“A ferry trip included makes this an event to savour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2012

Currently ranked 32 in Continental Europe Troia holds the record that Sam Torrance was the only player to beat Par to win the Portuguese Open in 1983. Thomas Levet described it as ‘the toughest course in Europe’.

Architect Robert Trent Jones built a masterpiece set amidst sandy dunes and towering pine trees on a coastal peninsular with spectacular views of the mountain range across the ocean. Small greens heavily guarded by large bunkers demand masterful aerial approach shots.

The course was in fighting form with the greens set at ‘12’ on the stimpmeter. Anything on the wrong side could result in the ball sliding off into the fringe and beyond. It was a day not for the faint hearted!

We drove up by minibus from the Algarve which took us just over two hours so you could easily play here in a day and return back. For us it a short ferry trip to Setubal for an overnight in the pretty fishing village of Sesimbra.

This is simply a must play course as the whole experience of 'going to play' there is something special. If your looking for another course to play in the area try Quinta Da Peru - a Rocky Roquemore gem.
