“A real 'chill out' - Great!”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

My wife & I stayed at the Zakantha Beach last week (May/June) having chosen it for its location & knowing that it was a relatively small hotel. We were very pleasantly surprised at the standard, cleanliness & service of the hotel. Our room was exactly as you would expect from a holiday hotel, and was cleaned every day. The staff were excellent, from Nicki on reception, through Alex & Luciano on breakfast/snack bar, through to the wonderful Monica on the evening bar....what a character, she was a delight. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone wanting good value, cleanliness, character and a beachfront (and how) position.
The breakfasts, although a bit 'samey' were of very good standard. we were glad, however, that we opted for B&B, as there were many excellent restaurants in the resort, particularly 'Peppermint', 'Athena' and 'Simply Greek'. The prices were very reasonable, with a 2/3 course meal for two with a litre of wine cost E30/40.
This was our first time in Zante, but we shall definately return, and to the Zakantha Beach!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms also have a side view of the sea.

Just spent a week in early May at this hotel booked as a late availability on Thompson's website. Excellent VFM. They are some very accurate descriptions from previous reviewers so I won't repeat except to say that staff (especially Monica) are friendly and helpful.

This hotel has about 140 rooms and like I said, we were the first arrivals, being only a dozen in the first week of the season. No fights over sunbeds and umbrellas and the pool was adequate if somewhat cold (but that's May for you). We had a room facing north towards Zakynthos town, probably the best side. Sea view would have no sun at all except early morning and the road facing side a no-no.

My main thoughts concern the time of the season. What would it be like later in July /August? very noisy I suspect due to concrete corridors (at night with the sound of stilettos) and day time with the quads racing up and down. Certainly there would be a fight at the pool as there are only about 40 beds and the beach, postage stamp size. Luckily with the May temperature we didn't need (what appear to be) fridges and aircon which other users have commented on.

Overall an enjoyable break in a clean hotel with pleasant service. Fine for couples and older visitors.

Room Tip: odd numbers from first floor up facing pool and Zakynthos town. There is a partial seaview. Don'...

I stayed here with my boyfriend for a week in June 2012, first impressions was - very clean, basic standard hotel.. The room we stayed in was no. 118, very basic but extremely clean, we had the garden view (really wanted a sea view, but nevermind). The garden view overlooked onto other hotels balconies and a patch of grass which consisted of a few cats roaming about.
There was an ant infestation on our balcony - so we immediately went down to reception, who then gave us some ant spray to get rid of them and they never came back throughout our stay.

The cleaners cleaned our room everyday, and also changed our bed sheets everyday aswell! Even though, it stated on the room instructions that it would be done every 2 days, we think it was done everyday for us because my boyfriend suffers from eczema, which he left tiny little blood spots on the bed sheets, but everyday it was gone!

We never went in the pool as it was a bit small, and all the sunbeds around it was taken. We went to the sea instead which is a 10 second walk! The sea was very clean, you could see tiny fish swimming in the shallow rocks. There was no watersports on this beach as its a pretty small and quiet beach, but soaks up most of the sun all day round!

There wasn't really any entertainment at the hotel, but its only a short walk down the road where there is lots going on!

Overall, we thought this place was rather basic, not really 4 stars but definitely 3 stars. Very very clean, just a bit boring! But then again, who stays in the hotel all day anyway?

Just explore Zakynthos and you will have a great time! :)

Room Tip: Room 118 is a garden view, if you get this room and don't want a garden view, ask for another on...

Stayed B&B at Zakantha Beach Hotel 25th September 2012 for one week, great place if you want to chill out & relax! The Hotel is right on the Beach (public beach), the Sea was very calm & not very deep (very safe for kids), you do pay 5 euros a day for 2 sunbeds & a parasol which we didn't mind. There was a pool but it was a bit cold, lots of sunbeds around it though which were free!! There is a little beach bar where snacks & drinks can be bought, very nice for mid day snack!! The breakfast at the Hotel was a mix of English & continental, with lots of Tea & Coffee! All the staff were friendly & helpful, we paid 7 euro a day for the air con (which is normal in Greece) and 2 euros a day for the fridge which was a mean!! We didn't bother with a safe box, we were just careful about putting things away safely!! The local bars & restaurants were fab, we tried most of them and never had a bad meal!! There is a local bus to various places, and very cheap, we didn't bother with taxies!! Then there is Monica, she is the lovely lady who serves drinks at the bar in the evenings, she is very funny, very interesting and a pleasure to meet!! :-) The rooms were kept very clean, towels changed every day, the bed was quite hard but didn't stop you sleeping!! Overall, we would stay there again as it is in a great location and easy to get to from the airport!!!

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, ask for a side or sea view room!!

Just got back from 2 weeks at the Zakantha Beach Hotel (ending 30th Sept 2012) with my girlfriend and the main thing to say about it is that we had a really great holiday.

