Adler Hotel & Restaurant Gross-Gerau
Ranked #1 of 3 Hotels in Gross-Gerau
Reviewed September 21, 2013

Hotel Adler, a 4**** hotel, is located in the city centre of Gross-Gerau on a pedestrian area, one kilometre from the train station and about 15 kilometres from Frankfurt Airport. It’s an old, well-kept family hotel with about 65 rooms, a sauna and a swimming pool. For conferences, meetings and events, 3 air-conditioned rooms and some smaller rooms are available as well as 5 saloons for parties. The hotel has its own parking for free as well as internet/wifi. Staff is very kind and helpful. Check in/check out went very smoothly
We asked for a quiet room and we got one (409). Although there was a party in the hotel we did not notice any noise. The room is very well soundproofed, we even did not hear the elevator near our room. We got a rather large room with a large double bed with a nightstand on each side. The two mattresses were excellent. Although the website indicates that all rooms have a minibar, ours did not have one. There is a large LCD-TV and, as far as I could see, channels only in German language. There was no air-conditioner, which did not bother us at all and which is rather common in northern Europe. There are a large wardrobe and a smaller one with a pair of drawers both with beautiful Bavarian (?) motifs, a great coach and textile floor coverings. The bathroom is rather large and has an excellent shower, even on the 4th. floor there is plenty of water. Alas there is no safety grip in the shower cabin. There is only liquid soap/shower gel/shampoo, all in one. Other amenities include a shower cap, a shoe horn, sewing kit and two towels per person. Room and bathroom are very clean.
Breakfast buffet is very good and abundant, with different kinds of strolls (all white) and two kinds of brown bread. There is a large variety of jams, fresh fruit, meat and cheese products, two kinds of yoghurt, etc. the breakfast was included in the price of 103,00 euro.
The hotel is very recommendable.

We stayed at the Hotel Adler for some friends' wedding, and it was absolutely wonderful! The hotel is centrally located in Gross-Gerau, which is a great place to explore on foot. The train station is a short hike away. We rented a car, and this was the perfect location to use as a base to explore southwestern Germany. We drove to Frankfurt, Oppenheim, Mainz, Trier, Rothenburg, and Stuttgart. Easy access to the Autobahns, and just a 15-minute drive to the Frankfurt airport. The hotel is a quaint, family-owned establishment, and the owners were friendly and welcoming. After the first night, they insisted on transferring us to a larger room to better accommodate our family of three, but the smaller room would easily have sufficed. Both rooms were incredibly comfortable. The smaller room had a combination tub/shower. The bigger room had only a small shower, but a very spacious bathroom and living area. The beds (one double for us and a pull-out sofa for our son) were very comfortable. The rooms included a refrigerator, and there were at least two markets within walking distance where we stocked up on snacks of fruit, chocolate and sparkling water. The hotel staff was superb! They were eager to be helpful, and spoke fluent English. The same was true of the restaurant. The seasonal menu was outstanding (especially the asparagus soup). The hotel breakfast was really quite impressive (and very European) -- assorted fresh breads, jams, Nutella, meats, cheeses, fruit, cereal, soft-boiled eggs, etc. The wedding reception was also held at the hotel, and it was spectacular. The staff did an incredible job setting up, decorating, and serving. The catered meal was absolutely incredible. (The pasta with truffles was my favorite!) And the room was perfect for hosting a dinner and dance. The hotel was very safe, and any fears we had about traveling in a foreign country with our 10-year-old son were quickly alleviated by the hotel staff. They took excellent care of the whole family! We will definitely be going back to Hotel Adler!!

The hotel is centrally located which is perfect to have a walk around this lovely town.
We had our own car which is a definate advantage as I believe public transport is not the best.
Rooms and bathroom are of a very good size. Beds are comfortable, though we had 2 mattresses put together to make the double bed. Single duvets was a bonus.
Downside was no in room coffee making facilities. Though I understand that is quite common in Germany. Also we had a room on the first floor and had a bit of noise from a "Party", though not too serious.
Reception staff were friendly. Rooms clean.
Overall The Adler is pretty good value for money and we are likely to stay again.

Unlike the best "sterile" Hotel chains this Hotel offers all of the ammenities of the mass market at a lower price with the benefit of local Gemuetlichkeit. Wonderful modern rooms, great dining, superb staff and atmospere, and central location to a host of historical sites make this a great Hotel. Although it caters to business visitors it welcomes tourists with open arms. As a matter of fact the business patrons miss out on a lot of what this Hotel has to offer. Just a word to any staff member and you will be surprised of what is worth seeing within the vicinity as short as a 2 to 30 minute trip. Close to the Autobahn(s) which can take you in any direction. Distance to the Frankfurt Airport can be measured in minutes, It took me a mere 15 minutes for the short drive from the hotel to the airport. This was an awesome Hotel, it would take a small book to convey all the great impressions I am left with.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great to be in.

If you are looking for a hotel near or outside Frankfurt and you have your own transport this is a good alternative.

The restaurant is very good, and has excellent seasonal choice. I have stayed here several times and the asperagus menu last month was outstanding. Breakfast choice in the morning is good too but as this is mainly a business hotel get there early as otherwise there is not much choice of breads.

Few things to note:

1) Single rooms are what it says, a single bed and the bathroom will have a shower only with basic toiletries.
2) If you are planning to arrive late on a Sunday pls let them know so they will keep the room key in a locable safe outside the hotel as there is no night porter, on sunday evenings also the restaurant is closed as are many others in town.
3) The pool is tiny and can only be used for a dip as swimming is not possible
4) Internet access is not always free, sometimes it can be included in the roomrate when they have a special promotion, most times it is not.
