I stayed with my husband at Le Grand Hotel earlier this month for 3 nights. The hotel is located on the grand canal and close to shops, restaurants and some lovely patisseries. The hotel is quite grand and beautifully restored in the art nouveau style - it is simply stunning.
I booked a shower room, and we were upgraded to a small suite overlooking the canal. The room was perfect - large bed, big french windows opening onto a balcony and lovely sea-theme.
Staff could have been a bit more friendly and attentive, and there is a slight smell from the canal in the foyer, but none in the rooms.

We have not stayed in the hotel, but had dinner in the restaurant - it was fantastic. Had the best oysters ever! BTW Sete is a charming town worth spending an afternoon or more... The hotel, overlooking the canal - the heart of Sete, has lots of charm, a sort of genuine feel of "fin de siecle". Would love to come back and stay for the weekend.

For the positives, this hotel is very centrally located, right on the main canal. I thought it had a lot of charm. The woman at the front desk was very friendly, and the place has a real mom-and-pop feel to it. I stayed here during the water-jousting festival -- quite a cultural spectacle to see! And the food in Sete is wonderful -- some of the best seafood I've ever had -- all on offer at the lovely market and at the restaurants.

For the negatives, if you are a light sleeper.... don't visit Sete. If you are a high-end traveler, don't visit Sete. I thought that Sete was beautiful -- much like Venice -- but it has clearly seen its better days and it is now, unfortunately, rather run-down. And it seems as if a whole lot of people come here to run amuck late into the evenings, with street cafes entering into contests to see who can play their music the loudest.

This is a wonderful hotel, located at the junction of the canals. If you are fortunate (as we were) to stay in room 342, you have a fantastic view of Sete from all four floor-to-ceiling windows. The hotel is about as far from "corporate" as it is possible to get - and we loved it. The decor is quirky but it works and the public spaces are beautiful. Our room was spacious, immaculately clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom was modern, and again, clean, clean, clean. The only minor criticism is the space available in the (separate) loo - it was very, very snug, and a bit of a challenge to get the door closed once you were in there. But as we didn't plan on spending too much time in there, it wasn't really a problem. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the hotel parking was well situated. All in all, a great experience, and a splendid antidote to all those bland multi-national chain hotels.

Room Tip: Room 342 is at the top of the hotel, situated on the corner of the building, so you have fantastic views along the canals.

We had a great stay at this lovely hotel with nice views of the sea channels.

The room we stayed was really spacious, well preserved and functional. There is complete silence at night and mattresses are ok but not excellent. Breakfast above average, but you have to ask for second helpings since the buffet stays empty for long. Staff really helpful and kind. Parking easy-did not use the Hotel's-although in the heart of Sete.

However the unique characteristic is that it travels you to another era in the start of the previous century, connecting you with all that classic literature books like that of Thomas Mann.

We will come back for sure..
