“Lovely cottage - wish we could have stayed longer!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 16, 2013

We had one night at Hestasport as we travelled round Iceland. We were in text contact with the owner and they were there to meet us at the office when we arrived at 8.30pm, and they were so friendly and welcoming. We were in the little cottage for 2 people, which is outside the circle of houses around the hotpot, which was ideal for us as we like to be out the way. We found the cottage to be imaculate inside and finshed to a very high standard. They had also thought of all the extras you could need e.g. there were crocs and a dressing gown to wear to walk down to the hotpot in. There was even a chocolate on the pillow! We used the oven to cook tea and it was all really clean. We didn't get in the hotpot until 10pm but it was lovely and warm and relaxing with just the two of us in there, and the northern lights even made a brief appearance! Our only regret was that we had such a short amount of time there as we loved the cabin - we arrived at 8.30 and left by 10.30am. Next time we go back to the North of Iceland we will definitely stay here for a few nights and use it as a touring base.

This little village of cottages offers you a very calm & relaxing environment. The cottage was quite big and nicely decorated. We liked the seating area and ofc the kitchen, fully equipped (fridge, oven, toaster, microwave, cooking plates, ..) The only tiny disappointment was the lack of coffee in the morning. We had breakfast in the hotel which was average, we have had better in our previous hotels/guesthouses.
The hot tub is in the middle, but we didn't try it as we were too tired from a long day of driving & sightseeing.

Well i was there Offseason, so it was for a very good Price.
Horsebackriding was also available but incredibly expensive, however we had some fun.

These cottages are lovely. All are beautifully decorated and color coordinated in their decorations. The cottages come fully equipped including robes and shoes for the beautiful stone hot pot. The price is a little more than the other cottages we stayed in but they do the cleaning for you and linen is included so there are no additional charges for that. The towels are wonderfully soft as well.

The service was absolutely excellent!! Sarah was incredibly prompt and helpful with my email inquiries and our check-in was great as well.

We stayed in one of the wooden cabins and it was like the Tardis, small and cute on the outside but really roomy inside and everything you could want in the way of kitchen equipment.. The weather was a bit chilly to start with but there are plenty of radiators and it really warmed up quickly. We came up from Reykjavick on the bus to Varmahild and were met and driven the short distance to the cottage. There is a supermarket, cafe and tourist information centre within walking distance, but the cottages are quite isolated and very tranquil. After the sun came out we ate breakfast every day at the table and chairs outside and it was lovely. In the centre of the cottages is a hot tub - charmingly described as a hot pot - a hot natural spring pool which really did my skin good. There is a smell of sulphur from the water but I soon got used to it. The riding centre is just wonderful and I couldn't get enough of the Icelandic horses - they are great. You can also go rafting. The staff are incredibly helpful and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble - they really want you to have a good time. We certainly did.

Bring binoculars, good walking boots and riding gear. You will have to sterilise your riding things according to strict regulations beforehand - the Icelandic horses are disease free.

The cottage was one of the favourite places we stayed on this trip and was also the cheapest. The cottages are set up above the tiny village and seem very peaceful. The check in was simple and the instructions to find the cottage were very good. The cottage itself was larger then we expected and had everything we needed. The hotpot was nice after spending the day in the car. We ate in that night as the options for eating in the area are limited I believe to just the cafe at the petrol station. Overall we loved this place and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

The service, the adventures and the most wonderful cabin ever. This was the highlight of our trip and I would have loved to stay longer. Whitewater rafting, horse back riding, hiking, this is just beautiful and the most memorable time. If you wanted to make your trip less expensive this is the place, you can cook for yourself, they have everything in the kitchenette. I would spend most of my time here next time.
