Authentic Greek food is served by a husband and wife team in this tiny inland restaurant. The dishes are simple but delicious. Try the Dolmades (stuffed vine leaves) and the local wine!

We dined here as a party of 4 with mixed results. The local dishes were excellent as was the service but the chicken was lacking meat and the wine a little unusual in that we ordered a litre carafe which arrived in two 500ml vessels. The first was like a light tawny port while the second was scented. Overall a positive experience, not recommended if you are conservative about what you eat though since the available dishes are limited

Not a big menu
Not young service
Not a gourmet cuisine
Not a fancy place

But the closest to traditional tavern you can find in area. The owner will serve you with all her heart to please you and trust me she knows how to cook. The portions are more than enough and the products that are served are smelling Greece. Spotted a few meters by the port near the central church in a quiet place. Try it undoubtly.

We came to Galahidi by boat and wanted to avoid the noisy bars and tavernas on the harbour side. It is worth exploring the little cobbled streets that lead up to the big church/cathedral, and we found the small family run Albatros taverna. The outside seating runs down one side of the tiny road under some lime trees. The young waiter immediately brought us a large bottle of water which was very welcome, as t was still over 30degC at 9pm. He explained what they had from the menu that night, and we prefer to eat in the Greek way with no definitive starters, but just have the food in the order it arrives when it is ready. We chose the octopus, which was delicious, not chewy, thinly sliced with a hint of vinegar. We also had a freshly made salad. After that came a moussaka, which was a fairly small portion, and an excellent plate of port roasted in the oven, which was the most tender and flavoursome pork I've had for a while. We had a plate of Greek green beans too, and shared everything amongst the two of us. With half a litre of excellent house wine, and a beer, the total, bill was 37 euro, which we thought was very good value.
I would, recommend the Albatross for its simple home good food, very good service and excellent setting.

We had an excellent basic but well prepared and very tasty meal. If you want a traditional home cooked low cost meal then its worth walking up the hill where the big church is to enjoy the food in this cosy taverna.
