lovely place to walk in the evening and look at the fab yachts, sadly it is a "white elephant" as a lot of shops are empty. does not look very inviting and the restaurants which are open seem to struggling. prices are not cheap either, still it is a nice outing. weekends are for street markets, there is also a kiddy corner

Straits quay is one of the newest shopping malls in Penang however the shops are somewhat up market and lack the sort that allow you to make it an overall shopping visit i.e.no department store.
There is a good selection of restaurants, cafes and faster food outlets.
The overal good experience of the visit is sitting outside overlooking the marina (nice boats) whilst sipping a cold beer or cocktail, very relaxing.
During holidays a number of events are arranged to entertain the public, you can also hire a bike to ride (slowly) aound the quay

Straits Quay is very close to Tesco so worth combing the two if you need to do grocery shopping
Although SQ is normally very quiet this is a good time to see Christmas decorations Never get there before noon though as nothing much open and no atmosphere. An interesting selection of boats moored there at the moment.
Best place to eat fish and chips for less than 20 ringgits including starter soup and beverage is Blue Reef on the ground floor.M-F daytime more at night.Go to Starbucks a few doors away for coffee and free internet.
On the second floor is an Apple store where staff speak excellent English and ca advise on updates for your iPad etc There is also a good clean Subway
On second floor also a good Christmas scene made out of sand for that Christmas family pic !
If traveling by bus go on 101 toTesco and walk 5 minutes or 102 drops outside.Plenty of parking for cars.
A good selection of pubs but better atmosphere when the sun goes down.

It may be good idea to include the Tesco Mall with a trip to the Quays, about 7 minutes walk away.
A free shuttle bus runs every 90 minutes, starting at the Hard Rock, and stops at several other bus stops in Batu Ferringhi along the way.

The marina houses several high end yachts, and many of the cafes and restaurants offer el fresco dining to take advantage of the water and marina views. There is Starbucks, Subway, Dome, Papa Rich, Coffee Bean Secret Recipe … all the usual suspects and then some.

Inside the mall, the Victorian style arcades and marble floors are home to several up market branded retail stores, more restaurants, an art gallery, a carpet gallery, a high end Spa and a furniture store. It’s all quite tastefully done, and one can easily while away a few hours here. Parking is no problem here and cost is only RM1.

Best time to visit is on the weekend when there is a craft market inside the mall complex. It’s open till late.

Some reasonable restaurants here, and a nice place to come for coffee and soak up the marina views. There is a Starbucks with el fresco seating. There is a Papa Rich restaurant, but was temporarily closed last time we were there due to staff shortage

Also there is a flee market every weekend inside the complex where I found some foreigners selling hand crafts not easily found elsewhere.

There is plenty of secure parking on either side of the complex, cost is only RM1. It's a bit different from other parts of Penang so for that reason alone probably worth a visit. Of course there are good clean bathroom facilities here, also showers. I will post some photos next time I visit.

It's rather expensive to moor your boat here and no local food stalls, so for mooring Lankawi seems to be the preferred location
