stayed here for a weekend, to attend a wedding. We had one of the lodges. It was spacious modern, d/w and w/m fitted. Complementary tea and coffee in kitchen. The lodge was clean but in need of a spring clean, stains on carpet, shower head and shower mouldy. Crumbs in cutlery draws. beds were comfy and plenty of towels.

We ate in the bar which was not over priced, the meal for the wedding was excellent, although we were promised some gluten free bread and rolls by the manageress they never arrived.

Club house had been refurbished and looked lovely with large decked patio area over looking the course.

We were house hunting in the West Country and my husband booked this as the location and price were good for us. Oh dear. There are some self catering cabins on the site, which judging from some of the reviews I've seem must be ok. However, there are a few rooms in the golf clubhouse, which is where we stayed. Well, I say room, but it was more of a cupboard. The ensuite was the smallest I have ever seen. You couldn't bend over to clean you teeth without having the door into the room open. The shower was like a vertical coffin and you had to reverse around the handbasin to sit on the lavatory. And there was more mould in the shower than was healthy. Otherwise clean.

The golf club house is actually an enormous tin shed which heated up to make the room incredibly hot (made worse by the cleaning staff having not turned off the heated towel rail). There was a small window, but you could only open it about an inch. We roasted slowly all night.

We weren't after a luxury hotel, but this was really taking the mickey. And the minibar didn't work.

Room Tip: Don't pick room 7 - that was the one we were in. Not sure if any of the others are bigger.
