“A class apart....”

The hotel is superb, Christa and Jan are the most welcoming and helpful hosts you could wish for and Velez Malaga is a buzzy town with lots of very reasonably priced bars and restaurants.
Contrary to earlier reviews - whilst some Spanish language would be helpful - we found little difficulty conversing - many of the local people speak reasonable English and were friendly and helpful.
Most bars offer tapas - beer and single tapas for under 2 euros - and we paid no more than 50 euros for a very good quality meal for 2 inclusive of drinks throughout the evening....generally you could enjoy a meal and drinks for considerably less.
Access to nearby Torre Del Mar - the nearest beach - was 16 euros return by taxi - only c 10 mins trip.
We can only agree with the earlier hotel reviews in respect of the hotel decor and ambience.
Highly recommended - our thanks to Christa and Jan for a wonderful break.

Having wanted to stay at the palacio blanco since watching the renovation project filmed for TV we finally booked for three nights and have just returned. Not sure whether we wanted to share how we felt about our stay as we wanted to keep it a secret then no one else would stay and we could have it to ourselves, but we HAVE to tell anyone that is considering going, JUST BOOK A BREAK AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!
From the start christa and jean made us feel so welcome, from the coffee and pastries on arrival to the impromptu nibbles to go with our glass of wine on the roof terrace in the evening sun.
They have put so much thought in to the interior design and it truly is stunning. Our room was on the roof terrace and waking up each morning to the sound of the birds singing and being able to make fresh coffee and sit and admire the mountain views was something else.
The town of Velez was typically old Spanish and no rowdy tourist bars, just local tapas bars and cafes where you could sit and chill out, the cost of a meal for two with a bottle of Rioja and beers about 30 euros maximum, cheaper if you you just have a couple of tapas and a beers.
We shall certainly be going back to the palacio blanco for a longer stay next time, a MASSIVE. Thank you to christa and jean for making our long awaited visit so special. So SSsshhhh, don't tell any one else! Xx

Room Tip: Roof terrace rooms are fab

We used this hotel as a base for our 2 days visit to Velez-Malaga and its surrounding area like Torre del Mar and Nerja. Also attended a wedding in Frigiliana. Vélez-Málaga itself is a market city and "bustling market town and supply centre for the regions farmers", which is 4 km inland from Torre del Mar. Unlike the coastal resort this place is not dominated by the tourist industry.

Hotel Palacio Blanco is nicely located. It catered to our needs. It is located in a nice street, close to many eateries and a few groceries/stores. It is a boutique little hotel and found it cosy.

Just would like to point out regarding tiled floor and bathroom/shower area. If you have weak legs, due to medical reasons, just be warned that you can slip easily. It will be nice to have an option to use a rubber mat for extra protection. Everything about this hotel is spot on, clean and quiet.

We slept very well as the room we were staying in was quite airy and cool, unlike other hotels where you find them typically warm and stuffy. Jan and Christa (the owners) are doing a great job. They also provide services re taking you to nearby places such as Frigiliana or Malaga airport. We used one of these services.

There was an occasion (first night) when some guests, staying next door to our room were hanging out late at night, chatting at the courtyard and also talking on the phone. The noise could be heard. It just interrupted our sleep.

We have just had fantastic city break , we arrived late at night to find the owner stood outside to guide us there . It only gets better , we can not stop talking about our excellent experiences .
Christa is a perfect host in a perfect boutique hotel . The whole place was spotless , the feel of the place like no other , we have stopped in many a hotel all over the world but the friendly feel of this hotel has not been matched . There is even a honesty bar at very reasonable prices , the town has many bars etc which have fantastic food and drink at unbelievable prices . The short 5 minute drive to Torre Del Mar is well worth it , again a very clean and up market place with very good prices , far better than the other resorts further south .
We will be returning to this gem of a hotel , town and the best hospitality around .
A big thank you to Christa .
This place is visiting a true Spanish town not full of tourists , just very friendly people glad to serve you .

Room Tip: Room 8 was perfect on top floor

Jan and Christa were the perfect hosts. We stayed recently with the family and we were totally spoilt. The hotel itself is beautiful, the atmosphere is very relaxed and the place is tucked into a lovely part of the village.

The breakfast is also great. I don't think I have ever met so many people who have come and stayed over and over at the same place. It was recommended by a friend and we could see why immediately.

Honestly even if your not planning on going to Velez Malaga you should just to enjoy this little gem.

Thank you Christa and Jan for an amazing few days.

We had stayed at Palacio Blanco a number of times over the past 5 years while it was run by the previous owners Nick and Lesley and had always had wonderful stays. We were a little anxious about returning but I very pleased to say that we needn't have worried, as the new owners, Jan and Christa are wonderful hosts. Jan picked us up at the airport and we immediately knew that we would get on and chatted for the whole journey. Christa was ready to meet us when we arrived and she was extremely warm and welcoming. The hotel is superb, spotlessly clean and a real gem. Breakfast is a relaxing experience with the added advantage of now being able to eat in the garden under the fruit trees. The subtle changes Jan and Christa have made have enhanced what was already a first rate hotel. My husband started to suffer with an old back injury while we were there and Christa was exceptional in the care and concern she showed in making sure he got the medication he needed. All in all, it was a superb stay and we are already planning our next trip for May next year.

Room Tip: In our opinion, the roof top rooms are the best, but to be honest, there aren't any bad rooms.

Stayed this week at the Palacio Blanco and what a fantastic place. Have been wanting to stay since I first saw it on uk tv restoration programme 5 years ago and it was definitely worth the wait. Jan and Christa have taken it over in 2013 and were perfect hosts. Christa's breakfasts in the relaxing open air courtyard set us up well for the day. The roof terrace was superb with great views of the surrounding countryside. Plenty of bespoke areas for relaxing in the sun or shade. The rooms were stylish and well equipped with superb bathrooms
