Stayed over in Sete for night, the arrival time was after the closing time of reception, I wrote an email to hotel, and got arranged very properly. First impression was good. Then The decoration was nice, adopting a feeling of marine just like the city itself. It's within 5 minute walk to SNCF train station, and you can walk to city center within 10 mins. There is a seeminly famous pizza take-away stop on the opposite side of the main road, just outside the famous theatre, it's just great!

We knew we hadn't spent a fortune on our stay here, but we were delighted at what value it was. The owner is charming, helpful and chatty. Though the hotel is a good 15 minutes walk from the main town, it is in a nice area and very handy for the station.
Breakfast was very plentiful, a good choice of breads, honeys, cheese and jams.
Our room was huge with seating area, large double bed, seperate loo and shower. The nautical nick-nacks are a little twee but amusing. Good selection of papers and magazines - and books for children at reception.
I would stay here again.

We had not observed that the hotel closed in the afternoon. This could be seen on the print-out from the online form but not in the confirmation email. This left us stranded in a bar for two hours but there are worse things in life.
The hotel is very nice and has been renovated recently I think. There is some old furniture here and there which gives it a bit of atmosphere. We did not have a view from our room. The location is excellent for walking from the railway station. We did not have the breakfast since they offer a good alternative for half the price at a nearby cafe. The manager was very helpful (we did not see any other personnel, probably explains the closing hours).

After all the amazing reviews perhaps I was expecting a little much but it was overall not a bad experience... We just weren't overwhelmed.

The check in was very friendly. The rooms clean and we barely even ran into any other guests and this was during one of the more busy periods.
The walk into town took about 15 minutes at a brisk pace.

Unfortunately the water to the hotel seemed to have been cut off on the morning of our last day. We were told this by one of the maids outside the room rather than by the management. We stayed in the room waiting for the water to be turned on so that we could shower before we left but instead got an unimpressed call from recpetion saying that we had 15 minutes to check out.
Obviously this didnt give enough time for us all to shower. When I explained this to reception I was met with a shrug.

Bit of a shame, as we loved Sete.

The reception at the hotel is not open until 5pm. This was made clear on booking confirmation but not when booking. However, the owner saw us arrive around 4pm and let us in. He was very helpful throughout our stay and spoke excellent English. The hotel abounds with nice decorating touches, antiques being dotted around all over. It is about a 10 min walk to the main part of Sete. There was a good traditional French breakfast.
Anyone driving to Sete should know that parking is an issue everywhere there. Street parking outside the hotel is possible if a space becomes vacant. However, you wonder how the locals have fitted their cars into some of the spaces, until you realise that they use their car’s bumpers literally.

Good location - an easy stroll from the train station and an easy stroll to the restaurant/tourist areas. The hotel has wifi and a computer in the lobby that you can use. The room was a little on the small side, but I saw other rooms which were much larger. There is an elevator that services all the floors. Would stay there again if I ever returned to Sete.

Le National was a great stay. Just far enough away (no more than 8 mins walk) from the centre of town to be a relaxed, quiet and enjoyable experience. We had a car and there was always multple parking spaces available, and the train station is just at the end of the street. There were enough options available for food and drink within 100 meters to keep anyone fussy happy (although the italian restaurant next door became a favorite after a day's hiking around the town and surrounding areas). It is a distance from the beach but that was fine for us - we wanted to experience a working French port town and a beach was the last thing on our mind. The price was great, the layout of the room terrific and we loved the interior design which appeared to have been done very recently. The only suggestion would be to make the dining room available for guests after breakfast so you can find some where other than your room to read with a coffee ... But that's the owners decision is guess. all in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place.