The room is 'no frills' but has everything you need and was immaculately cleaned every day.

Decent water pressure and hot water in the shower.

The hotel backs onto a nice section of sandy beach, which is very shallow (you can walk out 50m or so). There is a charge of 5 euro for sunbeds and the section of beach there is quite small but we never had a problem getting some (but it was end of season). Free lielows and things.

There is a great snack bar on the beach which does good food.

The location is great - 5-10 minute walk into Argassi with a good choice of places to eat.
(The best for us was "Athina" and "Palmyra" restaurants)

Slight downsides for us:
the aircon (7 euro a day) was a bit temperamental - I had to try various different modes to get it to work properly but ok in the end (turn it off/on!) and not too noisy.

The TV channels are very limited for non-greek speakers!

I had the worlds flatest pillow at first but they provided more as soon as I asked about it

Be aware there is a charge for using the safe and the fridge.

When we were there it was mostly middle aged and older couples....and very relaxing, if you want to party hard you should go to Laganas really.

The pool is nice but quite small.

Ultimately we found this was a fantastic hotel to kick back, unwind and relax.

Just come back from 2 weeks holiday in the Zakantha Beach hotel. First stop, reception - a charge of 164€ for safe, fridge and air conditioning, OUCH! Also 5€ per day for the privilege of using a sunbed on the beach. These charges add at least £200 to the cost of your holiday!!!!!!! so be prepared!
Rooms were cleaned daily and towels, bedding etc changed ever 2/3 days. Food was acceptable but choice was minimal. No Internet available unless you paid through your service provider (Cosmote or 02 here) at £1.99 per 24 hours or 2€ for 15 mins in hotel.
Staff mostly friendly and helpful but embarrassing for all when they berate the poor waiter in Restaurant in view and earshot of all diners. Poor sod!
On a happier note - The sea was wonderful, clear and quite warm.
Will we be returning to this hotel -Not on your Nelly!!!!!

We booked this through EasyJet Holidays who were very good the only down side is you don't get a rep at the hotel but the Thomson rep was great and we went on several trips with Thomsons.

The reason for 2 stars only is rooms and noise! On arrival you have a 50/50 chance of getting a great room or very noisey room. If you get a sea view room or even side view room looking over the pool and car park and the bay with the capital of Zante in it you will no doubt have a great time. There are more rooms in the middle of the hotel looking over the dining and next door's closely built and unfinished walls.

However, there are 24 rooms at the rear of the hotel that are directly on to the busy main road running through Argassi which is busy all day long with coaches, lorries, vans, scooters, quad bikes etc. and to add to it a bar directly opposite that plays loud music until 2-3 in the morning so don't expect any sleep or privacy and be prepared to wave back at the people on the coaches if you are on the first floor as we were and we just didn't use the balcony as we could have a conversation either. Don't epect any sympathy or help from the hotel reception either they were rude and unhelpful and we were told things like "if we move you we have to move everyone!" To top it all we came back to the room one morning just after it had been cleaned to find the room stunk of cigarette smoke and the balcony door left open - we can only assume the cleaners had a cigarette break in the room. From this point of view the room was not the 4 star level they claim.

In addition how many 4 star hotels charge an extra 44 euros for 10 nights for the fridge in the room, the safe deposit box (screwed to the chipboard inside of the wardrobe not a brick wall) and 5 euros a day to use the hotel beds and umbrellas on the beach. Plus there is a home made sign at the car park entrance saying the hotel pool etc. is open to all users not just the clients so expect some locals to join you.

The good things: the hotel is very cleaned and well maintained, bedding and towels changed frequently, the restaurant is good and the choice at breakfast very good. One thing that amused us is the waiters wear smart white hotel shirts but with ripped jeans. The grounds are well maintained but not spacious. The beach is great and sandy and cleaned and maintained by the hotel but it is small and open to all and as I said 5 euros a day to hire the hotel beds and umbrellas. The pool is great but not the largest and its crowded around it so if you use a sunbed next to it expect to get splashed by its users. The rooms are okay internally, bathroom was basic and in our room the shower head fixing was faulty and hose kept kinking and we were so disallusioned by reception we just couldn't be bothered to report it. The majority of staff were all friendly exept the dark haired lady at reception who arranges the room bookings!

Would we go again - definitely not!

Argassi - quitest of the main busy resorts on Zante but not an island for a those wanting to avoiding the 18-30 type resorts such as Laganas and Tsilivi - otherwise try Kefalonia next door a lot less touristy and we loved it last year compared to Zante. One must if you go to Zante is Bochali in the evening over looking the main town Zakynthos and the south of the Island - amazing views!

Room Tip: Pay extra to ensure a sea view only or side view looking over the pool or go elsewhere...
