“A lovely trip”

Penang Ferry Service
Ranked #36 of 236 things to do in Penang Island

We drove across the bridge from penang to the mainland and decided to take the ferry back. The price was very cheap, the service efficient and the views very worthwhile. Yes, the ferrys are dirty and yes they are worn and tired but that's half the fun!

The ferry from the mainland was okay as two berthing are use but on the island side only 1,so we have to wait for quite sometime. The walkway to the ferry(on Penang side) was a bit steep.Big problem if you have big and heavy luggages. No goos for peoples with cruches or on wheelchair.Insuffiecient info after on the way out.The escalator on mainland side was always out of service.

It was the 2nd time that I cross the channel on car. The ferry had being operating for almost 2 decades. It could ferry both cars and humans. This trip, i saw there was an improvement on the deck. Cars are park on both lanes and middle were cater to passengers.

A nice, some 15 minutes ride between Georgetown and Butterworth. Old and worn ferries, but that is half the fun. The embarking and disembarking is efficient. Cost is low 1.20 ringgit. The trip will give you sea breeze, nice panoramic views and plenty opportunity to get a sense of the multicultural composition of the people.

If you have arrived at Butterworth station by train i highly suggest taking the ferry. Don't bother with a taxi or bus and travel with the locals heading across to Penang Island. Cost is 1.2 RM to Georgetown or free to butterworth.

Excellent views of Georgetown and the surrounding Melaka straits. Just relax and soak up the cool breeze.
