“Great service.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

Can't fault this....free travel from Penang to Butterworth, and then on the return trip you only pay $1.40 RMI (Approx 55c Aus) Just make sure you make a comfort stop before you use the ferry, as the loo's on same get very very high....both male and female. The trips across are smooth and leisurely.

“Very nice..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

Very nice and cheap mode of transportation providing a very good scenic view of the Penang Island. Once the car is loaded you can get off and go to the top level for some good photos. At the top level there is seating arrangement for people without any car, bike etc.

“It is just another ferry”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

This is a good service but it is just a local transport ferry and not a tourist attraction. It is a good option if you want to travel to Butterworth as it is more conveniently located to Georgetown than the bridge. I caution though there is little to see at the Butterworth end so once again remember this is just a local mode of transport.

“a must try transportation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

Wanna see beautiful sunrise? just try to go to Penang island from mainland by ferry, it's free. But from Penang island to mainland it take a cost MYR 1.2.
Easiest transportation to go to the island if you came from Kuala Lumpur or Thailand by train. the terminal just walking distance from train station (butterworth)

“Great cheap way to see sunset over Penang Island”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

I took the ferry today from Penang Island to Butterworth and back. The trip to Butterworth is free, on the way back your fare is just RM1.20. As it was around sunset on the return journey, I have some great snaps of the sunset that I'd otherwise have missed out on.

There's nothing to do in the immediate vicinity in Butterworth once you get off the ferry, however the bus terminal here has a range of local buses that will take you to a variety of shopping malls such as Sunway carnival, the Megamall and Tesco. You can also take buses long-distance and taxis are available also. I took one of the local buses today to Sunway carnival mall and on to Tesco. Just RM2.00 to both - I love taking local public transport as it gives you a glimpse into daily life that you'd never see otherwise!
