We were told it was approx 3km from Georgioupoli to Lake Kournas so decided to walk instead of taking the road train, we soon found out that Cretan km are longer then any other km ;o) and after 4.5km we reached Markos place. If we had taken the road train we may not have found this lovely little family run taverna, as i believe it takes the second exit to the lake and Markos Place is at the bottom of the first exit - which looks like a wrong turn at first but keep going, you won't be disappointed, i promise!
Markos gave us a very warm welcome and we were served some delicious food - i reccomend the slow roasted Lamb (see pic 6) and the cheese pie with honey for dessert!
After eating all we possibly could and washing it down with a shot of Raki "YAMAS", we took a trip around the beautiful lake on a pedalo and saw terrapins, water snakes (small), crabs and fish.
Definitely wort a visit!
