“Good Place in St. Lo”
Reviewed May 21, 2013

This Hotel worked perfectly for us. It was located with easy access to the rest of Normandy. There were restuarants nearby as well as a backery. The room was clean and had a great view of the fortifications. I would stay here again.

Nice hotel, well placed for visiting Normandy beaches and handy for city sights. Room was clean and comfortable although not very big. Nice bathroom with good shower. Decor a bit dated. We had the Express breakfast which was really good value for 7 euro. Only stayed one night but would stay there again.

I would not say that this is a very good hotel. However, you will have a hard time finding a better hotel in or near Saint-Lo.

I stay regularly at this hotel. Every room is different. Some are small, others are large to very large. Some have been renewed, others are a bit older.

There is no air conditioning in the rooms, so it can be hot in summer. There is a bar below the hotel which can be noisy on some nights (can't sleep with open window).

The restaurant looks rather dull, but the food is excellent. The breakfast is the standard you get in any Mercure hotel.

Good basic accommodations and good value. The rooms are clean and quiet. The breakfast falls a bit short of expectations. All in all, not a 4 or 5 star but probably one of the nicest place to stay in Saint Lo.

We stayed for one night on the way back from a holiday in the Dordogne. Found the room very clean and comfortable. The bed was comfortable and the pillows fine (I hate hard pillows). The bathroom was great with a good shower and a separate toilet. We overlooked the castle at the front of the hotel, and although it was a little noisy outside (we had the window open as it was warm), the traffic died down fairly soon and the night was quiet.

The staff were very sweet and helpful. The food in the restaurant was okay and the wine good.

We were able to take our little dog into the hotel, which was the main reason for our booking it. He is quiet and no trouble so we felt confident to take him.

Staying at the Mercure was a pleasurable experience and I would definitely book again and recommend.

If you want a night tossing and turning listening to the music, shouting and arguments from the QG club below, then Mercure St. Lo is for you. If, however, you need your sleep it is best avoided. An otherwsie perfeclt decent hotel nicely located but rather functional and a little tired - not quite living up to the the normal Mercure brand reputation. But not for sleep - at least not at the weekend when people congregate outside.

Some aspects were also on the tacky side - paper cups for tea and coffee (and strictly rationed supplies of milk etc.); plastic beakers in the bathroom and no working fan or windows for the loo (no, not nice). Bed comfy, breakfast reasonable. A little impersonal and expensive for what the quality (very expensive for a sleepless night!)

Room Tip: The Superior room is best, but go for one at the back of the hotel if at the weekend, views not as g...

Expensive compared to Ibis (another Accor brand). Not that much better either. Room was on the road side which meant it was noisy with window open - which it had to be as there was no air conditioning in the room (@€90 per night without breakfast!). Won't be back.

Room Tip: Ask for one with air conditioning.
