“Perfect location for skiing!”
Reviewed February 20, 2014

Stayed in the Bergo Apartments next door to the hotel, meters away from the ski slopes which was perfect. The snow was perfect and the resort extremely friendly, only downside for me is the high prices and lack of buzz in the evenings, though this could be nice for some!

We spent a week skiing in January 2014 in perfect snow. The hotel was friendly, comfortable and offered good value. It is within walking distance of the lifts (even with ski boots on) and close to the charming village centre. You really must visit the bar - the décor is amazing. But don't tell too many people it might get crowded; this hotel is excellent and the resort is a hidden gem.

We have just returned from a one week ski holiday booked with Crystal, 5 of us with kids age 8, 12 and 13. It was just perfect, best holiday ever. Whilst the skiing will not challenge the advanced skier, it is spot on for beginners and early intermediates. The cabins are lovely and cozy, the sauna worked well for relaxing and drying out wet gear, ours slept 9! and the location was 2 mins from the slopes. Restaurants are pricey as per the norm in ski resorts but portions were larger than normal. The trips were fab, incl rafting down a bobsleigh track with tepee/skidoos etc, airboarding down floodlit piste and horse/carriage ride. Whilst not cheap, they all over-delivered and the guides etc were great and everyone very friendly - I would do them all again. I'd say this is a first-class family resort, small, no crowds, really quaint and a real winter wonderland - such a pleasant contrast if you are used to annual skiing in France/Austria etc. Highly recommended

We hired one of Bergo Hotel's self-contained appartments and were very happy with our week-end there. We got a good deal through letsdeal which included skipasses, which meant we paid very little for the accommodation.
The appartment had an open lounge/kitchen area, and two (small) bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with bunk beds. It had a large balcony overlooking the main street, just across the road from the Spar supermarket (open 7 days a week), and main slopes/ski rental shop. The appartment wasn't modern and shiny, but clean, functional and more than adequate for our purposes. The kitchen had an oven with hotplates, a kettle, a coffee-maker, a dishwasher (but no micro-wave). The shower room was fine, no great luxury, but tiled and clean.
The tv was a flashback to the 80's (14 inch CRT) but we weren't there to watch tv anyway...
You choose either to clean the flat upon departure, or to pay to have it cleaned (I think it was 500kr?). We cleaned it ourselves.
All in all, we were very happy with our stay there.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the front, but the rooms at the back also have a pleasant view, and are pr...

We are a family of 3 persons (husband, wife and 14 year old daughter) and spent a wonderful night on 23 July 2011 in this fantastic hotel en route from our travel with Cosmos tour operator. We stayed in the furnished apartment building section of the hotel having scenic views of Mount Jotunheimen. The popular ski-resort was located nearby within walking distance. There are shops and restaurants also in the vicinity, as also a petrol pump. The room was clean and well furnished and had free internet/wi-fi connectivity. The food was fabulous, be it breakfast or dinner, fresh and with lots of variety to choose from.

Stayed two nights for a business event. Very simple hotel, with a very friendly and helpful staff, almost like staying with friends/family. Great breakfast with good selection and variety. View of the mountains and hills from the restaurant. The rooms were OK sized, although the sound insulation could have been better. Rooms are simple, no minibar, just one soap dispenser for all use, no other toiletries, but decent hairdresser. Beds are comfortable. All in all, good value for money although no luxury.

Room Tip: Mountain view rooms recommended

Bergo Cabins, Beitostolen

We booked for 6th March 2011 via Neilsons.
The transfer is quick and simple – 45 minutes and we were given our cabin key on the bus so straight in. We had cabin number 3 for 3 adults. However, it could sleep 6/8 at a push. Plenty of beds but living space is slightly limited so I don’t recommend you fill the beds.
Good kitchen and lounge area, however the kitchen did not have a microwave or toaster. The dishwasher is a good extra and you also get a kettle with the coffee machine.
Small shower room but has a sauna!!
The welcome pack provided in the cabins is absolutely excellent – bread, milk, fruit, crisps, bacon, salami, butter, cheese, jam, coffee, sweets, cola, fizzy water and other bits.
Food & drink – we found shopping quite expensive and we didn’t eat out – but understand that the pizza place is about the cheapest place in town to eat. Norway prices are expensive compared to the UK. We took a lot of our own food, dried pasta meals, part bake bread, rice packets etc so we only needed to buy fresh vegetables really.
The cabin was in an excellent location for the slopes – about 150 yards away. Ski conditions were excellent with plenty of snow fall while we were there too. Lifts are good and as the slopes are short, they all come back to the same place so easy to find your friends.
This resort is excellent for beginners, intermediates and snow boarders. However, if you want longer reds, you need to visit the Alpin centre across the lake. A good ski bus shuttle service goes from the main chair lift every day (approx 20 NOK per person each way). It takes 15 minutes. There are 2 or 3 good red runs and a couple of black runs. The red slopes though, use a button lift and it’s a long way!
Ski/boot hire – this is a bit of a conveyor belt system here but if you are a beginner, the rep is on hand so can help. The staff were quite young and didn’t really get involved in the fitting of boots. Equipment was good though.
Excursions – If you don’t mind a few bruises, you have to try the air boarding – brilliant fun. We also did the snow rafting which was great. (Hoping to post a video of this on YouTube so check it out).
There are plenty of other things to try including dog sledding, cross country skiing, horse riding etc.
I would not recommend this resort for very good intermediates/advanced skiers as you will be bored after a day or two. We covered all slopes in the main resort on the first day.
But it is a great resort for families, beginners and average intermediates in that every slope comes back to the same place so difficult to lose each other. Plenty of blue and green slopes.
We had a great week, beautiful area, good company and the rep, Alex, was great fun.
