The Papillon Hotel in Argassi is such a welcoming place. You will have to go a long way to find friendlier people from Dimitra and her family that owned it to Claire and George who worked for them, such lovely people.
The apartment was basic, but we had two big bedrooms one with a double bed and the other with 3 singles, the area around the pool was very nice, the location of the hotel was fantastic you only had to just set foot off the hotel ground and you had enough restaurants to eat a meal in for two weeks without doing the same one twice.
We had some lovely meals our best was at zorbas. we were so shocked at how cheap it was to eat out generally costing a family of 5 around 50 euros for starter, main meal and drinks. we will definatly be returning back to the Papillon. Thanks so much we all had a brilliant holiday.

We stayed at the Papillon for 2 weeks at the end of August and it really was a fantastic holiday.Upon arrival we were greeted by Claire on reception and shown to our 2 bedroom apartment which was situated just behind reception. We had room 257 which was on the top floor of three.
First impressions...really good.

The apartment....

The rooms were really spacious and bright with a door to the balcony from each one. Both rooms had an aircon unit, wardrobe, small dressing table and bedside table. One of the rooms had a double bed and the other had 3 singles.Very basic but everything you need. The kitchen was what you would expect in Greece, the usual 2 ring hob, kettle, pots, pans crockery and utensils. We asked for a toaster and were given one later that first day,but I don't think they have many going spare. The bathroom was nice and clean, all tiled with a small bath and hand held shower,be careful when the floor gets wet as it is very slippery.

The pool area...

We spent most of our days lounging around by the pool which was really nice.It was never any trouble trying to get a sunbed and parasol as there where plenty to go round. There are a few palm trees if you prefer a bit of shade also.Be aware that the pool is 3 metres deep and at it's shallowest is half a metre. There is a smaller pool adjoining it but even that might be a bit too deep for a small toddler, this was up to half a metre deep.Something to consider if you are taking children.

The pool bar...

George ran the pool bar for most of the day and was always happy to serve you up a drink or snack from the menu, burgers, pizza, hot dog, salads etc.,the food was good and reasonably priced. There is a pool table and a few computers next to the bar for which you can pay to use the internet, but the hotel offers a good free wifi connection if you take your own device, just ask for the password.

The staff...

Everyone went out of their way to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, nothing was too much trouble for anyone which I think is why this hotel is so high up in the rankings for Argassi hotels. They are a 2 star hotel and don't pretend to be anything else, but they make up for it by having 5 star staff.

Argassi...

A typical Greek holiday resort with all the usual bars, restaurants, supermarkets, street sellers etc.It is fairly quiet during the day but comes alive at night. The Papillon is just up from the main crossroads but we didn't hear any noise from the street from the apartment. The road itself can be a bit tricky to get across, there is a zebra crossing but it's a total waste of paint as nobody ever stops, you just have to hope for the best.In the evening there are all the guys on the doors of the restaurants trying to persuade you to come in,which is the norm in Greece.

The beach...

The beach isn't the best by any standards,it is very narrow and in parts you will have rocks or shingle in the shallow bits, but the water is clear and good for bathing or snorkeling. There are also a selection of water sports just next to Waves beach bar,we did the sea sofa and the ringos and got 20euros knocked off.

Places to eat...

There are a very good selection of restaurants and snack bars,if anything there are too many to choose from.I would recommend Zorbas as a "must do",also Premier,Athina and Papillon were very good. For drinks in the evening we usually went to The Beer Academy which has waitress service so you can just sit down and have your drinks brought to you.It has all the big screen TV,s and 5 pool tables.

Things to do...

The water park trip to Sarakinado was well worth the money we paid (18euros adults and 14euros for children under 12),this includes a bus there and back.
Zante town is worth a visit, lots of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from and lots of history too.
There is a free bus from Argassi to St Nicholas beach which is absolutely beautiful, but our day was spoiled when a cruise ship full of drunken 18-30 yobs turned up at about 2pm.What I would have given for a rocket launcher that day but that's another story...

The local wildlife...

