“Stunning location”
Reviewed October 24, 2013

This hotel has one of the most amazing locations of any I've stayed in. It is at the head of the Valle de Pineta, overlooked by tree-lined slopes, looming mountains and the white streaks of waterfalls. The hotel itself is attractive and fits in with the scenery around. It took us around 4 hours to reach it from Girona airport which was a long drive, but worth it. Staying with a friend and splitting the cost of the room it worked out to be very reasonably priced.
The room was comfortable and I had two great nights sleep there. Opening the window you could smell the fresh mountain air and hear the cowbells from the herds in the field below. The food in the restaurant was very good - not cheap but good quality and the service was fast and efficient.
We walked up to the Balcon de Pineta which was an extremely tough but rewarding walk with amazing views over the whole valley and up to Monte Perdido.
With tired legs after that walk we also nipped over the French border to the Balnea thermal spa which I would also highly recommend for its stunning setting.

This Parador is like an old fashioned ski lodge. Unfortunately, the weather was against us during our visit, which tends to put a damper on things. There seemed to be a nice walk along the river but it was so wet, we desisted. The Parador has a terrace outside the bar on the first floor which must be very pleasant on a sunny day but inside is a bit depressing. The staff were also a bit sullen. Food was quite good and the Parador set menu, normally around E35, was more reasonably priced at E23 for a three course meal.

We stayed three days in this parador at the end of a road into the east side of Parque Nacionale de Ordessa y Monte Perdido (Lost Mountain)in Val de Pineta. The weather was wonderful the whole time, and sitting on the large terrace overlooking huge majestic mountains, listening to the roar of cascades coming off the cliffs into the river below, enjoying a drink (even just a coke) was sheer indulgence.
Our room had a sitting room and was very comfortable. The accommodations tried to be rustic; they used a lot of wood, but the overall effect was more like rustic mountain elegance.
The food was excellent - we recommend the set menu that has about 15 appetizers - you get to try small portions of each one - all before the main dish! They have a captive audience here, (nearest town, Bielsa, is 10-12 miles back down the road) so you pay for breakfast, and can order a substantial "picnic lunch" to take hiking.

We just didn't have the legs to get up to Balcon de Pineta,(Should have found this place when we were younger!) but enjoyed the shorter hike/walk up to Llanos de La Larri, past huge waterfalls and cataracts. This is a lovely, huge hanging valley carved by a glacier - now a pastoral expanse of high meadow surrounded by mountains, with an icy glacial river running through it.

You will pay for the privilege of staying and eating here, it is not cheap, as you can imagine!
But this whole experience was the highlight of our trip to northern Spain and southern France.

We had a fabulous 2 night stay here in August. The rooms are decorated in a traditional rustic style but are very clean and comfortable and the food is excellent. The parador is on the edge of the Ordesa National Park and there are several walking trails in the area. We climbed up to the Balcon de Pineta which was challenging but we were rewarded with breathtaking views of Monte Perdido, the glacier and the Pineta valley

That was our first hotel in our 10 days trip in the Pyrenees, it was a long trip from Barcelona airport but it was worth it, we stayed there for 2 days in a family room and the girls really enjoyed it, just walking around the hotel and look at the mountains. the food was good and the service was helpful.

We just turned up at the parador but fully booked it is in a wonderful location. We did eat in the restaurant and it was fabulous. We will return. I will book in plenty of time. Make sure you are hungry if you have the set menu.

Our two friends (a couple), my wife and I had a great experience at this parador. It's hard to imagine a more beautiful location. The food and drink were good, although not comparable to big cities, because guess what, Bielsa is not a big city. We were there in July, when sunny summer weather is at its best. I had a day to leave my dear wife and friends at the hotel and hike my brains out in the mountains around the hotel, and it couldn't have been more fun. Better be in shape for it though - the Pyrenees are serious mountains. Full marks to the magnificent location and very nice parador.
