You can go there by bus from Georgetown, it takes about an hour. Beautiful spot, a lot of amazing plants and flowers. Situated beyond Batu Ferringhi where the coast starts to be pretty, without hotel high rises and condominiums all over the beach. In front of the garden you have some beach-side cafes where you can get a juice or coconut water or something to eat.

Went there with our children aged three and five. Instead of using a guide, we followed the coloured signs on the ground.

At the entrance we got insect repellent which was a nice gesture. The garden was very green and beautiful, and well taken care of. It also has explainations that helped us learn more on the way. Our favourite thing to do, was the station where we could mix different spices and squeeze them in order to smell them better.

They also have a shop, a restaurant and cooking classes here. The restaurant Tree Monkey was fantastic!

We paid 14 RM per adult and nothing for the children.

Wow - what a great way to spend a morning. We arrived at the Spice Garden and were met with our very friendly and informative guide who took us on a tour through the gardens, including the spices and herbs. It was great to see some new things as well as displays of some more familiar plants. Then we were met by Pearly and Chandra for our Real McCoy Nyonya cooking class - Coconut Cream Rice, Tamarind Prawn and Stuffed Fish with Sambal. It was a privilege to be taught by Pearly - she made us feel at ease right away and stepped us through the recipe easily. Pearly and Chandra's love of Malaysian food and history was inspiring and sharing the meal with them was a lovely end to a great day. We wholeheartedly recommend Pearly's cooking class.

It's worth it.

My friend and I did the spice garden tour + cooking class, and that's the best and only way to go. It worked out to about $80 CAD per person and we were MORE than satisfied.

Our tour guide Danny was knowledgeable and energetic, it was great to learn more about the spices and their healing properties.

Our teacher chef, Pearly, was incredible! She had so much enthusiasm and her passion and love for food and the ingredients made the class so much fun. At the end, we sat down with Pearly and her husband (who also was the photographer) to have a nice meal (the one we just cooked) together and learned some history about Penang from them.

If you're in Penang, don't hesitate to add this to your itinerary. :)
