We were lucky to see the 3 day old baby turtles swimming in a small pool! And it was great to see the turtles in clean, large pools! I felt I learnt a lot too!

Projecto Tamar was very interesting and educational. At first, I was troubled by the zoo-like confinements for the turtles. Once I watched a video on the project and their overall goals (a free, 10-minute video they show on-site), I did feel a bit better about supporting this effort. They have released over 9 million turtles back into the ocean, although many do not survive. They are doing what they can to make sure the turtles are not extinct, so tourists - by nature of your admission fee - become part of this initiative. Interesting to view such large turtles up close and personal. Shark feeding was also intriguing. A good attraction for visitors to Praia do Forte in Bahia.

This was my second visit to Projecto Tamar. It is a nice diversion from town and shopping. There are several pools with turtles and some other sea life. I enjoyed my visit htere and felt good to be supporting such a good cause.

...then you have to visit the Project Tamar location. If you're at the Praia do Forte, its just a minute away; and about an hour out of the city of Salvador.

The work these volunteers have done with the turtles is fascinating and deserves to be visited.

Kids will love to get close to these animals; but adults will enjoy the visit just as much.
