“Very Peaceful”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

Stayed here in June 2012.

It was so peaceful! We had an apartment in block overlooking the bay through the trees and it was very tranquil. I should imagine though if you had an apartment at the back there would have been traffic noise.

We'd booked a 1 bedroom apartment and actually had 2 and the apartment was set over two floors. Although the spiral staircase, which was very narrow, was a little scary but providing you took it carefully it wasn't too much of a problem.

Apartments are well equipped with everything you would need and kept spotlessly clean 6 days per week.

All the staff were really helpful and, although we didn't have anything cooked, the salads at the Pool Bar were lovely and the other food looked good too.

Besides sitting by the pool (which can be a bit hot) there are lovely lawned areas overlooking the bay (not very good for swimming) and you can relax on your sun loungers under the shade of the many trees there.

Gouvia itself is a quaint resort and quite compact compared to other resorts that we saw on our travels with the hire car, which we liked,

If you want English Breakfast and sandy beaches then the resorts in the North cater for these things more than Gouvia, but we felt that you lose some of the local feel at these resorts.

Overall a lovely holiday and would return again to same place.

Room Tip: Ask for room near the sea to avoid possible traffic noise

The most beautiful self catering resort I have ever been to. Small blocks containing 4 (or so) apartments each, scattered amongst well manicured lawns with palm trees, olive trees etc.leading right down to a small beach, and plenty of sun beds scattered around for anyone to use.. A welcome pack was in the kitchen with tea, coffee, milk and sugar, fruit juice and a bottle of wine, and water. Proper kitchen with full cooker, fridge, kettle and coffee maker, pots and pans. Free airconditioning which was very welcome as it reached 38 degrees during our stay. Stacks of hot water and a very good powerful shower over the bath. Immaculately clean all through, friendly maids clean up and make the beds every day, clean sheets and towels every other day. Lovely and quiet even though there was a busy road nearby. There is also a small shop on the site for all your basic needs and plenty of shops within Gouvia for a more comprehensive choice. The pool was excellent and the pool bar also served snack type meals throughout the day. The only downside was that I suppose being mid September the bar closed early evening so we had to go into Gouvia, about a 10 minute walk, for an evening meal. That was no problem really as there are many tavernas to chose from. Do try the glace kumquats sold in lots of shops, they're delicious, and a hint, if you like them bring plenty home. I have searched the web to find a supplied in the UK and eventually contacted the makers on Corfu. They don't sell to the UK. SHAME.
Belinda manages the site , she is English and extremely nice and helpful. We had had two dicky kettles so she gave us hers which solved the problem.
We took the bus into Corfu town but chose the wrong day, it bucketed down all day after a night of thunder storms and a lightning show the like of which I have never seen before and it went on for over an hour. That's saying something for a UK dweller. Needless to say we never got to see the old fort or all the attractions on offer which was a shame. Never mind, there is always a next time.
I would certainly recommend Helion Resort for a quiet, peaceful way of winding down from a busy lifestyle.

Room Tip: We arrived after midnight after a flight delay and were given a room by the security guard. We had a...

We stayed in July with 3 children, had a lovely appartement with a "postcard- view", through palmtrees onto the bay. The appartement was small, but useful and very clean. ( Very friendly cleaning ladies!) The third child had a folded bed which we had to put in the kitchen area(she felt like Harry Potter, living under the stairs). The beach was not among the prettiest from the island, but okay for a swim. The pool was clear and the innkeeper at the poolbar (WIFI) really friendly. The most friendly person was at the reception: Bellinda. A very helpful english lady, any question you could ask, little ideas what to do, she made you feel like home ! There was a big lawn ( watered daily, always cut) with many many sunbeds for everyone. The residence was quite calm, though the village center wasn't far. Even without a car, shopping was possible in a walking distance. We could buy fresh bread ( and any other food) in a shop in the residence for reasonable prices. We all would go again, especially for Corfu is a very green greek island, with not too many tourists. Just fine ! And thank you Bellinda!

We were my husband and I, our 15-year-old daughter and my old parents. We had booked 2 apartments. We got number 30 to my parents (that was like an own house on ground plane, with separate bedroom and large terrace, there was also a loft but they did not need that). We had number 36, similar apartment but it was on 2nd floor with balcony and there was another apartment under ours. Both apartments were lovely and neat and clean. Some ants in our kitchen but no big problem.

The area Helion Resort was beautiful and peaceful. The big garden was lovely on the seashore. The beach was ok for swimming (even though some people write it wasnt suitable for swimming and some even say "there must be snakes", that is not true.) Of course the beach wasn't excellent one and water was not crystal clear, but still it was ok.

Inflatable toys were not allowed in the pool during 10 and 17 hours, there was a lifeguard who made sure of that. But after 17 inflatable mattress filled the pool (not very nice, even though they were forbidden all the time).

Gouvia was a small but sufficient for our needs. We had a car for 6 days so we drove alot around the island. Best beach we found was Agios Georgios in the south-western coast.

Helion resort had about 30 houses and in each house there were about 4 apartments. Some of the apartments were in permanent use (local Corfu occupants?).

There was a bottle of wine, 1,5 litre bottle of water and orange juice waiting for customers on the first day in the rooms.

On arrival, all guests were left from the bus to the main gate of the area. There was one small van that a guard drove and delivered the suitcases to the rooms. He also guided guests to the rooms. As the car was small, only about 5 person's suitcases fitted in the car and others had to wait on the main gate. We were in the first "delivery" and got the rooms within the first ones, but some people seemed to get their rooms only about 1 hour after us. So, be the first to rush to the guard's car!!!

We had a late flight on the last day and we got another apartment (a bit poor one, but better than nothing) free for our use for the afternoon. There was toilet, shower and fridge, A/C etc... So that was very good. But I am not sure if they can arrange such apartments for all "evening leaving" customers.

This is the first hotel ever that we would like to return to.

Returned last night, following a wonderful week at Govino Bay Helion Resort and felt compelled to review asap. Throughout our stay, we (my 80 year old mum and I) were shown the utmost consideration by all the staff there, Sally, Yannis & Ekaterina were especially kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We arrived quite late and were shown to our apartment by a pleasant and welcoming young man, the security guard, as the office was closed. The morning after we arrived, I approached Gregory Kazantzis to request a change of apartment, as the one we had been allocated had a spiral staircase and was not especially good for mum with her dodgy knee. We were immediately given a very suitable alternative. The new place was everthing we wanted, great views, individual sleeping areas, I slept in the mezzanine area, a compact but well equipped shower room with endless hot water and the best set up of any living area I have ever experienced in 30 years of self catering in Greece. Gregory was charming, kind and efficient. The complex is exactly as described, set within beautiful, mature gardens and views to die for. Another astounding thing was not to have to pay separately for the air conditioning or the TV remote.. it was all in with the price. We were also refunded the whole cost of the hire of the safety deposit key at the end of the week, again most unusual for Greece! The village of Gouvia is as I remembered, peppered with good tavernasand friendly mini markets. This was my second visit to Gouvia, the last time being 3 years ago with my husband, we loved it then and it suited mum and I perfectly too. Apart from her knee problem, she is a very sprightly, youthful woman and the location was ideal for her, a 5 minute stroll into the village, where she quickly realised that the spirit of philoxenia, the welcome of strangers as guests, is very much alive and thriving on the island. The taverna's, notably Aries & S.O.S. provided good food and great atmosphere. Corfu Town was a delight, shoe & bag shops aplenty and although a little costly, very good on quality. The historic architecture and the abundant flowers made for a real picture postcard appearance. Altogether, a fantastic trip, and the weather was perfect... what more can one ask for?
