“Soulitude - Relaxing by the River”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 18, 2013

If you are looking for some time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Chanfi is the place to go to. It's a short drive from the Kathgodam station and about a 15-30 minute trek from the road, depending on your state of fitness. Fortunately the property has staff who transport your baggage.

You walk through a valley as you get off the road and suddenly you find you have arrived at Soulitude. The accommodations are cottage style, with typically two rooms in each cottage - upstairs and downstairs. I was pleased to find myself in a downstairs suite as it had an outdoor open-to-sky bathing area as well as being a little cooler than the upstairs room.

The staff are amazing and really looked after us. The meals were excellent as were the chai and the chaas. this is a place where you forget your phone (signals are very weak) and focus on being surrounded by nature. We found ourselves exploring the surrounding area and discovering several great spots to sit down and read a good book or sit and chat.

An amazing bonus is the river which runs alongside the property. Apart from the welcome sound of running water, a major bonus was the opportunity to go and sit on the huge rocks next to the water and soak your feet in the river. Before you knew it, there were a number of small fish providing a complimentary pedicure!

A great experience - felt like being in a very comfortable jungle retreat.

Soulitude at Chanfi is paradise on earth. We had a blissful vacation there last month and are already making plans to go back. It is right at the banks of a River so you hear the sound of water rushing by all day. If the current is not too strong you can take a dip in the river too, as we did much to the delight of the kids. Built in complete harmony with nature and run by the amazing team at Soulitude it is the perfect getaway from a hectic city. Can't wait to return.

Destination Soulitude in the himalayas , always wins hands down with the family!! Soulitude by the riverside, would be equally delightful, - was a given!
Within minutes of moving from kathgodam railway station, one can smell the crisp mountain air, it only helps, that it is early morning! As you take the road meandering through the kumaon Hills the sun comes up on you in all its majesty , to signal happy days ahead.
It takes about an hour to reach the ' until ' driving point for village chamfi.there are eager porters waiting to welcome and escort you to the property.we disembark at an old rustic suspended bridge, that looks like British legacy, and begin our morning walk. The approach builds expectation and keeps the holiday mood upbeat! ( family actually held hands as we walked and talked our way up the natural mountain trail) investment in good walking shoes is a must.
When the property shows up from behind a clump of trees, one just stands, glued to the spot ,at the sheer beauty of the location. it is magical ! Nestled comfortably among the hills on all sides, sits the very charming SOULITUDE, with the river gurgling happily in its insides.
Soulitude by the riverside, is not your regular regular resort holiday....... Infact it is an escape from one! It has the ambience of a mountain chalet. The rooms are large, neat comfortable, and with great views. Service staff is trained to be discreet, on call, but not obtrusive. Food is delicious home style fare, and the cooks often have local flavours as add ons.your time and space are your own, you are encouraged to walk or trek around a bit,or simply sit, book in hand, with your feet in the flowing water.4 hours into the place, and you feel the calmness descending on you, and it brings along the essential disconnect.....from noise, from traffic, from pollution and above all from everything routine.
The owner couple manish and ratna, very obviously have tremendous vision, and both their properties are a pure reflection of very refined taste and sensibilities. It is their great attention to detail, in a seemingly effortless manner which is a huge plus.onealso found them very aware of their responsibility to the fragile ecosystem.great care is taken to run the place in a manner which does not only take away from the resource system- local materials are used for construction, local people employed and trained as artisans and staff, their families taken care of,even the vegetables and fruit grown on the premises, are used and shared by all.
Go prepared to JUST BE.holiday at an altered pace and let the simple natural energies of the place take over,as you discover a new rhythm in your soul.
Only one question will plague your mind....." When will i do this again"" ?

Our experience at the resort began with a very adventurous 20 odd minute walk which took us through a stream over rocks and the wilderness leading us to the resort. A very exciting yet an easily manageable walk indeed!

On our arrival at the resort we were greeted by the staff and a very interesting welcome drink called "chaas" a tantalising version of buttermilk with a mint flavour.

We were then taken on a mini tour of the resort which is splendidly landscaped yet has a rustic look to it. The property is endowed with captivating natural beauty. It is surrounded by hillocks on three sides and a small stream flowing through the it with natural waterfalls very imaginatively conceived.

Then came the very pleasant surprise when we were shown the interiors of the cottages. Each room within has a character of its own with aesthetically designed furniture and a lovely blend of colours making each room look unique. A striking feature is how modern technology is integrated into truly rustic look and feel of the rooms. A bukhari on the one side with electric heaters and electric bed warmers on the other made the extremely low temperatures of December pale into insignificance. Very detailed attention had been given to the fittings, lighting and the decor to give the rooms and the adjoining rest rooms an ethnic look but at the same time making it an extremely comfortable and luxurious experience!

The natural treks in an around the resort offer an adventurous occasion to the guests to discover the adjoining terrain and especially a walk up to Pari Taal which pretty interesting. The shacks made around the natural water body in the property is an ideal location to have a beer or sip some wine and catch up on some reading in serene surroundings listening to the sounds of nature.

The F&B is an absolutely remarkable experience with a diversified choice of delicious cuisine very well presented by trained chefs is a very old fashioned dining room. For a momentary period you are transported into history with its decor and the ambience but the first bite of your dish brings you back to the present with the very modern aromas and flavours of contemporary cuisine!

The staff is extremely hospitable, courteous and well trained and they make it a very delightful and pleasing stay!

Overall a truly grand experience and I would love to go back time and again and strongly recommend others to go visit and discover the mystique of this resort of themselves!

I don't think anyone can do justice to this palce by writing a review or sharing photographs. This place has to be experienced. One could never imagibe that in the middle of nowhere, down in the valley such a beautiful property can exist, that also right next to a river. We trekked down the hill to reach this property which was an amazing experience and once you reach you are truly speechless. The first thing you want to do is go and take a quik dip in the river - it is so inviting. The rooms are so nicely done up with so much attention to detail. We were staying in the room with the "Hanging Bed" which was a high point for my son as leave alone him, we had also never seen/ slept on a hanging bed. The room has a nice balcony overlooking the river. On the property there is a cute little dhaba which gives you the real experience of a village. You can have breakfast and generally hang around there for tea etc. The dining room is so inviting and the food is out of the world. There is a lounge room which has a TV and kids had a great time drawing and playing games in this room. There is a shack which is right next to the river where you can forget about everything as you stare into the waterfall which by the way gets lit at night. The staff is very friendly and helpful - excellent service. We spent hours just dipping our feet in the river collecting all kinds of pebbles and enjoying the peace that this palce offers you. Great place for kids to experience nature in an absolute unfiltered form - clean & beautiful.

My husband I visited this beautiful property in the month of March . It had not completely opened up yet. We went there for a day trip as we were already staying at soulitude in the Himalayas.
After reaching there we were so mesmerized that we insisted on staying there for the night even though they had not opened up for lodging yet. The river touches the property with its own private waterfall. So tempting that even though it was ice cold we actually got into the water. Had lunch served next to it and very delicious food and great service. The place lives upto it's name. Solitude, serenity and calm. The location is unbeatable. We actually walked through the river while getting back. Gave us a taste of some adventure too. The place reflects the love and dedication that has gone into making it.
Kudos to everyone involved in being able to mete out such an unforgettable experience.
Will definitely go back some day soon. Keep it up!
