Chateau Golf des Sept Tours
Reviewed April 29, 2010

First, the good points. The chateau grounds are lovely, very peaceful and serene. Summer would be the ideal time to enjoy the property when the pool is open. Location was a bit isolated and far from the highway for our needs, but others may not find this a problem.
The rooms were ok. The furnishings were not of 4 star quality, more 3 star. The bathroom was updated and clean and all plumbing worked fine. But some of the paint and wallpaper was peeling and the TV was just sitting on top of the portable refrigerator.
The biggest disappointment though was the eating situation. We were there on a holiday weekend and did not have reservations for dinner in the restaurant. While the tables in the restaurant were not full, we were told there was no availability. We attempted to go out, drove around for nearly an hour and could not find any place to eat. Long story short, we ended up back at the chateau. We were told we could order something a la carte from the restaurant, but were given numerous restrictions and parameters in which we had to place our order. We waited in the lovely bar area for 1 1/2 hours for our tiny order. Luckily the food was very good once it arrived.

We were ignored after 45 minutes of waiting, no waiters even entered the bar area, when the food arrived we were told we had to take it up to our rooms, etc, etc. Needless to say i was not going to pay 20 euros per person for a buffet breakfast of meats and cheeses the next morning. We left very disappointed in the whole experience.

Nice location , a dream come true, wonderful, i can't find my words, I recomend a superior room, and very nice value for money. It is situated in center of a golf terrain, it's incerdible. The staff very elegant , and with old french class.

This was booked as the highlight of a week in the Loire Valley and in the end it was a disappointing stay. The building and location are great.

Good news and bad news on check in. As there were virtually no other guests, we had been upgraded to the main building from the coach house.
As it was a Monday in Winter (nearly May!) the main restaurant was closed. The brasserie was however open.

We crossed the rainy car park for dinner and discovered the Brasserie is a combination bar, cafe and golf shop with seats for about 25 I would guess. The one member of staff greeted us kindly enough and showed us the menu board. Two choices of starter and main course. The food was fine rather than great and probably summed up the ’what might have been’ feel of the whole stay.
I had expected an eye-wateringly expensive but memorable meal in a special setting and got an adequate, expensive meal in a golf club bar.

The room was very good with views over the golf course in two directions and a superb bathroom. It was great to see an espresso machine, shame that it required a trip down to reception to get some coffeee capsules at 2 euros a time.
Sleep in the very comfortable bed was badly disturbed by a very loud generator that after some protests was eventually turned off. We skipped the 18 euros a head breakfast and departed feeling just a little let down.

I would certainly give this place another go and would have to attribute at least half my disappointment to circumstances.

It's not the sort of place you expect to find as a hotel, a 500 year old castle. But it is, and it's beautiful.

We had a room in the turret for approx €105 whch was fabulous.

The restaurant was superb, we speak virtually no French and all the staff soon realised this and tried their best in English which made the evening far more enjoyable. As for the food, it's as good as any I've eaten in michelin starred restaurants. Highly recommended.

I'll be making the journey back to the Loire just to stay here again, loved every minute of it.

Reservation - Flawless and Polite
Check-in - They were waiting for us when we stepped out of the car and no waiting
Room: Impeccably clean, well furnished, big and comfortable.
Surrounding: Beautiful Castle blending the historical atmosphere with modern amenities.
Dinner: At the Braserie. Not a lot of choice but reasonably priced and with great service
Staff: Courteous, efficient and eager to please.

All in all, a great stay at Chateau des 7 Yours. The only drawback is the location. 60km from Amboise, 90km from Blois. If you ask us, it was well worth the extra distance

We stayed at the Hotel des Sept Tours after a summer of living in Milan, Italy. We had a week-long trip through France and stayed here to enjoy the castles of the Loire Valley for two nights. We booked our stay in early March and got a great internet rate. The lower-cost rooms were for non-traditional rooms. In our case, we got the turret room in the main Chateau. The second building is very large, and was formerly a stable, although they call it an Orangerie. We didn't see this building, except from the exterior. I did see into the standard rooms of the main castle and they appeared to be larger than ours, maybe with different fabrics. My first thoughts about the property included the peacefulness of the location. Our apartment in Milan was really noisy and on a busy street, so this was the break we needed. In August, the weather was temperate, and maybe on the cool side. The castle is heavily shaded, and stone, so while our room didn't have air-conditioning, the windows were more than adequate at cooling the space. There was a lovely pool on the property, as well as a golf course, but we didn't use either one. For me, the weather was too cool for swimming, and we don't golf, but the grounds were beautiful. We only had one meal at the hotel, a dinner that lasted all evening. It was in the Chateau's main restaurant, where the young chef is working toward a reputation for molecular gastronomy. It was fun, and the food was really quite good, as well as an experience. Otherwise, evenings at the Chateau seem quiet. Our room was round, and stone, it had odd corners and funny traits, but it wasn't uncomfortable. The shower-head was a "rain-shower" that maybe needed to be replaced, and the spaces were tight, but we had been living in Milan, so we were used to a small bathroom. And, of course, there are only (stone) stairs up to the room, so try to pack lightly! But you are, after all, sleeping in a real castle.
