“Lovely host and great room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

We had three nights here. The host was wonderfully accommodating to our needs and requests. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Chateau-Gontier is a gem of place to visit and sites were all in easy walking distance from the hotel. Thanks!

Driving from Charente to Cherbourg and needing an overnight stay we chose Le Parc Hotel in the beautiful riverside town of Chateau Gontier. We had booked in advance and arrived slightly later than anticipated on a very wet Monday evening. The Hotel was easy to find and ideally located within easy walking distance of the main square. Anne-Laure the owner welcomed us warmly and took us to our room which was located in a beautifully converted building just a few steps from the main hotel. A lovely warm room awaited us which was beautifully appointed and which boasted a very spacious and modern bathroom with wonderful shower. Concerned that there were too few towels, Anne -Laure brought us more. There was a tea/coffee tray, flat screen television and lots of local information as well.

Anne -Laure recommended a local restaurant within easy walking distance of the hotel which was very good value for money ( always important at the end of the holiday) and which was excellent. After a good nights sleep we enjoyed a delicious typically French breakfast with buttery warm croissants, fabulous coffee and a buffet table laden with all the delicious morsels that makes breakfasting in France so good! We met another couple from Ireland who always stay here on their way to the Dordogne and we will be following their good example as we make this journey three times each year. Can't wait to return and will book a room in the main Hotel next time as these also look lovely. Will also arrive in time to take advantage of the newly opened beautiful Spa located in the grounds and the outdoor pool too if the weather permits!

We were just stopping through. The host was very helpful and found us a room. Recommended a great restaurant that was very reasonably priced. Safe and secure grounds with plenty of parking. Very happy with the room and the showers are excellent.

Room Tip: Ground floor there is no lift

We have just returned from our fourth visit to this very welcoming hotel. On previous occasions we had always stayed for just one night, but because of the high standards and the warm welcome that we have always received from the proprietor, Mme Alleard, we chose to stay for 10 days and to explore the town and the environs. The Parc accomodates just 22 guests, thus Mme always has time for each one, greetings are consistently warm and enthusiastic. She is well informed about the historic town and the area, plus activities and attractions. The hotel has always offered a very good standard of comfort; we enjoyed comfortable beds, an excellent wet shower room + toilet. These are maintained and cleaned to very high standards. The grounds offer calm and quiet. However, the newest facilities are a great attraction: an outdoor heated swimming pool complete with comfortable sunloungers and sunshades with an adjoining luxurious jacuzzi, sauna and fitness suite. The optional generous breakfasts are fresh and varied. The town and surroundings offer a wealth of restaurants for those requiring lunch or dinner. This was one of our most relaxing and satisfactory holidays as well as excellent value for money. We are determined to return; there is so much more to explore.

Room Tip: Discuss your requirements with the proprietor; she and her husband speak good english.

Stayed two nights here as part of family cycling holiday along river Mayenne, arranged by Inntravel. Immediately made at home by the very friendly owner. Spacious walled grounds, with pool, jacuzzi and gym- all in very good order. The area has a sleepy feel, and is only a few minutes by foot from the river. A very relaxing end to our trip.

Our rooms were in a separate building from the old house, possibly renovated stables. Our room had a newly remodelled bathroom, though the upgrade is still pending for the room our daughter had next door.
The gym, pool and jacuzzi were excellent. The pool is heated. Parking on the grounds. Quiet. Spotlessly clean. We only stayed one night, but the hotel would make a relaxing base for a longer visit. There are extensive grounds, with plenty of seating - away from the pool.
No A/C - but we knew that in advance.
Only negative : breakfast finishes at 09:00 Tuesday to Friday, which was far too early for us. We would have liked to have taken breakfast in the lovely dining room in the old house.

All the Park Hotel members thank you for your commentary.
We have actually set up a fitness space for the well-being of our customers : hammam, sauna, jacuzzy, sports room, massage room and cloakroom.
This space is only for our customers and is free.
As for breakfasts : we are very sorry you couldn't have any, in fact there are some hours but at this time of the year we well know to change them; unfortunatelywe forgot to tell you about it when you arrived; we will do better another time.
Sorry again
We hope to welcome you another time when you come around here.
sincerely yours

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2013

We stayed here for 3 nights while in France for a nearby wedding. While this isn't the style of Hotel I would normally go for, in essentials this 3 star Hotel was excellent. My friend's family is from this part of France and this Hotel was their top recommendation for this area.

The room we had on the top floor of the old house was quite small but it was bright, very clean and had a large comfortable bed. The manager had given us a choice of two rooms on the top floor which was nice as we knew they were almost booked out with many wedding guests, and after looking at the second room which was bigger it still made me grateful of the smaller brighter room I chose. The day after the wedding the manager was very kind to offer one of their best rooms on the first floor for no extra cost. I really appreciated this and they moved all our luggage down for us while we were out for the day.

Breakfast was very good, I enjoyed it everyday. The food seemed very fresh and good quality.

The hotel lends bikes to guests for free and there is a very nice cycle path along the banks of the La Mayenne river which we really enjoyed.

The hotel has a swimming pool outside which is free for guests. Unfortunately I did not have time to use it. It has a small roof on it which I assume helps to keep it clean and warm. The water temperature is supposed to be 24 degrees which felt a little cold when I put my hand in to check the temperature. The Hotel appears to be in the process of building a spa facility around the pool. So if you have seen pictures of a pool surrounded by grass lawn that's not what it looks like any more.

There is free parking on the Hotel grounds and out on the street if you arrive late. The Hotel locks the gate at night. There is 24 pedestrian access to the grounds using a security gate with a PIN number.

Room Tip: The best rooms are on the first floor of the main house.
