I went to Nanital with my wife and 4 years daughter in first week of july. Looked for couple of hotels in net before going there but was not able to finalize one due to different conflicting reviews about same hotel available on internet.
I decided to hunt for the hotel on arriving at nanital itself. I checked couple of them before finalizing 'The Pavillion"

1) Hotel Krishna -
you have climb stair worth 3 floor to reach hotel from mall road, and another 2 floors to reach your room within hotel, so total 5 floor. didn't worked for my wife.
rooms were ok, were getting lake view for Luxury suite and super deluxe. but for standard deluxe, you have to go to shared balcony for lake view. also carpets were having stink in deluxe rooms. I prefer wooden or marble flooring from cleanliness perspective. not many hotels are able to maintain carpets in good shape.

2) Radha Continental – cheap hotel with not so good location and not well maintained.

3) Royal Hotel –
PRO: Hotel offered free parking, big rooms for genuine price
CON: big room was not structured well. It was old fashioned room with guest room in front, then bed room and then bathroom in single row. Bedroom it felt so stuffy (may work out in winter, when u want cozy rooms, was having fireplace etc). Again carpet stink was there. Manager promised me to give one of the marble flooring room the next day. But one has to settle once for all, nobody has time to keep changing rooms.

4) The Pavilion
PRO: Very calm. Small lawn with play area for kiddies. Well maintained plants, have looks of govt. guest house than hotel. Good view of hills, 300-400 mtrs. away from mall (next to high court). Free parking, parking was just next to my room at second floor. Room was having wooden floor, was clean, as well the towels and bed sheets. Hot water was available (I guess from 7 to 11 AM, that was the period we needed it anyway). Room Service was prompt. utilized it for breakfast only. food was ok. Manager didn’t smile, but was helpful in offering space for keeping my luggage in clock room after checkout.
Con: No lake view, bit away from mall. Walk from mall to hotel is difficult due to steep elevation. Hired taxi after first day’s experience.

All in all, Hotel was not good but not great.

Good Points:
- Impeccably well maintained heritage structure with well landscaped gardens and lawns.
- Delicious food available in the restaurant with an extremely courteous staff makes it a sheer pleasure dining in the hotel
- Very prompt room service
- Well appointed rooms with super large bathrooms and attached bath tubs make for a good time during showers.

Down sides:
- Hot water available only in the morning (7 to 11 am). Hence, having an evening shower after a long and tiring day touring becomes nearly impossible as the tap water is very cold.
- Stray dogs in and around the hotel bark a lot of times ruining the decorum in the hotel, especially at odd hours in the night.
- Poor Location - around 25 minutes walk from the nearest end of the lake with no view of the lake makes for a pretty odd and poor location
- The receptionist guy who is also the manager never smiles - even though they are happy to help us in every way. A little smile, in place of a frown, would be nice to see...

Overall, it was a very pleasureable experience. It was my first stop on my honeymoon and I have absolutely no regrets!

The Pavilion's location is wonderful, at the top of a steep business street in Nainital, in the Himalayas. We walked down and down the hill, looking at the shops, until we came to the gorgeous lake at the bottom, with rowers and dragon boats on it, cupped by the mountains. Alas, our experience at the Pavilion was not quite as lovely. We must have been there in the off season, because the hotel was nearly empty, so perhaps a traveler in the hot months might have a different experience. Our bed was very firm - okay - but had no mattress pad on it, and was made up with flat sheets too narrow to tuck in properly, so halfway through the night I found myself lying on the bare mattress. And its plastic brand-name sticker, not too comfortable. The room was cold and had a bare feeling to it. Because we were leaving very early in the morning, we wanted to shower at night but the hot water was not turned on and they wouldn't turn it on for us - or at least, that was the best we could make out, given the limited English available - but they did supply us with a large bucket of hot water and a dipper, for taking the classic Indian bucket shower. We had a lovely little sitting area outside our door, and the restaurant was good and plentiful, but we were the only people there. Id' recommend this hotel only to people visiting during the hot months. And bring your own sheets.

Originally a 19th century building, Hotel New Pavilion was formerly a royal residence. Nestled amidst tall deodars at the base of the famous Cheena Peak, the hotel is encircled by beautiful gardens and is situated in close proximity to the main market area - Mallital Bara Bazaar. Each of the standard and deluxe rooms as well the Luxury Suites and independent Cottages at Hotel New Pavilion are aided with all the latest amenities, well-decorated and provide homely feeling. I enjoyed well with my wife .

I have booked Hotel New Pavillion via Makemytrip.com.it is very nice & pleasant place. We had booked a Delux room which has a seprate sitting area with sofas along with Bath and Bedroom. The room had wooden flooring and a high ceiling. It has a British era feel to it. The washroom was also spacious but lacks hot water supply. The best thing about the hotel is that it is not on mall and fairly walking distance from mall road and in very peaceful environs. The lawn at the front and the terrace are ideal to relax in the mornings and evenings.it has a restaurant which legs space but room service is very prompt.all staff are very friendly and food is good. It's located in Mallital, the other end of Nainital, further up from the Lake but quite close to the market nonetheless.I would love to visit again.I met the Sah family (owners of the property) and they treated us like their own guests.I admire them for their down to earth behavior.

Surely visit again !!!!!

at last I would say it was a very good and memorable 3 days trip to nainital.
