“Sand surf, sun and steps almost to the beach, strewn with driftwood and romance”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We needed a day off in our hectic schedule..... what better, then a modern beach house which blends well with the dynamic coast. The front steps almost reach the beach, where driftwood, flax, sand and surf offered us romantic walks and swims. The constant roar from the ocean is pure heaven. their restaurant and bar made leaving hard. great place with superb hosts.

Really enjoyed staying in the Eco Suite, such a wonderful sunset, followed by dinner in the Restaurant. Lived up to my expectations. Casual friendly service, and the heating system kept the room warm all night.

Room Tip: I thought the Eco suite was lovely, and well worthwhile. I had no problem with it being across the r...

As the other half of a couple staying on the romance package we travelled the transalpine and then hired a car to get to the resort. We have stayed there several times before and agree with other comments about the rooms being clean and comfortable. The heating was on and it was easy to adjust the temperature to suit your own level of comfort. The bottle of bubbles was Special Reserve and not ordinary sparkling wine so that was a really nice gesture as was providing the flutes to go with the wine. The evening meal was lovely - the only small complaint I have was that my main course was a little too large - but I'd rather it was that way than the reverse. Our only complaint was breakfast the following morning. We decided to have a cooked breakfast and it took almost an hour before we got it. The restaurant wasn't busy and there was no apology from the staff for the delay, which wasn't the type of service we expected from the Resort. Having said that - the staff were friendly and welcoming and we received the rooms specifically requested and we were impressed that the Receptionist asked if the rooms were the right ones. Overall a good stay - just one or two tweaks would make it a fantastic stay.

Room Tip: Upstairs 108 -112 are the most modern and best value rooms for both price and views.

We stayed for 2 nights as a mid winter break, catching the transalpine from CHCH and hiring a car. As we went with friends they knew which rooms to book (rooms 105-109 are upstairs nearest the driveway). The rooms were clean and well furnished. The bed was comfy with the typical duvet/white sheets/ throw on the end of the bed, that are so typical now days.
The lady at reception was very welcoming and asked about our trip. We had booked a special "romance package" which included a bottle of bubbles (Lindaur Special reserve which was waiting in an ice bucket in our room with 2 champagne glasses), a 2 course meal in the restaurant and the buffet continental breakfast. The staff were great at explaining what was included and how we could upgrade for a small extra cost.
The rooms were nice and quiet and you could just hear the waves. We didn't hear our friends in the next room at all so soundproofing is good.
I don't think many other rooms were occupied so the restaurant was closed on the Friday night and dinner and breakfast was served in the bar (there was only our table of 4 and another couple). But the food was stunning and came out quickly.
Waitress at breakfast was also very polite and attentive.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room with a view ( 105-109) - even though road was behind us we didn't hear...

We arrived in the slow season and received a terrible welcome at reception from Jay or Ray, the only employee staffed during our arrival. She was abrupt and unfriendly in welcoming us. We went to the hotel restaurant and Jay/Ray was our waitress again providing unfriendly and impatient service. The food in the restaurant is all frozen and not fresh.

The sheets were rough and uncomfortable and the room was cold without a working heater which did not allow us to gain a restful sleep.

Details of guest stay: Our fish is only menu item frozen. Guest bought own wine into restaurant, when told we are not a licensed B.Y.O restaurant, complaint was made by guest. Heater was operational in room, setting on heater was not adjusted. Whilst we value all feedback, we pride ourselves in our high standards of service and complaints made about our staff member are taken out of context.

My wife and I stayed for 1 night in mid July 2013, we planed to stay for 3 nights but after the service we had , 1 night was enough, The young lady that was at front desk was so very rude to my wife when she asked about the rooms , all she could do was moan about having to do all the work each night on her own and run around after the guests .
My wife said she could smell alcohol on her berth when talking to her,
when I asked about parking our car , all she said , put it wear ever you want in a very snotty attitude .
The room was very musty and felt damp and was stuck up the back up a hill,
it took all night to heat up the room .
The meal we had the night we arrived was nice but over priced.
Maybe if the staff were sorted out and attitudes were better we may call in next tine
in early September

Room Tip: Arvie before 9pm
