A very warm welcome greeted us when we arrived at this charming house, situated in the 'bush' with views to the ocean.
Roli is a very friendly host who served tea and cake as soon as we had been shown to our very clean and comfortable room.
Breakfast included delicious muesli, made by our hosts, and eggs from their hens.
A comfortable guest lounge offered a selection of reading materials, comfortable furniture and of course- those views.

We came from Hong Kong and had a 10 day tour of the South Island. Stayed one night at The Rocks at the start of our trip. It was the best of the 8 motels/B&B we had stayed for this trip. The place is clean and comfortable. The breakfast was the best we had. Eva and Roli were not only friendly, but also provided some helpful tips on where and when to take photos around the west coast. Highly recommended.

After staying with Roli and Eva for one night in 2010, on our second trip to New Zealand in 2012
we just had to stay again, but this time for 2 nights (1 is really not enough). The Rocks is hidden in the bush close to The Tasmin Sea and offers wonderful views in a most relaxing atmosphere. Roli, Eva and now little Aaron are fantastic and natural hosts.
We wish them all the very best for the future.

We highly recomend The Rocks to those looking for a tranquil break in beautiful surrounding and superb company.

Really beatiful and sustainable house! With great views to the sea side. If you want to relax it is worth to stay longer. The owners are really friendly and helpful. It was the most incredible place I stay ever:)

Location: Not that far from the main road but you have to go down a gravel path and be careful with the bends. We were wondering if we missed it already when it appeared on the left side. It has a nice view over the woods and down to the ocean and is very quite.
Hosts: Rolly and Eva went over their head to help us. There was a terrible weather on that day (offical warning of heavy rain 140 mm in 24 hours) but nevertheless Rolly helped us with the luggage and showed us our room and we had a nice chat with him. We were served some tea and cookies while we waited to dry and all was done in a very relaxed way. He offered good advice on the restaurants (we took the tavern, see review) and when we came back from the rocks (sse review), soaked to the bones, they offered to machine dry our clothes and even put newspapers into our shoes and placed them near the fireplace. The clothings were handed back to us the next morning, dry.
Communal area. This is one big room containing a library, a small workstation, the eating area and the ktichen with glass windows all aorund, all balcony around, all wooden with a pretty nice fireplcae, a nice lounging area and all in all very comfortable. There is wine by the glass and the bottle on sale for small prices, pretty good idea for the evenings.
Breakfast: Pretty filling, with lots of fruit, cereals, rolls eggs (from their own eggs) freshly baked bread and coming from Swiss they offer a Swiss/German breakfast with cheese and cold cuts added to jam and peanut butter (the best peanut butter I ever tasted).
Room: We had a room in the upper floor which theoretically would have offered a very nice view but the weather did not allow this. The room was also bright and wooden with a nice bed, big enough for two andwith a very nice bath, big by comparison. All spotless clean and with nice reading materials.

All in all we had a wonderful stay and the hosts really went up and beyond the expected hospitality.

We spent our first night on New Zealand's West Coast at The Rocks and we had a fantastic stay. Rolly and Eva were very friendly and helpful hosts and our room was very comfortable, with unobstructed views of the sea just north of Punakaiki rocks. We chose to have breakfast (at a reasonable price) and were served a delicious and generous breakfast buffet, with fresh eggs and homemade bread. We then took a stroll to the beautiful and secluded nearby beach, which was an easy 10 minute walk from the Rocks. All-in-all, a great experience and we will recommend it to our friends.

Down a dirt road, just far enough that you think you must have missed it, is this great B&B. With a wall of windows overlooking the bush and ocean, this place exudes tranquility. We had a room on the ground floor with our own private sunroom. Roli will make dinner if you wish ( which I recommend since the selection of restaurants in the area is sparse, and it's a great way to meet your fellow travellers!).
