I stayed for a week at the International club in Kabul and had a good experience. I was a western female travelling in Afghanistan for work and found the staff to be very courteous, respectful and helpful. The facilities are good with above expected cleanliness of rooms with running hot and cold water and good air conditioning. The hotel has a swimming pool and tennis courts, I didn't swim but it looked well maintained.

The breakfasts are included and have a good range and come with coffee and juice. I ate dinner twice and it was nice food and you can also get drinks there. The staff were extremely helpful and polite and I felt the security was adequate with the gate constantly manned.

Only downside was I had some noisy pipes but my two other companions has no noise at all.I am sure if I had wanted to change it would not have been a problem as they are very accommodating. On the whole, nice and quiet at night.

I would recommend this hotel for any westerners looking to stay in Kabul.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back may be quieter?

I fully agree with Brian. The International Club has all the necessary facilities (heating/cooling, TV, good internet, decent water supply, etc.) but what sets it apart is an exceptional level of service. You are always greeted as a long lost friend, the room service menu is excellent (as is the kitchen in general) and if you have a problem, someone will attend to it...immediately. I was there in May (again) when the Club hosted a music evening for outside guests, which got very loud. Next day, I received a personal visit, written apology, flowers and a free dinner by way of apology. Having travelled all around the world, I've never experienced a hotel which cared about staying guests to that extent. I say, well done for a small hotel in a difficult environment!

Room Tip: Book on 1st floor - the view is better and noise is less.

I completely disagree with you, international club is the most beautiful hotel in kabul
security is the best, break fast excellent, dinner is excellent, i have stayed there many times
it has all sport facilities, tennis, gym, snooker and swimming pool with very hospitable staff, clean room, very good services every day, very good INTERNET sometimes poor signal but generally its very good the most important thing is that its very secure with many guards and not target place, i recommend all the westerner to go there,

The trade off for Kabul hotels is about safety versus a reasonable hotel quality. The International Club hotel is cold, drafty, smelly and generally bad. I hated it. BUT good hotels in Kabul have lots of western guests and therefore become targets for the Taliban. Bad hotels are not targets. So what is more important for you? The International Club is safe, and that one fact makes up for all it's faults.

The dining room was recently varnished, and stinks so bad it makes your eyes water. The entire hotel is cold and drafty. The security is good, and the lack of guests makes this a good safe place to stay. It is expensive for the quality. You will be miserable, but safe.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms, but avoid street views.