Hardly saw a single mosquito or wasp, however my wife was bitten once on the inside of her thigh, after that she used the repellant and was ok.We used a plug in repellant in the room and didn't see any at all.

Prices...

We ate out every night,2 adults and 2 children aged 12 and 10 and paid on average between 40 and 50 euros which included wine and soft drinks. Some of the restaurants offer free wine or half price meals for the kids to get you in the door.On average a large beer was between 2 and 2.5 euros, cocktails around 3.5 euros and spirits the same.In my opinion the spirits are watered down as it took an awful lot to even get tipsy,or do I have a drink problem?
Make sure you pack plenty of toiletries as they are very expensive in the supermarkets,5 euros for shampoo or deodorant. We learned the hard way as my wife packed all ours in the hand luggage and they were confiscated at Luton airport.Remember no liquids over 100ml in the hand luggage!

The holiday overall...

We all had a great time and would certainly go back and stay at the Papillon hotel,I have been to Greece many times and have never met a nicer group of people who all do their bit to make your stay enjoyable.I must give a special mention to the maids who all work so hard and are often forgotten. It was great to come back to the room and find it all clean with fresh sheets and towels.

A big thank you to everyone at the Papillon and we hope to see you soon.

Staying at this hotel was a pleasure from start to finish. Myself and two teenage daughters shared a two bed apartment which had all the required basics and was beautifully cleaned on a daily basis. Claire on reception was always smiling and helpful, George in the pool bar was great, in fact every one we meet was very friendly and we always felt at ease. The pool and surrounding areas are large and a great place to relax....never any need for that mad dash in the mornings to get a sunbed!! The location of the hotel was ideal right in the centre but noise was never an issue and it was great to be able to get to the beach, shops restaurants and bars within a minute or two's stroll.....my only regret is that we only booked for one week we should of had two. Thankyou Papillon we shall be back :)

This small friendly family run hotel is ideal for everyone , a big thank you to claire on reception and george who was always smiling and andre ? always happy serving at the snack bar by the pool , fabulous burgers and chips and reasonably priced at 5Euros, great milk shakes and plenty of Mythos beer, what more can a girl want. Also thank you to the owners Dimitry and her mum Marie who are very welcoming and will make your holiday special. Michael my husband also says a big thank you to Dimitry as they used to call each other different names he used to call her the male name dimitrious and she called him michaela .
As mentioned on previous post the apartments are two star , but after the staff we met and the welcome we we are already pencilled in for next year.
The apartments are very central and have security on at night so safe and secure , but not noisy ( except for me- sorry to previous postee ) lots of lovely restaurants locally and recommended from trip advisor - prices reasonable 10 euros for meal ( big portions ) some bars serve mythos from 2E . Visit the restaurant in the hills if you can lovely views
Great value!! Great food!! Great People !! Great Island !!!!
can also recommend the train into Zante town - lovely evening had. Thank you to all

If you want a welcome like you've never had before go stay at the Papillon Hotel in Argassi. You will have to go a long way to find friendlier people from Damitra and her family that owned it to Claire and George who worked for them, such lovly people.

we hired a car (speak to Claire to put you in touch for a good deal) for 11 days, the island is only small but there are some beautiful locations for you to find.
Once again we would like to thank everyone for the fantastic holiday and to Damitra for playing nurse to me even though she was on crutches herself.

We booked a last minute holiday here and were so welcomed by George and Claire and the other members of staff it felt like a home from home. The apartment was basic like people have mentioned but very spacious for a family and a real treat to have two bedrooms which gave us all a bit of breathing space! The pool was unbusy, pretty palm trees and great poolside drinks and snacks. The air conditioning was a useful additional buy at 6 euros a day and the rooms were cleaned beautifully ( we liked our "magic fairies" after a long hot day at the beach!!)_ Thankyou all for a pleasant stay but a tip for light sleepers would be earplugs at night (not for loud music or roudy people, just concrete buildings and cool marble flooring can be a bit annoying at two in the morning)Maybe I should have stayed up later and problem solved!

Room Tip: the apartments are being renovated this coming winter so that would be nice but they will always be...
